    Excellent Arcs

This is a well written arc that was lots of fun to play. You work for your contact to eliminate a League of Heroes. It had really nice customs and I loved the clues you got for each defeat.

If your are looking for a fun arc to play as a villain, especially with a team, this arc is a good choice. Thanks to Liz Bathory for recommending it.
Glad you liked it. There is a sequel, Vengeance of a League, hosted on my inactive alt account (I forget the # but DoaL has it in its description). Takes place a few years later and shows that murdering a bunch of superheroes is never as simple as it seems.

    MADoorInvalid?

Ok, nevermind. Did a later search and found the suggestion that it was caused by certain bosses, guessed that it was Paladin in mission #4, and it works fine with him gone. Just write it up for a big report I suppose.

    MADoorInvalid?

So I spent the last day or so making a new arc, which I haven't done in a few years. Finish it up, publish it...and I can't play it. Every time I click on the entrance, it immediately ends the arc (with the ratings popup) and gives me a 'MADoorInvalid' error. There's no errors in the arc itself, and I can play it to test just fine...

Is it a matter of the server not really 'publishing' it yet and I need to wait, or is there something else? It's #433313 if someone else wants to give it a try.
  4. Yea, I find it pretty ridiculous that an arc with a 5.0 rating and 1 play through outranks an arc with a 4.9 and 200 plays. The arc with 1 play is obviously not the one I'd be more likely to want to play.

If they can do it, then why can't I?

[/ QUOTE ]Precedence is not justification.

[/ QUOTE ]That's not an answer.

[/ QUOTE ]Um, yes it is. Just because someone else can do something does not mean you can.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It also doesn't mean you can't!

    Ah-HA!

I wouldn't mind hosting a story arc of yours if you need some more room. Although you could ask to get pohsyb to Dev Choice your arcs since he likes them so much.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only 1 dev choice per account now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To me, this represents a simply bizarre policy because it hurts the best writers among us. I really enjoy playing the dev choice arcs because they're the best the mission architect has to offer, those are the people who should be encouraged to make more and more arcs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Given there's probably 100,000 arcs now, it's a good rule to force the devs to not just look at arcs by the same guys they already have recognized.

    Oh good, an official discussion.

Can someone please reassure me that this is not going to become the only way to play and update City of Heroes?

    DITTO

This is the first I'd heard of it, just skimming the forum, but I have to say:

I DESPISE STEAM and VALVE! Valve has cheated me out of money time and again, Steam has abused my machine and stolen both my money and great scads of my time. If NCSoft must deal with Valve please, please, please!!! do not ever force Steam on existing customers!

We haven't stolen from you. Far from it! We happily pay a monthly rate to play this game that is higher than most of your competitors; clearly we all want to support your continued success. But some of us have issues with Steam, and forcing it on us as a condition of continued service would be a backhanded way of rewarding our loyalty.

Apologies if this matter has already been addressed, but I'm downright neurotic after the rapings received from Valve already.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just to play counter-balance to this post, Steam is the greatest thing since electronically sliced bread. For the past 2 years virtually every game I've bought has been through Steam, often at very, very good deals. I've been saying for at least a year now that CoX needs to sell on Steam and am very excited to see it's finally happened. Due to this I'll be buying the i14 pack tonight rather than a month from now when my current time ends. I used to dislike the concept of Steam before I actually used it, but ever since I've been hooked I've considered it the future of PC gaming.

And to address the other point, Steam isn't going to be required because of this.

    A "Seattle based" charity?

I think it bears mentioning that this is spear-headed by the guys who make the gaming webcomic Penny-arcade. Just to be all specific and stuff =)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yea, is it an attempt to avoid making it look like Penny-Arcade advertising? Cause it's not like there aren't already a lot of PA fans here.

    Ebay Heroes

I remember IGE used to sell CoX inf, and a few accounts, I'd check it out now and then just out of curiousity of the current prices, last time I looked they weren't selling anything CoX-related anymore.
  10. I wouldn't mind making our base public for certain times to show it off, but all the time? I can't imagine this ending any way other than me finding random people cybering in there while I'm trying to make IOs.

    Maybe it's just me.
  11. Huh, guess I never got around to posting this here.

    Guide to Power's Allegory/Affliction bases

The Affliction one has more prestige, and I'm generally happier with it's look, though I'm proud of Allegory's hanger bay.
  12. CoX moves in real time.

