Poll: What do you like most?
How can this poll show anything, if you dont even list PvE content? Ie missions, trials, events, etc. Storyline is way more broad than something like bases, PvP etc. In fact, story line could cover any aspect of the game. I think this poll is bogus. Opinion of course.
Costumes??? Are you kidding me!!!
[ QUOTE ]
Your favorite overall game aspect may not be listed, but please, choose your favorite from the list
[/ QUOTE ]
The list is incomplete. I really can't vote for any of those.
Powers, Powersets, Builds, Leveling ... advancement, progress, unlocking new capabilites ... whatever you want to call it. To some people, like me ... that is the -content-. Its what we play for.
I'm disappointed it was overlooked.
I've run a lot of RPG's and thus have to say storyline. There are levels of detail and thought that are appreciated. Knowing how the Council overthrew the 5th Column; where the Circle of Thorns came from and why they steal bodies, and how far back in time their evil goes; the truths behind the Rikti and their connection to the Lost. All of this and more is my major reason for playing. I want to know WHY. In the cheesy words of actors everywhere, what is my motivation?

Like others, I suspect they picked the specific items for a reason. They've probably got a handful of ideas cooking and want some input on which one they emphasize, and an answer of "PvE combat" or "Levelling", while accurate, wouldn't actually tell them anything they want to know.
Othwerise I would've picked "Super Powers" hands down.
My answer would have been PVE if it had been an option.

I know you said keep it to the list, and I did vote "story", but I thought I'd just mention, my #1 feature that I love about CoX is:
Well, hard to choose, so I'm going to pick two
The SK/Exemp system.
and
The way missions scale to the group size.
[/ QUOTE ]
I did vote costume, but, I agree that the sk and exemp system is a large part of why I keep playing. No matter what level I am, I can still play with my friends. The system in the pvp zones where it sets all of the team to the same level also occasionally helps on SG practice nights when the levels are too varied to match up to just one level range.

Yeah... I'd have picked global friends/channels, the sk system... lots of other things. But, on -that- list... eh. I guess costumes.
I might have chosen the storyline (which I do happen to enjoy) if what we did in the game made more of a difference with non-contact NPCs. (I chose costumes.)
If we were remembered by the various mobs for whom we have worked, for example, it would feel more integrated.
It would be more immersive if we could earn or lose "faction points" when doing missions for the various mobs that affected the way they greeted us when we run into their members elsewhere.
If we were "in" with that particular mob, members of that mob would be friendly (or not attack on sight) and maybe even help out if we were in a jam with a rival mob.
Conversely, if we have been interfering with that mob's business (by doing missions that are targetted at them or by just killing lots of them), then we would lose faction points. Based on how negative we are with them, they'd be aggressive and go out of their way to make life difficult. Attack and then maybe follow us more doggedly if we try to run away.
This might also help engage us in the storyline(s). Someone in this thread said it's possible to get to level 50 without really knowing them; if our choices mattered more in gameplay with NPCs it might make that less of an issue.
Sorry for the inelegant sentence structure; still drinking my first cup of coffee.

I'd say that my favourite thing about this game (apart from soloability) is the freedom of character creation.
Which would simplify down to "costumes", I suppose, even though "open feel" and "open stories" also play into it.

Interesting how 10% (atm) put PvP and yet IMO that part of the game gets more than 10% of the focus.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most PvPers would disagree with you. Strongly. If PvP is such a focus, why do arena bugs (stuff from issue 4!) still exist? Also, you've missed the many threads that extol the purported fact that PvPers compose an extreme minority in this game - 1% or 2% max, and hence isn't worth any attention at all. Poll isn't done yet and I won't say that the poll is absolutely representative of the player base, but I think you can assume there's more than 1 or 2% interest in PvP.
Further, I don't like badges, but I'm not going to use the fact that it only gets 6% (atm) of the vote to say that it doesn't deserve dev time. That's a specious argument at best.
I love the costumes, so that was my choice, but I also wanted to say that my favorite group so far is the Freakshow ^_^

Quoted for hallejulah-style amen-flavored truth.
I earned a badge for beating up Hellions. That should at least gain me an extra helping of their aggro.
Sidekicking is what I like most. I hate not being able to play with my friends in other games because we are different levels.
Another thing to consider - this was a choice of favorite things. A limited one at that - probably three of four of my favorite things about this game weren't options. Thus it's difficult to draw conclusions about what low percentage votes mean. Bases are getting really poor showing, but that's just means they aren't many people's favorite thing. Not that they are unimportant or that we dislike what features they do have at this time.

