Yeek, thread got busy while I was rebuilding my OS...looks like my Windows install was unstable. It's still not 100%, I wound up saying heck with it and doing what I'd been thinking of doing for a while, upgrading to 64 bit Windows 7, and installing 64 bit drivers where I could (oddly, Windows was convinced I should install a 32 bit video card driver...I overrode that and got one for my system). I now have the privilege of seeing my memory usage go DOWN in the game. Sat in an Arachnos lag-map villain-side for awhile, and my memory usage (on a demon summoning mastermind no less, flaming pets by her side) stayed at 800 megs usage. I'll be quick to say I don't give a damn if the game is using 3 gigs of memory (which it could I think under 64-bit), so long as I can play...thus far it's screaming.
My memory may be the next thing I update on this work-in-progress computer, memory tests say what I've got is fine but for some reason my 4 gigs is showing up as 3.3...regardless, for now the game is screaming (in a good way), on Ultra settings even. I'm a happy rabbit. -
Been futzing with this some more...installed SP3 (and acquired a strange bug where I keep getting stuck in forward motion, unable even to turn? Frantically hitting buttons seems to throw me into reverse sometimes...weird stuff), got myself up to date on patches, finally got the Catalyst install to work and got that up to date, very buggy software, and adjusted those settings so they're application-controlled...now I seem to be able to get up to 1.7-1.8 gigs of memory usage before I crash, I'm not sure if this is an improvement.
Same thing happens on test, exactly. I dunno, I'd cheerfully rip out all the Ultra Mode changes by the roots if it would let me play for extended periods with my friends, but without knowing if that's the cause I'm not sure I want to jump through those hoops. It still looks like a memory leak to me, but that just leaves me stuck until the PTBs fix it, so I'm certainly hoping this isn't the case. -
Sounds ridiculously similar to the troubles I've been having, denoted in my own thread on the subject; I notice we have the same family video cards even, not the exact same model (mine's ATI) but close, and for me the game will play for up to an hour, the memory usage will get to around 1.5 gigs and then *phffft*. I've updated drivers all over the place, I've installed SP3, I've done everything but get out the bead rattles and cut the head off a chicken...best I seem to have done is get it to crash around 1.7-1.8 gigs and go a trifle longer time-wise.
Did notice something in 'known issues' for our shared video card series...what version of the Catalyst Control Center are you at? http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/kno...wn_issues.html is saying that Catalyst 10.2 has a problem with 'ultra-mode', 10.4 is better, given I'm on 10.4 and still having the trouble I doubt it's a fix...still, perhaps something to look at. -
Quote:I rather hope I've got Ambient Whobewhatsis turned off, I tried turning it on and it made me nauseous...I have no idea what AA and AF are? I have turned off and/or uninstalled all my AV software aside from Avast, it seems to work the best anyway. SuperAntiSpyware I can't seem to get to go away, and I'm not totally certain I should...I hate having just one source of spyware protection, them things are nasty... Oh, I did turn off Avast's auto-update, thinking maybe this was caused by it constantly calling the mothership for instruction. Dunno.I'm hoping je_saist can jog my memory here, but I seem to recall a problem with the 5xxx series running both Ambient Occlusion and ... either AA or AF. I just can't recall which it was.
Also, is there are reason you are running two anti-virus programs at the same time? That can generally cause a few problems.
I'd recommend killing off a lot of those background processes as well. The Java Update Scheduler is an easy one to spot as unneeded. I'd also kill off the Log Me In Hamachi stuff, AdAware and SuperAntiSpyware as well. I'd also set the FNPLicensingService.exe Service entry to Manual instead of Automatic. If you set it to Disabled it will just get set back to Automatic when you launch whatever Adobe product you have installed.
I switched off Java Update (with pleasure), I can always turn Hamachi back on as required next time I want to play L4D2. Good catch on the Adobe, thanks. Unfortunately while I tease myself to think that the memory usage is going up more slowly, it's still out of control. I still wonder if it could be some proggie that's calling home for updates and other crud, but I'm not sure what it could be if so. -
Quote:I wondered about memory leakage...though I didn't want to be one to go 'OMG fix ur softwear!' Whether I was thinking it... I'll check things out on test, get a character and park myself in Wentworth's if I need to, memory usage seems to go up by leaps and bounds there. There's a couple of memory leaks. Try the test server and see if the problem has been fixed in the latest update there.
UPDATE: Nope, same thing. Drat. -
Hi, all. I'm hoping somebody can help me... Ever since I17 started, I've been unable to play the game for more than 20-45 minutes at a time. Checking in the task manager, the memory usage for the game keeps going up and up, until it reaches around 1.45 gigs of memory used...then video freezes, sometimes the game will just crash to desktop, often with a 'Send to Microsoft' error box, other times it'll just freeze and I'll have to kill the process to get my screen back. I've defragged, checked my video and sound drivers and updated those, my memory seems to be okay according to the tests I've done, I even unseated and reseated the memory sticks, no go. Don't know...I'm frustrated, I keep thinking there's some small fix that I'm missing somewhere, maybe somebody with more knowhow than me will be able to figure it out. Heck, for all I know this is all 'cause I haven't updated my VidiotMaps recently, keep forgetting...

