  1. Greetings, folks.
This is to be my last post on the CoH forums as they will go away when the game does.
I am active on the City of Heroes - Guardian group on facebook and on Save City of Heroes and Boycott NCSoft groups. So I know I won't immediately lose contact with those of you I have befriended in the 8 some years of playing the game.

Thrillseeker will be the toon I will be on when the lights go out. Thrillseeker was my first level 50. My toon that I started on Aug 31st, 2012, Heartbroken One, will hit 50 tonight during play. He is a scrapper and is the last of the heroic archtypes for me to get to level 50. I have one of every other Heroic AT at level 50.

Thank you for the iTrials, the Hami Raids, the Mothership Raids and all the other things that we have done together.

Take care, and I expect to see you all on whatever rises up out of the ashes of our beloved game. I know there will be something. While I wait I will meander about the other MMOs, alighting here and there as I did before CoH came along. None of them will be home like CoH has been. I will be in SWTOR, Rift, TSW, CO, STO, DCUO and the upcoming Marvel Heroes and so many others. I will NOT be on ANY NCSoft title.... never again.

This is Karl 'Thrillseeker' Maurer, signing off from the forums. If you want to contact me, please do so on Facebook. Thanks.
  2. I ran Heartbroken One on Guardian from level 1-37 or so completely in Praetoria, avoiding going to Primal Earth, and in First Ward I had exactly the issues you describe. And it would eventually 'fix' itself as I went through story arcs, then, if I visited Pocket D for some reason and went back to First Ward, it was back to 'broken' again.

I don't think the code is working right for those toons that don't 'move on' to Primal Earth and establish them in one of the four alignments there. Being Loyalist or Resistance at the First Ward and Night Ward levels seems to confuse things.

Finally, at level 37, I couldn't get anything more other than the various repeatable contacts (my toon in question was a Loyalist who had joined the resistance as a mole long back and then went Loyalist before he reached level 10 and stayed Loyalist ('hero' branch) from then on, reporting to Scott or Marchland as needed) any more. And I really want to get him to 50, so I went to Primal Eatch at last, went 'True Hero' and am working my way. He was created Aug 31st, 2012 BECAUSE of the coming sunset. His name speaks of my real feelings about this end of the game.

  4. Wether it is with the rest of you or not, I (as Yellow Paragon) and the rest of the Paragons-of-Victory will be doing this that Thursday night on Victory. We may hit level 50 during our session tonight doing other missions... but that won't stop us from doing the TF NEXT Thursday. Sounds like fun!

    Not Goodbye

There's still a spot where one can pull a trick in Talos and end up inside the OLD Arena waiting room. Way under ground. And if you have Teleport Ally you can bring friends there.

I have one of my alts that is 'stationed' there, currently.

And you can still see NPCs walking through walls in the Portal Corporation... but then they deal with dimensional physics, so maybe that's intentional.

    I wasn't aware of this.

I'll try to get a message to the folks who can, at least, restart the server.

Unfortunately if it's a client bug, it won't be addressed.
I am currently only seeing 'QUEUED ON BETA SERVER, 19 OF 23'

I'm going to keep trying daily to play there as there are story arcs I still haven't tested, powers I haven't tried that are/were coming.... some of it I didn't want to play on beta because I wanted to wait until it went live and play them with my regular group. But in case they don't make it to live, I want to play them on beta. I hope you can get through to someone on Tuesday to give the server a kick. Thanks for trying!
  7. I will admit that I am still in the 'incredibly sad' phase where crying can break out. Mostly because hearing CoH is shutting down in 3 months comes across the same as hearing a family member has been given 90 days to live.

All of you, on the forums, in the game, devs, QA, Community Reps, you have all become a part of my family along with the game for this past decade. So, yes, this is grief I am going through, so I am not surprised by the crying. And also because CoH was on another High Point, another sweep upwards in interest.

I'm not afraid of the tears or admitting to them...
  8. Thank you for your stories, Doc. I've enjoyed them.
  9. I can be found, after Nov 30th, 2012, on The Secret World and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Alas, neither of those games have global chat channels or global handles to use to keep in touch regardless what character one is on.

I played Champions Online and DC Universe Online for a time but kept with COH because it was the better MMO. CO and DCUO are very, very good MAMO's (Massive Action Multiplayer Online) games. They are also good super hero games. Both have grown well over their lifetime so far. The Perfect World International is unlikely to pull the plug on CO for at least a year or two. ESPECIALLY with COH going away. SOE rarely kills off a game unless the cost of the IP outweighs the income (Matrix) or they lose the IP (Star Wars Galaxies). You want an example: Vanguard. I think the fact they Own the IP means their costs are low. So as long as Warner and SOE are getting along and Warner doesn't decide to up the cost of the IP or stop footing part of the bill, SOE will keep it going. Especially due to the Console side being so unique.

