Poll: What do you like most?

I would have picked PvE Combat if that was an option, which it should have been IMO.

First thing I thought as well. How fun the PvE combat is always first consideration to me. It is why I quit EQ within the first month it was released. "You go up and hit autoattack and then just watch to see what happens, this is interesting how?"

So, I choose specific mob groups, guess that is kind of close as they each have different combat strategies. I very much enjoy seeing new enemies and learning both how to best combat them and about their history.

Hi gang,

I just wanted to comment that this isn't a scientific foray into poll making Cricket and I have been talking more about doing more regular Forum Polls and we put this one together to see how things would go over.

Looks like it started up some good conversation. I'm sure we will be doing more polls in the future!

Ah, OK. I was just a bit confused because some of the items, such as PvP, are fairly broad and applicable to many MMOs, whereas items such as "Bases" are pretty specific to CoX. I'm wondering if that's skewing numbers here to a degree. "I love the idea of Bases" vs. "I love how you guys have done Bases", for example. I think you're asking the latter question, but it sounds like some people are answering the former question.

And yeah, it's best not to get people's hopes up with polls. "We said we loved costumes. Why haven't you cloned Jay yet? I pay my $15 a month..." Etc., ad nauseam. Not knocking this, it's interesting, I'm just glad you clarified the thinking behind it.

Well, since Powersets is for some unknown reason not a choice (and really, this game can't exist without them), I'll have to go for my #2 choice, Costume Creation. It's given me hours of fun, I have several servers besides my home of Virtue, filled with redesigns and mad designs and comedy designs for characters, most of whom I'll never get to double figures, but loved creating for the hell of it.

My #3 choice would be the overall storyline - I play through just about all content with all my characters, which I think puts paid to the argument that if one char can do all the content, no one will do it again with a new char or have the impetus to - utter nonsense.

But my sadly missing #1 choice, Powersets, is something on my mind constantly. How I wish we could see more included in the game - Scrappers and Tankers have had nothing for the entire span of City of Heroes besides the Critical Strikes inherant which is more of a perk than a feature.

Both sets desperately need new secondaries and Scrappers especially could do with more primaries - Quarterstaff would be very gratefully received

The storyline for me. I like the feeling that my charecter is part of an epic story.

I like the story lines but I didn’t vote for them.

To me there was a huge difference between the way “story lines” were implemented in CoH and CoV.

In CoH the stories were there and through missions you’d learn about the history, stop the bad guys, etc, but when playing the game I felt like I was in *my* character's story. It was the CoH universe and there were big Hero groups like Freedom Corps or the Freedom Phalanx but I was going though *my* story. Sometimes interacting with them, sometimes not. I enjoyed learning the CoH lore, about the CoH universe, and about all the stories embedded in both the story arcs and the other missions.

In CoV, I really felt like I was along for a ride on a railroad doing Lord Recluse’s story. To me, it didn’t feel like my characters were in their own story, it felt like they were a footnote or a foot soldier in the Arachnos and the Lord R. vs the Statesman stories. That difference in flavor between the two really resulted in me enjoying the “style” and the stories of CoV a lot less then the style of CoH.

I think this is a great idea Lighthouse. I've said a number of times in the past that I think some more polls or surveys would be a valueable tool for the developers. Especially given the new "give the players what they want" mantra. While forum threads and posts are of course a little more in depth in terms of feedback, polls and surveys can give you folks some quick quantative data to work with.

I might suggest that you put a notice in the updater about whatever the current polls might be, so players who dont regularly visit the forums get a chance to make their voices heard as well.

I think what CoV needs is a few contacts whose story is that they work for you, rather than the other way around.

CoV kept the old 'go and do missions FOR Contact X' model from CoH. But I'd have liked to see contacts who you get passed on to because they can help you, not the other way around.

For example, you could have a contact who's a filthy little Rogue Isles urchin, who calls you 'boss' and tells you where to find other NPC villains' lairs to raid. Or a contact who's a technical genius, and so helps you raid Crey labs or Longbow stations for tech that he then grants back to you as temp powers.

CoV seems to have very little in the way of contacts who look up to you and who send you out on forays for your personal gain, and a lot in the way of contacts for whom you are working to pay the bills.

My two favorite aspects of the game, PvE gameplay and powersets, aren't listed. Of the options that are listed, three of them are pretty much neck-and-neck: costumes, storyline, and specific mob groups (for me, Freakshow).

I ended up voting for the storylines. Costume customization, while very cool, is ultimtely window dressing. While I like the Freakshow, they are, overall, a fairly small portion of the game. And, while the storylines aren't always as up-front and well-developed as I'd like, when they are good, they're truly impressive, and can have quite a bit of impact.