CoX history is placed "on top of" real history, while things happened differently I can't think of any real world figures that have been said to not exist in it. Though it's rare if ever that they actually use the names of real people.
  13. Those maps were always in, but you didn't see them til 20+. I think Positron's TF had the first lab map you would see, and the first Oranbegan map was from a 25-30 contact; she actually makes a big deal about you discovering the city.

And then the Hollows came out and there were Oranbegan maps at like level 10.

What is the devs problem with people being able to easily transfer inf between toons? Why must I be forced to return to the days of poverty just to put toons on a different server, or play the other side. That is the major reason I dont play Villains or on other servers much, I hate being poor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't get it. I have never had any issues with any of my toons when it came to finances. There is really no such thing as poor in this game. Just various versions well off. And I never left SG mode except after I hit 50 to build funds for others so they didn't feel like SG mode was a burden. (If you have ever seen the numbers on how much more infamy a 50 gets over a 34, it would make your jaw drop)

    [/ QUOTE ]

2 reasons: Characters don't become self-sufficient until the low 30s, if you want full DO/SOs before then you need extra inf. Second, SG mode does have an effect. I have several 30-50 characters who have never left SG mode, and it's doable, but only if you can live with having lots of yellow enhs most of the time. Being able to transfer inf from my pre-SG Mode characters would be a big help.
  15. Yea, if the market gets flooded, people will just get in the habit of doing test buys at 100 inf, 1k inf, 10k, etc, before they get into serious bids.

Actually it doesn't matter if it can be seen or not, the odds of someone being able to find the enhancement/salvage needed to match your within the ~3 minutes it'll take to do a transfer, especially if done off-peak hours after I9's lost its shinyness, is virtually zero. Which is pretty much the same odds as someone just by random coincidence putting up the item you offered a buy order for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The people in another thread who have detailed out how to likely intercept transfers would use one of two solutions. Either they only look for listings of odd TOs that they alreayd have in their inventory. It only takes a moment to look and, if they see a listing for a lvl 3 Flight TO, and already happen to have such in their inventory, then it only takes a few moments to list their own to try to intercept. That's the key. They are not seeing what you have listed and then going looking for the match, they are watching for you to list what they already have.

The other option, assuming that you have not listed the odd-ball TO for a very high price, is for them to simply buy it themselves and relist it, waiting for the large transfer to hit them instead of the alt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You only got 10 holding slots, the odds of having anything are about none (thousands of possibilities remember).

And the other option...uh, what? All that accomplishes is doing the transfer for them, with the risk that they might notice and never bother buying it from you since they already got their cash.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Ah yes, same idea, just shaves off maybe a minute or so of possible interception time. And the odds of an interceptor seeing it and having the item needed and getting in in there in any method before you've switched is almost null as it is.

Hell, if you have a friend and are really paranoid (but trust the friend, anyways), they could buy it within seconds of it going up and then face-to-face it later.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah but your assuming that you can see a buy request. If you can't or if a buy request can be hidden...

So basically all I have to do is put up every TO I get at the AH for 1 inf and hope someone uses the same one for a character trade and I get instant millions?

Anyone else see a problem here or am I misunderstanding this?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope, youve got it nailed XD

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why would anyone be trying to transfer influence this way? The system has an excellently designed way to do so that avoids this problem completely.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because we can check what's being offered for sale before we put up an item to transfer with, and you'd have to be an idiot to try transfering with an enh/salvage type already for sale.

Actually, I'm not clear on whether or not, if you set it at 1 inf and I'm willing to pay 5 mil, if you get just the 1 you asked for or the 5 mil I offered.
  22. Additional question: Can heroes and villains trade with each other? If I can trade some of my massive hero bank to my poor villains (who were all made after the introduction of SG mode, of course), that's an even bigger deal than cross-server.
  23. My actual favorite part would be...well, a couple. The combat, and the sidekicking system that lets anyone join a team. And the lack of loot.
  24. The buffs suck so much that I (the main architect for our SGs) refuse to even put the buff stations in our bases. As much of a salvage stockpile as we may have, I don't see the buffs as anything but a complete waste.

I can just imagine the horror of checking up one day and finding out our salvage has been eaten up by someone who really liked that 2.5% run buff.