COH moving out of the picture may or may not change the equation. I know, for me, it will be back to MMO of the year and moving around from one to another again. Only COH held my attention during it's whole existance. No other MMO has done that.
  10. Personally, due to the way NCSoft pulled the rug out from under Paragon Studios like this, I, for one, will never play an NCSoft product again. (Well, 'never' is a strong word. Let's just say it would take major new management, rehiring many of the Paragon Studios folks in other parts of the company -- or at least OFFERING them a place elsewhere, etc...)

I -was- interested in some of the other games in the NCSoft stable, especially GW2 and Wildstar (or whatever it is called).... but now... they ain't getting any more of my money if I realize that money is going to NCSoft.
  11. Echo'd. CoH has been a gathering point, a focus, proof that not all of MMO communities are troll-laden realms where one treads with care and only if you MUST find out something. Only with CoH has there been someplace where communication amongst the players and the devs, with rare exceptions, have been anything other than positive.

Paragon Studios and the City of Heroes product has been an example of how MMOs should be run and communicated to it's players. It grew into a family.

For myself, City of Heroes has been a solid base on which to stand to get away from the stress and difficulties of mundane life. No other MMO (or even other non-massive, non-multiplayer games) has held on to my attention. I've been playing CoH from before day one launch. My wife started playing a year after I did, and still plays to this day. We're regulars on Guardian, Protector and Victory. We've been at home on Pinnacle and Champion. I suffer from alt-itius so she got to 50 before I did. I almost thought the wedding pack was perfect as it was announced shortly after I proposed to her.

I've made friends I would NEVER have met due to CoH. And no one I have met in this game has ever become my enemy/stalker/pest.

No other MMO (and I have played most that came on the scene before COH, from UO and EQ to DAoC and more - And the ones that have come after) has held my attention (not even others by Cryptic) for the number of years COH has. And it is going to be hard to find another.... I gave up Broadcast Television for COH. I don't want to go back.

Thanks for all the years. Thanks for the friends, the entertainment, the laughter, the tears (yes, I felt it when Miss Liberty and Statesman died....), the frustration when team mates say 'I was only looking!' as their healthbar goes red. Thank you. I'll be online when the plug is pulled on the servers... they have to pry the game out of my hands before I will turn my back on it.

    Thank you, Paragon Studios.

    Dear NCSoft...

Agreed. I was interested in some of the upcoming NCSoft work. Not any more.
  13. Freitag, just keep up the good work wherever you land following this. And thank you for your selfless work for the game and the community!
  14. backwards (Fire Man), you will always be a part of the family that is this community. Thank you for the work you did!
  15. Thrillseeker

    To all of you...

YOU are one of OUR heroes, Zwillinger. Please, somehow, some way, reach out to the community that is going to last long past the game's sunset and let us know where you land. You are one of us. You are family.
  16. I must already have this 'power' on my account as any code tells me I can't apply it. And that's usually the error when that sort of thing happens. Thanks for offering these, guys.

    {You can also find my original post-event Victory Server related post elsewhere in this thread.}

Thanks for the explanation. I do appreciate you community folk. You ROCK, as do the folks from CS that help you from time to time.

My issue I had with the way the event went on Victory wasn't with the running of the event itself, but with the expectations placed about the event by the posting listing the times for the event vs the reality. I fully expected that just because I couldn't get on the server until 7pm that since the event was LISTED to last until 8pm (all times listed here as PDT, like the event posting said there were) that it would still be going when I got on at 7pm. Or at worst, in the 'party time' stage. Not just a few leftover mobs here and there.

If you post that something is going to last three hours... it needs to last three hours in some manner. If manpower limits that, then mention in a disclaimer (referred to with a * next to each end time) at the bottom of the listing something like "End times may vary depending on server population and available community team manpower. The end times listed above are estimates, not promises."

Beyond that, I remind you that you have a very large and active COH community out here. If you need help and it is something we can help you with - Such as mashing buttons for mobs during the fighting, or tossing out temp titles on your behalf to take some of the load off the community team to make it so you can serve more of the community better during live events. You only need to ask. I know many of us that would step up to the plate and would love to be able to have been a part of making it work.

Yes, this would mean that the devs would have to come up with some sort of tool, or yet another sort of not-quite-a-dev account for such 'Community Helper Assistants' to use to make this work. (If it doesn't already exist.) Yes, it would contain risk of miss-use. I still remember the old days of EQ and what a dedicated team of Player Guides were able to do for that game in 'the day'. (Never mind some of the miss-uses it was put to by a very, very small minority of those Player Guides.) The upside would be yet more community involvement with our beloved game.
  18. FYI - 7pm PDT is NOT the same as 8pm PDT.
Due to my working hours, it was impossible for me to get online before 7pm, even rushing home from work. I hop on Victory for some fun and all that is left of the event is a few tentacles here and there and a few left over level 54 mobs, some of which are worth no xp (I'm playing a level 47 right now).

