Guild Wars 2 Killed City of Heroes!
What? Am I the only one who sees this?
No. NCSoft killed COH.
GW2 may have taken more funding than needed or something - but the blame lands squarely on the folks at NCSoft corporate.

I think they wanted to push people to their new game so the eliminated the most primary competition with themselves they had.
DnD did the same thing when they came out with 4th ed. They stopped ALL pdf sales of their old material.
Personally, due to the way NCSoft pulled the rug out from under Paragon Studios like this, I, for one, will never play an NCSoft product again. (Well, 'never' is a strong word. Let's just say it would take major new management, rehiring many of the Paragon Studios folks in other parts of the company -- or at least OFFERING them a place elsewhere, etc...)
I -was- interested in some of the other games in the NCSoft stable, especially GW2 and Wildstar (or whatever it is called).... but now... they ain't getting any more of my money if I realize that money is going to NCSoft.

Apparently you can't buy GW2 currently because they've had some massive phishing issue that's compromised their database. Never seen a game come pre-hacked before.

I don't think it killed it. I do think ArenaNet will be next once the holidays are over. I can't see NCSoft continue to invest in MMO development that only succeeds in NA and Europe. I also suspect that Wildstar will not see the light of beta.

There is a lot of phishing going on, but it's only affecting those dumb enough to click links on emails or who use the same email/pwd for multiple sites/games.
If you read what Arenanet have actually said, they've suspended direct digital sales because the servers are full and they want to slow the number of new users. You can still buy the game from 3rd party retailers however.
I know you're bitter about the end of this game, but seriously, take the time to verify the random nonsense you see flying round the internet before you post.

I am not buying any NCSOFT products.
I havn't bought a single Wizards of the Coast product since the 4E debacle. I may not be much but I am one thing, and that is a consumer who in conscientious of where I spend my money.
I Can Vote With My Wallet, whats more I might just start on direct competitors to NCSOFT especially if the Paragon Studios alumni are involved.

They chose to focus on GW2 and other games rather than keep CoH alive.
They made a wrong choice.
Now you have a gaming community where the majority will never play another NCsoft game again.
And yes, in a way NCsoft killed CoH FOR GW2 and therefore in some ways GW2 killed CoH. Perspective.

Let's not point fingers at other games. Guild Wars 2 is a no sub game, they didn't need to push people to it. Canceling one game with subscription fees and a market filled with many money sinks to get people to one with no sub fee and few money sinks (which can be circumvented with in-game gold) is not a sound business plan.
"And don't you ever stand for that sort of thing. Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back."
This theory has made the most sense so far, so it may not be NCSoft's fault.

"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.
And they decide to keep Aion, WTF Aion Sucks, I will Boycott NcSoft once they shut down Coh.
Never play another NcSoft game, If you feel pride for our game, then it as well, I Superratz am Proud of all of you Coh people, Love, Friendship will last for a lifetime.

All this does is drive people AWAY from GW2. The Anet people are probably shaking their heads in disappointment over this. Not only does it focus the ire (undeservedly) on them from a bunch of grieving gamers (and gamers hold LONG grudges and are VERY vocal - hello NGE!) but it must hang over them like a Sword of Damocles that even if they're doing well and making money, NCSoft may simply pull the plug without notice.
This is the worst publicity that could hit in GW2's first week, and frankly NCSoft are stupid on SO many levels for doing it this way, not least of which is that their timing actually hurts GW2. If they wanted to "trick" people into moving to GW2, why would they do this in the first week instead of waiting for a bunch of gamers to buy the game to test it out, THEN dropping the bomb on CoH after GW2 had been up a couple months. Think a little instead of kneejerking your conspiracy theory.

Doing this at this time was BAD for GW2, not good. GW2 has no sub fee, they just need you to buy the box. Pissing off a bunch of gamers before they even get a chance to buy it was the stupidest thing imaginable.
Oh, and as for the "coming pre-hacked" shot? The people who got hacked were stupid enough to either click a phishing email or to use the same password they use on other unsecure sites like fan forums and whatnot. It has nothing to do with Anet's security, just idiots who use "password123" as their password.
