SG mode to determine base rent?
Not sure if this is true or not, but if it is I like to here more about it. Beside our SG likes to use one of our costume slots to make a group uniform, and I used that one a lot. I do not think I have ever turn on SG mode the whole time I been in my SG.
Word up.
besides, wouldn't it make more sense to base prestige off of time spent on SG TEAMS?? yanno, where members of the SG do things together? cos being seen in an SG costume ain't worth diddly unless you're actually doing something, and being teamed with other SG members should be a multiplier (you're reinforcing the group as a close-knit organization instead of just a bunch of guys with similar costumes.)
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
Well it seems to be a way of coercing the SG's to use that part of their group.
It does make sense if that is what they want.
However.. Why did you have to point out a very blantant abuse of the system like that?
Doesn't pointing out that abuse simply take away from people just playing the game for fun and not abusing every loophole out there?
I am in favor of having them use the SG mode. Seems a better idea than having to use Influence for it. Makes it so they don't have to farm missions for influence.
Of course you did point an an abuse they will do to cover the prestiage cost. Unless.. they make it so that you can only accumulate so much any one time?
Still seems like a good idea.

Frankly, I'd rather we spend influence on bases. Why you ask? Because I'm drowning in the stuff, and I don't even have a level 50 yet. I hit Icon twice a week, my enhancements are always slotted up. We need more things to spend influence on.
Unless "rent" runs in the 8+ digits, I'd say a handful of 50s could probably maintain a SG base by themselves.

There is a hero in our SG sitting on about 400 million, so I to hope that bases gives us a way to use influence for something.

I will happily let you spend influence on me.
Ignorance is being untaught. Stupidity is being unwilling to learn.
I entirely intend to do so, if it is based on inf.
I hate the idea of SG prestige buying bases, in a large part because my SG teams together pretty constantly, but never uses the SG mode, as the colors just don't fit with a lot of our characters. We shouldn't have to look like silly little gits to have a decent base.

I don't know if this rumor is true, but just in case I am informing our members to switch to SG mode.
And as for your concern about colors (which is a concern of many), I posted to simply default to your original character colors. Only the SG symbol appears on the chest then.
Hope that helps

Other news from GenCon...
SG bases will not be purchased with Influence, they'll be purchased with something called 'Prestige', and you'll earn Prestige for the SG while you are in SuperGroup Mode.
Zeb said they'd be datamining for this so that once Prestige is implemented, already active SGs will have lots of it.
So, if we want to have a rockin' SG base as soon as we can, we should all start playing our X characters in SuperGroup Mode, pretty much all the time.
So sayeth the devs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I think the datamining of time spent in SG mode stinks. I don't know of a single SG out there that uses SG mode over an official SG costume and think it's a bad idea. I would rather have my SG dump 100 million a month in Influence into a base than be obligated to log in my character, enter a door mission, put him in SG mode, then go to bed just so I can build 'prestige' to pay base rent.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really hope this isnt true. As out sg has been saving up for our bases. We as well just have our own outfit, we never use that sg mode thing.
so... *please not be true.. please not be true... please not be true... *

Is this something that can be earned before the bases are added with CoV?
Upsen.
I sure hope that changes. We never use SG mode, we have a seperate costume slot four SG uniform. As mentioned I don't want to have to log into a mission and stand there in SG mode all night and all day to earn prestige.
Cheers!

I'm pretty sure that whatever earns this new prestige, doing that won't be one of the possible ways :P

Even if you have a special SG costume, you can still enter SG mode while it is on, no? I'm assuming (probably shouldn't, but meh) that your SG costumes have matching colours, so it is pretty easy just to have SG mode on while you are wearing it.
On the prestige over influence, it makes sense concept wise (the more recognizable the SG the better the base) but as far as in game goes, it just seems too easy. Maybe instead, you should earn prestige when you defeat villains while you are in a team with one or more other SG memberes.
I sort of hope this isn't the case. For one, it gives a huge leg up to people who've used a completely optional part of the game for the past 15 months. It also means that bases will be purchased with a time requirement rather than by actually playing the game. It also seems a little unfair that a SuperGroup that started the first week of release might not be able to get a base because they never use the SG mode while another SG that started only a few months ago and uses it all the time will.
Also, I spend a lot of time making my costumes look good. I'd hate to all the sudden have to use SG colors all the time so my SG can get a base.
Lastly, I think something like this could potentially hurt the servers. What would prevent me from, instead of logging out when I can't play, going into an instance and leaving the character in with SG colors during the night?
Hopefully this isn't the only way to earn prestige.

Which would bring us back to farms again. People would just farm whatever mission of the week is easiest to gather prestige, which would probably be tacked onto our "reward" along with xp and inf with every kill.
Best thing right now, in my opinion, unless something else is added to the game to use influence on, is just make bases cost influence per month.
As to the poster that asked why I would point out an abuse of the system: because it's so obvious. I don't PL or farm, or anything of that sort, but it took me all of 3 seconds to realize that if we want our SGs to have fun bases, we should just go afk (or leave a book on the spacebar if they restrict prestige time to non-afk only) all night long. A system with such huge problems from the getgo needs to be changed. It's like the people in CoV Beta: they're testing the program and giving feedback to the devs so they can fix the biggest problems before 100,000 people buy it on launchday and make it far worse than it needed to be.

Turn SG mode on, and set all the colors to your default costume colors. SG mode stays on, and you get to keep your normal costumes.
Arc #345863 - When The Bough Breaks
"Curse you Perry the Plata...wait, is that Love Handel?" - Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, Phineas and Ferb
chest detail still changes in SG mode.

Except for SG logo.....

Interesting.
I think SG mode with default colors isn't so bad, even if the chest detail changes. I can see a lot of people taking the "AFK in mission" route.
What sucks is that this (seemingly) will take a *long* time for villain SGs to get any decent amount of prestige time, potentially delaying any villain base raids.
To the OP: Would you mind at least linking to the rest of the information for all of us to see? Copying & pasting will work too...
Yes, people can set SG mode to be the same as normal mode, but people's concerns center around the datamining. If the devs are going to go back and award prestige for time spent in SG mode over the last 6-12 months, then this will not catch people who have spent 6-12 months of playing with their SGs constantly but with a standardized SG costume slot (which doesn't require being in SG mode). All that retroactive actual SG time will go unrecognized.

The quote in my original post is all the information I have on this so far.
Edit: I have PM'd Lord_Recluse asking for confirmation or denial of Prestige in base rent/building, but it may take a little while to get a response from him since he has a few days worth of PMs to get caught up on since he was away at GenCon.

The rest was the CoV release date, which was posted in the private section of the forums. Thats pretty much all we have.
Problem I have with this is our SG is all but dead. We were small to begin with and now there's only about 8 of us left after the I5 news came out. Our founder is shutting down the website(won't sell it or transfer) and has requested that we don't use the SG name anymore. Which is all fine and good, but we have to make a new SG soon.
So wether or not we run around in SG mode, which I do quite abit just to change colors, will become pointless with a new SG.