So, not seeing any Capt Mako chatter on Broadcast, Help, or LFG I looked around, helped some folks kill the tentacles and I and the rest of the active Paragons-of-Victory wandered around Talos taking out stragglers...

Finally, I asked on Help only to find that it all wrapped up just before 7pm with all the giveaways and the like and Quote Moved to do do the giveaways on Freedom Unquote.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement. But maybe that's just the stress from work. Oh, well.

  19. Oh, as an addendum to my own alternate proposal:

Gate the SPECIAL Tier to only being able to spend 1 Reward Token on the SPECIAL tier per tier you have completed. So completing T1 unlocks S1. Completing T2 unlocks S2.

So, At T1 you can only spend on the T1 slot.
At T2 you could spend on T2 slot 1, or S1
At T3 you could spend on any of the T3 slots or S1 and S2.
    ...
  20. Alternate proposal:

Add a SPECIAL tier to the Rewards Tree.
When an item on T9VIP rotates OFF of T9VIP (which seems to take a year or more, from the looks of things), those items move to the SPECIAL tier.

VIPs can choose, rather than spending a Reward Token on whatever Tier they are up to on something from the SPECIAL tier.

This suggestion provides the OP what they are after (though likely slower than they are going to be happy with since they have to wait for things to rotate off the T9VIP onto the SPECIAL), and retains T9VIP and most of the value the T9VIP concept provides: Things that can NOT be gotten to without being a long-timer or spending tons of $$$.

There are two ways this could be implemented:
A> Spending on the SPECIAL tier does NOT count for progression up the rewards tree. or
B> Spending on the SPECIAL tier COUNTS as progression on whatever Tier level is the current one for the VIP Player, allowing them to select something, from the SPECIAL tier rather than Greek Symbols at T3 when they have already gotten the rest of T3 and selecting from the SPECIAL counts to 'complete' T3 and unlock T4.

How LONG it takes for something that has rotated OFF of T9VIP before it appears on SPECIAL would be totally up to the devs, of course.

Understand, as a T9VIP myself, the long and hard way ($1,000+ over the 8 years counting cost of game, subscription and boosters and NOT counting purchases on the Paragon Market since Freedom launched), I personally would PREFER if things that rotate off T9VIP stay exclusive to those that bought them when they were and never are available any other way, I see this as a compromise between what is 'fair' to T9VIPs and what is 'fair' to other VIPs who are not yet T9VIPs. Not everyone has the $$$ to afford to take the quick path to T9VIP or want to commit to a game long enough to earn them though time's passage -- especially when they fear the item they desire may go away before they get there.

It might have something to do with another superhero MMO on the market these days that runs based on a Hero System IP... but I could be way off base.

As for myself, I play Star Hero and said IP Hero on a regular basis (i.e. every 2 weeks, PnP).

And one of these days I will get to play some ongoing M&M 3e.
  22. At least the German Sheppard had value in looks and future promise. This... this is NOT getting my points... even once it finally goes on sale (unless it appears in a bundle full of lots of OTHER stuff I am interested in), I have no plans on ever buying it....

I will really, really like to see the sales figures for this once after it's 'limited time' period is over.

BTW, I felt 250 for a cosmetic 'fun' power like Flying Disc is also a 'won't buy it'. Yes, it makes sense because it is something that the game studio does for fun in house and the programming on it was done 'off the clock' and all that as a 'fun for US' (US being the in house studio).... and it does prove the studio does 'fun' stuff just for themselves. But 250 points??!

This vanity pet (even with it's little buff) for the price of a power set is WAY over priced. It must have really cost a LOT to program!!!
  23. And here's the quote I missed:
    Quote:
Villains who have unlocked their Alpha Incarnate slot will receive a threatening Arachnos message from a deranged member of the organization. This man's madness may either be an intricate plot from Arachnos or an indication of something far more powerful that seeks to exact justice upon villains.
So, the issue is between the chair and the keyboard and NOT with the game. My bad. Nevermind. We are not ninja, we are a hedge. Move along.
  24. Yes, that does appear to be the issue. I am going to go look at the patch notes and announcement about Issue 22 and the 'Solo Path' and see if it is clearly stated and I just missed it somehow. I guess I missed that during VIP beta because they automatically unlocked Alpha for all level 50's there... so I was unclear on this when I previewed it over there.