...or that:
1) There are more PvPers on the forum, proportionally, than there are in the player base at large, and
2) There's a level of 'activism' going on with PvP that isn't there with the other categories. I rather doubt there are threads on other forums rallying people to "Save costumes! Make your voice heard if you care about the future of helmets in the game!" I'd be curious to see what the results of this poll question would be: "Do you think the developers should spend additional time working on PvP?"
My actual favorite part would be...well, a couple. The combat, and the sidekicking system that lets anyone join a team. And the lack of loot.

I would have picked PvE Combat if that was an option, which it should have been IMO.

Agreed.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would say that storyline is the PVE option, since you'd PVE through the story arcs.
At any rate, I voted costumes. Judging by it's lead, devs, lower icon prices so we can enjoy it more!

LOL. Activism really doesn't work with the PvP crowd. Reading forums isn't what most of them do. Frankly, I'm amazed that there's even 10% (atm).
Also completely agree with the previous poster that percentage you get in the poll doesn't mean that the feature is not well liked or worth supporting (a la bases). It could well mean that the item is liked but something is liked more or the choice you wanted wasn't there.

That's my take on it, too. Hence, my disappointment. Question is ... which way will they go with it? Direct effort to the 'popular' things, or try to fix the 'broken' things?

Oh I agree. LOL Everytime I team and we walk through the door of a mission and some ones saye "It's FREAKS" I say "Oh good I love fighting them" Usually I then have to explain that because they Rez I can get double XP for defeating the same Juicer Chief or Swiper Tank twice. Up to a certain point on, on COV anyway, they offer up the best XP per defeat and I just love the crazy outfits and enhancements they wear.
Just a note... Least favorites are COT (mainly because of those elaborate caves they hand out in that take forever to get through), Skyraiders (Porters are just a complete pain in the behind), and the Council (sort of the same reason as COT.. those bases they have in caves drive me crazy trying to find that one stupid troop that has wandered off into some corner and I can't get Mission Complete til I find him)
I do agree with some of the other comments here .. Poll needs to be expanded to be completely accurate .. and maybe even changed to a ranking system rather than JUST PICK 1. Let's say I give my first choice a 10 and last a 1, everything else gets a rating somewhere in between.. then you'd get a real feel for what people enjoy or dislike about the game

