Poll: What do you like most?
I answered storylines, but have the following thoughts:
1) Costumes are window dressing - I love that they look good, love the new wings and such, but would hate this game if it was just eye candy.
2) We need stories to involve you more. The best one I can think of is really the hollows story, where you find the policeman's brother and save him from the COT. This level of detail seems missing in the higher level missions.
What would be great, would be to have very long progressions through a villain group (like COT) where you hear the name of a villain long before you fight the AV. Seems like most AVs were found, beaten, then you find out who they are. Should be you hear all about them as you do missions, getting you closer and closer till finally you fight the big dog.
One way of doing that is to start adding COv villains into the COH missions. But, a lot of it is to start a story line at, say, level 4, and not have it finish until level 40, all the while dropping the names of the AVs you are are going to fight.
3) PVP is way off in balance, IMO. Only 3-4 powersets really good for PVP, should be better than that if its to be a big feature.
4) Need to make some type of end game stuff for level 50's. Mine just gather dust, and occasional play during holiday stuff.
5) One thing missing, is gameplay. EQ made you constantly wait to recover health or mana, while COx lets you go. Much more fun. Battles tend to be more frantic and faster paced which is lots of fun. Fast feeling travel powers are also lots of fun. All in all, I think gameplay is likely the biggest reason combo with storyline to keep playing coX.
Just a not on villain groups: While no ONE villain group qualifies as the coolest thing around, the fact that they have so much IDENTITY is very imporant. It really matters if you are fighting Nemesis or Devouring Earth. Banished Pantheon are nothing like Circle of Thorns at the same levels. Etc.
It is not like you fight fish men throughout your career, only growing slightly larger and changing color over the levels.
not a big fan of the storyline only because the presentation is lackluster.
The main draw of this game for me is the freedom we have to create such a wide range of characters - both in concept/theme and in actual builds and abilities. The action based and (mostly) fast moving pve combat is a close second.
Of the items on the list, I went with Costumes as that's the basically a contributing factor to the main draw (certainly the closest match from the options on the poll).
More costumes!!
But more variation on storylines....I think the 'protect the obliesk" from the Croatoa story arc was a great mission, as opposed to the prevent the 30 Fir Blog from going through the portal.......that one was horrible.
More giant monsters!!!
"I'm not scared of anyone or anything Angie. Isn't that the way life should be?"
Jack Hawksmoor, The Authority.
not a fan of the storyline cause its the SAME story line since p.i, was made(high lvl content that is)
Costumes and storyline seem to have the support they need, anyway, so I put my vote in for the underdog.
Go PvP.
I love Bases and the Storyline. Stories area big reason why I'm vocal about Flashback .. to get the story I missed. ..>HINT HINT<
Bases have so much potential to drive the story it's amazing. I could write a book on it and if I wasn't at work and a slow typist I'd explain it. All good heroes and villains have some sort of place to form thier plans!
The PVE aspect of the game is great but I do think some powers need a little looking at on use ability and interection with the environment. Ice putting out fires, KB moving an oncoming car, electric to keep that base generator up a little longer to win that objective. Less Tank/Mage AVs HP grinds and more Comic Culture. In old school D&D you are awarded be defeating Mobs not just by bringing HPs to zero! Think out of the cube