ZOMG! The story line is the same thing every time you run a toon to 50, and do you spend more time playing the game, or tweaking a costume???

Bah, this poll is weak!!!

That's hard... my first and true love will always be the charater generator. The combinations of costumes and power combinations leaves so much for one to play with.
I also dabble in PVP.

Bases are like cell phones. I never knew I needed one till I had one. I never knew how great it was till I forgot it (or in the case of bases, it disappeared for 1.5 months)

I can see why bases aren't a favorite... they just sit there most of the time and the one "really cool" feature seems destined to never work (CoP) but the utility of it can't be matched.

Costume and base design are my favorites. I love the fact that enough badges will give you additional powers. I went to a PvP zone once and the lag was so bad I couldn't see or do anything, but now that I'm 50 and fear no debt I will probably go back. The storyline is OK, but it gets a little tiresome after the second time. I like all the mobs fine, no favorites.

Of the options listed, I chose Costumes. I would have liked to choose Storylines, but I'd like to feel like I really made a difference, and as they are now, I don't. I can run the same missions over and over without end. Nothing permanent happens. Dreaming here, I know, but it would be nice to feel like something I did in the game really effected/changed something.

This gentle-person speaks my mind exactly. I voted for costumes at this point...but would REALLY like it to be the story line / immersion factor. Right now, the 'story' is there...but it's missing something. Some have said how hard / difficult it is to follow the story with it hidden in menus...and really only the mission owner has a modicum of a clue of what goes on when we're doing a mission.

And of course...you add to that the repetitive tile sets and glowie clicking...and it really just seems like we're tossing our characters into warehouse after warehouse to click the same cube-glowie.

Not complaining...just sort of wishing the game could grow in a more story-immersion (with new arcs and stories) way.

My pet peeve with how the storyline is implemented...

Voted for badges because they always give me something to look for in my downtime!

Costumes are a really close second....and the storylines are GREAT at the upper levels.

I had to go with Costumes from the choices listed. The base storylines are interesting... but I really enjoy roleplaying and writeing my own as I play. As others have expressed the Storylines have limits especially Heroes side. On Villians side some of my friends and I have taken all the same missions and contacts and share them so we only do them once. It is much easier to get the story and still group that way! Plus we add our own little twists.

PvP is not my personal favorite aspect of the game and though I go there it is usually more for the badges, and temp powers. Though if I am there for that I am also looking out for a fight. After all I can get badges for that too!

Speaking of that, badges would have to come as a close second in the options listed for me. I can always set myself a goal with them, and they make nice milestones.

Bases... I really wish I could say I was happier with the way bases work. Perhaps if you could actually put a phone on the table instead of having to put it on the floor? Let some of the objects overlay each other and then I might be more interested.

I really do like the villian groups. I don't really have a favorite one. Many of them are nicely done in different ways. And they all seem to fit with the overall story.

So why did I chose costumes? Because that is where I really have the most control and the most choice. It is where I can show off my creativity. Is it perfect? No I don't think it ever will be. But can you have too many clothes?!?

Hooray for this. Even if this poll COULD be more extensive, I think polls do allow some of us lurkers that don't post much to still put in an opinion about various things.

Story line by far, everything else is just tertiary, and eventually traces it's roots back to a solid storyline. My 2 inf.

I replied Costumes, but it was a real war between Costumes and Storylines.

What really holds me to the City of games, besides having friends and loved ones that play is that I really love playing a hero. Playing a villain in CoV is also fun, but no where near as fun as being that amazing fellow who helps people because he CAN rather than doing some self-serving thing with his powers.

After that comes the Storylines and the Costumes. Or the Costumes and the storylines. Being able to be so personal with selecting from a large list to customize how my character looks for others to see just rocks!

Sure, someone else could look at me and build the same exact thing if he intended to do so. And people can look nearly like me without too much trouble with some of my costumes. But that character is MINE once I do the costume(s). More so than my characters in any other MMO.

In other MMOs if I am getting the most efficient equipment for my character at my level and class/job/arctype to make my character work the best, I am HIGHLY likely to look JUST like a number of other characters in the game that have the same race, class and level.

The Costumes in City of make me unique! Or nearly so.

Now, if we could just be as custom on our power FX for our powers, that would make even less chance of someone else seeming to be the same as me and make me even more unique.

In the world of MMOs, being unique is IMPORTANT! That Identity in name and appearance and powers means the world!

I'm not sure what the point of doing that is, to be honest.

Somehow I don't think this poll really matters in the long run. It's like the random polls I see on Slashdot. In that case, why bother padding? (Not a rhetorical question.)

Not just that, but if your trying to pad the vote to any one topic, Lighthouse and Cricket are NCSoft folks, not Cryptic folks. There doesn't seem to be much point to padding anything.