That's interesting; I'd suspect that, given the competitive nature of PvP, that PvPers would frequent forums more in order to pick up tips and tricks on how to tweak builds, defeat/use various tactics, and so forth.
I also think that the PvP crowd feels somewhat slighted and marginalized here, particularly compared to "badge-hunters" or "costume fans" and thus they'd use this poll as a way to make their voice heard... even if they like "costumes" the most in CoX currently.
Perhaps I'm wrong... but I'm with you, I'm surprised about the 10% number, because I really don't think that 10% of the playerbase overall really focuses on the PvP gameplay compared to the other items listed.
You ask these questions? This is why you lose members: Right from the start youre asking the wrong questions.
I play a super hero game to feel super.
When changes like suppression, the GDN, and ED happen I got angry.
I'll go down the list for you:
-Costume Creator:
It's impressive compared to other games, but I still can't make my main like I want to. Why is this? No cat heads. Think of Tigris from The Batman TAS episode Tyger, Tyger. Monster heads don't cut it nor does the Standard Feline head.
-The Storyline:
What story line? When I actually take the time to read the clues the stories are interesting and a few of them are really cool. They don't keep me around though, if I want a story I'll read a book.
PVP:
My main character is a claws/SR. Claws doesn't damage quick enough compared to other damage dealers and SR doesn't mitigate very well with all the buffs out there. It's not high on my list.
Badges:
Are annoying.
Bases:
They're cool, but not why I started to play and they aren't why I stay. Also, they're too expensive. After a year of playing with bases I'd like to have the starting plot filled up with rooms and equipment/decorations.
Specific mob groups:
I'm indifferent.
--------------------------------------------------------
I like feeling super so add XP for doing super things.
That's what you want right?: something for the work force to focus on.
Add xp for saving others, heroes and civilians via healing or assisting with kills. Add xp for just hitting or holding villains. Add Hami's to drops fighting anyone.
Make it easier to be super. And stop balancing the game around defenders. They suck because balancing around them broke the game for any team without them (or controllers).
This is what you did right:
-issue 3/issue 4 scrappers and tanks.
-permanent elude, unstoppable, PP version of MoG
-containment
-Criticals
-Controllers (mostly...the AoE hold nerf was too harsh)
-Fury
-Peacebringers (they still need hold/disorient/sleep protection though)
-Masterminds
-the PVE combat
-the setting (the city is awesome)
-the amount of superpowers
-flight (I wouldnt mind if fly, hover, and Gfly were faster speeds however)
-the enemies (Ritki, Crey, Knives, Malta, Hellions etc. = awesome
-the concept of villain vs hero pvp
-the concept of teaming for better xp and drops
-the concept of blasters: they need to do more damage though. (they need as much hold protection as scrappers...so they need to be able to one shot, hold, or status any enemy that can hold)
-the stalker concept
-brutes are just about right
-that lack of stuff to collect (little collecting is a good thing)
-costume creator (even if it's lacking)
-control set up
-the usefulness of hasten and stamina....bring other pool powers up to their level
-pre-GDN defense and resistance (give weave some use for example again...pool power defense is a joke)
-issue 3 stealth
-stealthing missions, yes it was a good thing to be capable of completing missions without having to kill anyone
-holiday jet pack
-the mission exit button (the first couple mission I didn't know I could click on the mission complete text to exit...because I didn't read the instructions because this is a video game...add a voice over instruction in the tutorial)
-all the interface options
-blinking power icons when click duration powers are about to stop working
The greatest thing in this game is Flight!!
Out of the options the best thing is the costume creator which needs the least work.
The options I'd like to see worked on, that I like are: pvp and bases. PVP needs more protracted battles (getting 2 shotted, say by a stalker sucks...as a scapper (as a controller I can deal with that since they're squishy) and bases need more functionality for less cost (sort of like the JLU's super laser)...IOP's need to be droped and craftable items can be made to use in missions like a proactive periment buff as opposed to the reactive buff from the rezing chamber (great idea btw)...and the basic teleporter needs to be the only type of teleporter, which can teleport to any zone with the sg exploration badges (without having to place a beacon)...
Thats all I have right now
Global Chat: @Prime Knight

Panthera Knight - Claws/SR/BM scrapper 50!!
Prime Knight - Mind/Kin/Psi controller 50!!

Im willing to bet these poll numbers would be different about 6-8 months ago. A lot of ppl jumped ship when they were dissapointed that all the devs seemed to concentrate on was costumes, and badges, when things like PvP, and Bases, needed serious attention. Bases and PvP were after all, a major selling point for CoV, and its failed miserably.
As far as pvpers go, some check the boards, most probably dont. As far as tips and tricks, you wont see many of value on the blue boards. why? because people dont give up their secrets, or experience that easily. Its a competative envirnment to some degree. It takes many a butt whoopin to get good and learn pvp. Serious pvpers know that. They arent going to hand their skills and experience on a silver platter so others dont have to put the hard work in themselves.
[ QUOTE ]
So 77.3% of people that didn't go vote for costumes, badges or bases obviously prefer to play PvE over PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think that's one conclusion, but another one is that they've very disappointed in the PvP implementation here. They love PvP, but for this game they don't think it was done well so they voted for, oh, Costumes instead.
While I don't think PvP would ever be "what I like most", PvP and bases would rate far higher with me had the developers handled them differently.