* Sidus Loricatus: B-NRG2, S-BS/Reg, T-Fire/Ice, MM-Bots/FF, St-NRG2, Dom-Psi/NRG, Cor-Son/Traps, Cor-Ice/Kin, Ctrl-Fire/Kin, PB-LB/LA
* Arachnos Loricatus: Soldier, Widow
* Praetoria Loricatus: B-DP/Dev, Cor-Elec/Elec
PvP. CoX has best engine on market and if PvP was addressed (like balance issues and an easy to play interface) it would be a ton of fun.
I am PL in RL.
Freedom- Magnet Man, Hott Sauce, Stand-Up Comic
PvP...obviously. There is no storyline and since CoH has been out for this long with what they deem a storyline why bother fixing it up now? Its basically tacking on PvP and then forgetting about it. How about instead of fixing a problem thats non-existent to begin with lets get a little love in other places.
Can't think I have ever payed attention to the storyline other than lvls 1-10 then again at 40-50. The whole center is BOOOORING.
PvP is the obvious choice due to the outcry for the devs to pay the hell attention...bet 12 Nukes they still dont.
EDIT: Also of which if anyone does read this tell Cricket to read/respond to my message.
I'm drawn to the game largely due to the costume creator...for the most part, thats a must-have.
PvP could have gotten the nod if it had more balance forwarded to it.
Devs, thanks so much for making a poll. I really think it's an easy and good way to get feedback--and limiting the choices keeps things on topic by focusing people on the stuff you're listing. To toss in my two bits, the thing among those listed that I like best is the costume system.
Having said that, I have to agree with Protea that it isn't really clear what question you intended to ask. I'm guessing that the question is:
Among those things listed, what do you think works well as implemented?
That's important. It's good to figure out what works, and makes people happy. But that's gonna get a very different set of answers from:
Among those things listed, what would you most like to see have its implementation improved?
which is clearly how some people are interpreting the poll. And, in fairness, that second question is perhaps a more valuable question to consider if the goal is to figure out what people want in future updates.
"CoV comes with base raiding"
False advertising.
I voted PvP.
The costumes are a good way not to get bored, but i picked pvp. It just doesn't seem like a real hero/ villain game if you can't actually fight a real villain while you're a hero.
Another thing would be the travel powers. You look at other games with near identical characters running around at 2 mph swinging a sword, no comparison. Need to be more powersets to choose from, and powerset balance in pvp so we don't keep seeing the same thing, but still looks better than other games.
With a hero game, the sky is really the limit. There's NOTHING you can't do, no storyline you can't incorporate. If it's not neglected it'll always get better.
One thing to be careful of, people playing a super hero/villain game don't like limits and restrictions.
I don't know if someone already told this as I was not able to read the entire post since it's so long. I've noticed there's something missing in the poll choices:
POWERS
It's because I'd like to feel like a superhero that I like this game. The chance to get cool powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men and women
Here's a simple math for this:
Costumes - Powers = Haloween Trick or Treat
Storyline - Powers = The Jason Bourne or James Bond novels
PVP - Powers = CounterStrike
Interaction - Powers = The Sims Online
I could go on but I think the point is clear. Not that the above isn't very good mind you. But I'm playing a game about superheroes so I want to see something superheroic.
So my main reason for playing the game is to show some kickass powers (Costume BTW is my second choice)
Story is what kept me in the game for a long time, but many alts to 50 meant I've run the story arcs several times.
PvP is what keeps me playing between new arcs.
CoX, hands-down, without a doubt the bast chargen of any MMO I've ever played.
I remember in beta, a lot of people (myself included) thought it would be great to package the chargen separately in an off-line version and stick them in gaming magazines for promotion. I still think its a great idea, but was told that it wasn't possible because the chargen was "baked" into the game code.
Bummer.

I can't choose them all? I love the costume editor. That is what hooked me orginally. I love the storylines (for the most part) and getting souvenirs with the storylines. I love the bases and the base editor function (like playing the sims but a whole lot cooler). The villians are great too, some you just feel sorry for, some you learn to hate, and some are just idiots, I love it. This is the best game ever.

Yeah those were my thoughts. Although Id add in a big SHOUT OUT to PvP. PvP was my first choice, but wanted to second that I love and have given a solid try to nearly all the villain content, and alot of hero content in this game. Long term subscriber here.
PvP
I went for storyline. The background and current story content available has some really great stuff in it. That said, we need more. I feel that updates should be at least once per quarter and should always advance the storylines. More contacts COV-side and unlockables COH-side.
I'm interested that PvP has such a high percentage of the vote compared to what I see in the in-game population. This can be explained by the fact that to be viable in PvP usually means reading guides and therefore the forum. I only wish more of the game population used the forums.
I'd also like to be able to vote for PvP too, but I can't. Until the majority of PvE builds are capable of winning some PvP fights the bar is set too high for entry.
You could change this by making the PvE mobs fight more like PvP players and encouraging 'PvP' power choices. Alternatively, the PvP experience needs to change such that the 'arms race' of FOTMs can be reduced. Good luck with that one.
Pinnacle - Atlantean L33 Eng/Eng Blaster, Aeonian L25 Rad/Dar Defender, Darksaw L38 Kat/Da Scrapper, Purple Dynamite L25 Inv/Eng Tanker
Freedom - Volcanic Force L50 Fire/FF Controller, Violent Force L30 Fire/Psi Dominator, Tabubua L24 Claw/Regen Stalker
Victory - Calistus L26 SS/EA Brute
If only I could have picked storyline AND bases. It seems bases needed support, and every hero group needs a mansion, or a tower, or a fortress or a.....

Making money, not earning it.
PVP is the only thing keeping me here now
The main thing that made this game so great is the fact that you can keep fighting instead of attacking one thing then waiting. Less boredom is generated. Also of course the huge amount of variation in costumes and powers, makes a team a new one everytime.