I've been a little overzealous with ad-blocker programs, I realize, I got infected a month ago or so and I wanted the bugs killed dead, eradicated with fire, destroyed with atomic weaponry and then talked to rudely... Anyway, hope somebody can help. -
I like it. Improvements, hm...more light for it would be my first thought. Are those tubes thick enough to conceal the smaller of the floor lamps? If not, hiding some torches inside could possibly work (I think a white glow instead of a yellow one would be better, but not sure how to get that unfortunately). At least that's kinda how I envision a 'prisoner tube' is with barriers made of light, perhaps a legacy of too much Star Trek...
Wonder if there'd be a way to employ Jacob's Ladders in there somehow, without it looking *too* much like they're tacked on...seems like the sparks coursing up and down would be an ideal feature. -
At a guess, I would say yes. Transparent items in-game tend to neuter particle effects, and some other effects...sometimes with amusing results, for awhile there my female characters who wore skirts could sit down in watery areas and suddenly be skirtless...while I haven't seen the transparencies removing the particle 'flames', I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised. I've noticed some other particle effects disappear when looked at through the glass logos. Looks to me like the light is staying, while the flames themselves are just showing up as a yellow glow. From the picture at least.
-
I'll be putting words in the other poster's mouth, but...looks like two crates from the Tech section (at least two, there might be a third that I can't see hidden down below), the torches that were mentioned, and four of the glass supergroup logos, artfully arranged. Trying to figger out how other people did this stuff is fun!
-
That is *interesting*...I may try that just for the heck of it

Any chance for the 72 month Vet Reward we can get a pattern that says:
"I played this game for six years and all I got was this lousy shirt"?

(thumbs up)

I want that in RL, preferably with the City of Heroes and City of Villains logos...even better, one of each and a 'Good vs. Evil' edition
Anyway...admittedly I'm a 48-monther, on my main account anyway, but my second account is less than a year old, so maybe my opinion counts...I wouldn't object to letting the rewards be a purchasable option, but not the badges themselves, if that's possible (if having the badge is what unlocks the veteran rewards, so much for that idea). The badges I think should still be veteran only, not really a reason to stay in the game (if somebody is staying in the game over badges, or even the veteran rewards themselves, I really have to think that it's a sad state of affairs), just a nice little perk.
Personally with temp travel powers and such I still don't think this is THAT big a deal anyway, but whatever. For all we know, there might be more temp powers released soon for the PVP zones and arenas which would further level the field there--truthfully, I say why not, give the PVP crowd a chance to fill up their slots with attacks and defenses while just buying their travel powers, no need to actually have 'em on their PVP builds. Tho' I don't PVP, so what do I know there, really? -

Multiple accounts? Otherwise, not possible I'm afraid, 36 is the max for a single account
Anyway...the level 57, kinda meh, but I'll take it. At least in October I believe it is, I will...the 60? Fantastic, great present for my next birthday in January next yearWonder how many people will do like I'm thinking of doing, take a combination of Super Jump and Super Speed without the prereqs?
Truthfully, I can't see this as being terribly unbalancing for most people...since it's quite possible nowadays to have NO travel pools on a character, thereby freeing up two (minimum) powers, something I've considered doing honestly...ah well. Whatever -

Neat. Somebody should really make a treehouse with those.

I've considered such. I've been working on 'character housing' for the group, rather wanted something split-level...I may just see if I can use those hand 'tree roots' for supports -

That was from memory. -
Yeah, they look like flourescent lights, seen from above, to me.

Oh, that is killer. I like. *heh* Now I'm wondering if I should have a forklift in the little 'storage room' I turned our tech power center into...the room does need a little something more

Mission Teleporter; Mac Edition purchasable; level ? minimum; TP directly to mission door; 120 minute recharge which (can or can not) be shortened by global recharge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seems to be level 3 minimum. I created a new character, and the power was greyed out until then...not only that, in the level-up screen when I went back to Ms. Liberty to get to that level, it said I would be getting a new inherent power, the Mission Teleporter.
I like the new costume options, definitely, they're gorgeous (as were the interesting comments from people in Atlas who had never seen the costumes before), and the porter is useful...it would definitely be more useful with a lower recharge rate. I used it once at level 3 to try it out, as well as avoid the inevitable slog past level 6 enemies to get to a door in Atlas...and the power wasn't available again 'til I was level 7. Heck, if I had been doing the sewers, or even just on a team someplace, I probably would have been level 10 before the two-hour span was done. -
I am SO stealing that portal stand...great stuff!

Oh, that wheelchair is gorgeous. And certainly just the thing for any budding X-men-style groups
Not that I have one, still, I love it. And may cheerfully swipe for the Warren's little infirmary.
-
Incredible job. I shudder to think what that many items might do to peoples' frame rates in the game, but VERY nice regardless
-
The cubicles are now my bestest friends
Got the porter markers (what the heck are those things called?) up in record time with a combination of the accent lamp, floor tile and the cubicle...then went on to build 'false walls' out of bookshelves in record time, in Lilian's little 'apartment'...and then put pictures up 'on' those walls using the cubicles! I'll post pictures soon, the Warren is looking GREAT. Even if I do say so myself.
-
Very cool, I think (assuming Comcrap ever lets me back on the internet at home) I'll be making use of that...I've an idea for placing the Warren's telepad-markers in front of the porters, but I didn't really want to build a buncha lamps and fight with the porter's bounding box. If I can hitch 'em to the side of a cubicle...fantastic, that'll be MUCH simpler.
