  1. I entirely intend to do so, if it is based on inf.

I hate the idea of SG prestige buying bases, in a large part because my SG teams together pretty constantly, but never uses the SG mode, as the colors just don't fit with a lot of our characters. We shouldn't have to look like silly little gits to have a decent base.

Planescape Torment was one of the best RPG computer games ever. Great storyline and interesting, fun characters (loved that floating skull guy).

All true. Though it should be noted that he didn't work on the game, but the tabletop setting. that said, I <3 cannibal hobbits.
  3. Quarterfeild? Pah, I deny his entire existence.
  4. oh there is a good deal in the Shard TFs, but frankly those four zones REALLY need some damn development. They Are TEH AWESOME! it would be great to have some stuff to do there beyond fruit hunting.

I believed they said, "Items of Cosmic importance." That leads me to believe them to be a bit more thatn flags. Perhaps certain ones offer certain buffs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. Cosmic Importance more implies Infinity Gauntlets, Cosmic Cubes, or Universal Nullifiers than, say, the Rhode Island state flag, or even Old Glory herself. In other news, I like capitalizing Important Stuff.
  6. actually, the Tsoo are definately Hmong in origin. One of the pedestrian comments in Talos is "Those Tsoo make the rest of the Hmong community look bad."

I spose you could argue that pedestrian doesn't know what they are talking about, but once you start ignoring the in game info sources, then you leap off into the wonderful realm of unsupported hear-say.

Yeah. How's about you don't screw DragonCon over this year by saying. "Oh by the way...we're not coming to that con next week!" Honestly, after doing that, that should've been the first Con visit you announced.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They didn't screw DragonCon. It was more the other way around. There was a posting at the time that explained it in circular language to avoid stepping on people's toes. There are some players here on the boards who know the backstory better than me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I heard the story. Frankly I don't believe it. They had only announced DC like 3 weeks before it was scheduled to occur, if that. By that point, DC had already closed their vendor registrations and whatnot. I imagine they got caught outside. In anycase, it's not a matter of who screwed who, it's a matter of trying harder to make sure all of your fans have the chance to get some of the pie.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, It doesn't surprise me one bit. I've got some friends that work for the con every year, and a lot of the time they treat potential guests like crap. Essentially, Cryptic wasn't a big enough developing house to warrent DragonCon officials pushing through their paperwork. It has happened this way before. DC comics on the other hand, is plenty big enough to push through their application. Bet they still don't get comp rooms though...

Dragoin con is traditionally rife with problems. Hell, remember the Tabletop registry fiasco last year? Totally preventable, from what I hear. *shrug* the people at the top there either don't know what they are doing, or don't care. Either way, don't blame cryptic for it. The only reason DragonCon is still in buisiness is because it's the only decently sized con in the area, and the customer service people rock.

Its true that the Kheldians are aliens.. but the body they inhabit is not. Remember the Paragon Times thing? They come to earth in energy base, found they could merge with humans, and benefit from each party.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is it just me, or does anyone else suspect that this is the "Shapeshifting" that statesman keep alluding to? Basically, I suspect that the Epic character is linked to your lvl50, and you can switch back and forth. wouldn't that be NIFTY (assuming it had barriers in there to keep it from being horribly broken...)?
  9. Yer not allowed to claim to be a suit in one breath, and give shout outs in the next Gaffer. It confuses people.

Think about it, in comics heroes are typically somewhat unique. There aren't a bunch of others with the same orgin & powers running around.

    OOOOHHHH!!!!!!

Seriously though, that is a surprisingly good point for something so succint. It is well known that Statesman is a fan of DC comics. Lets see what "Groupings" of characters we can find with same/similar powers (not just from DC).

    Green Latern Corps
    Speed Force users
    Kryptonians
Gamma powered beings (a la Hulk)
Martians (be they Jonn Jonzz, or white)
    Angels
and these are just off the top of my head. I'm sure you can add your own.

The point is, are all Gamma powered characters the same? How about all speed force users? Kryptonians? No they are not. Because a character is not wholly defined by his or her powers. Hell, I'd say not even mostly. The Hulk is AMAZINGLY different from Doc Samson. Parallax and Kyle Raynard are nothing alike. Zoom does things The Flash would never even consider, and vice versa. Making a character that is part of a defined group is TOTALLY part of comics. I am glad we are getting this as an option. Personally, I'm not sure why so many people are surprised. Statesman said a long time ago that the EATs are like Kryptonians. What did you think he meant by that anyway?
  11. ok, 5th column on the rise...hmmm.

Just thinkin, the council of war in Treasure Island wasn't a council among the good guys was it? I'm thinkin we are about to get REAMED...

My only beef with exemplering, and it's big enough that it prevents me from exemplering at all, is the mob running away thing especially since I'm a scrapper. I'm more a nuisance than a help to the lowbies I'm trying to help since one hit and I make them scatter. Very fatal flaw.

    [/ QUOTE ]

yeah, this tends to be a little not cool. mind you, i think the concept was kinda nifty. wee lil weak hellions see big bad lvl34 Fallen Praetor coming to GET them, sure they scatter. it makes sense. unfortunately it is crap for gameplay, which is why they are fixing it. I think it had something to do with the "runner" code being linked to security level, which doesn't go down when you are EXed, though I'm not sure about that.

If a white minion gives 100 experience normally, it will give 75 influence as well:

Exemplared, with debt: 100 debt removed
    Exemplared, w/o debt: 100 influence
Normal, with debt: 50 experience, 50 debt, 75 influence
    Normal, w/o debt: 100 experience, 75 influence

If a white boss gives 400 experience, it will give 1600 influence as well:

Exemplared, with debt: 400 debt removed
    Exemplared, w/o debt: 400 influence
Normal, with debt: 200 experience, 200 debt, 1600 influence
    Normal, w/o debt: 400 experience, 1600 influence

    [/ QUOTE ]

numerically, this is the best explanation of exemplar xp i have seen. bravo.

    [ QUOTE ]
In all cases it is much better to chug through your debt w/o Exemplaring. You will:

    1. Make progress and can actually level.
    2. You will gain the same exp/debt removal, but gain more influence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

...but i must comment on this. #1 is only half right. only by not being exemplar'd can you level. HOWEVER, you do make progress while being ex'ed, as long as

    A) you have debt, and

    B) you are not dying while Ex'ed.

Allow me to elaborate. you just hit level 34, and you do some stupid stuff while hunting. lets say you die 8 times in a row and now have 4 bubbles of debt. you WILL have to work through those four bubbles to level. period. therefor working them off while ex'ed is, in essence, advancing. DO note, however, that dieing while exemplaring quite literally pushes back your progress. Once you have worked all your debt off, however, your progress immediately stops cold. Dying at this point does not mean you begin progressing again, it just means you undid some of your fine work to this point.

point 2, on the other hand, is fully true. due to not receiving SO's every other drop, I do not get as much inf when I ex down. i assume no one else does either, though i could be wrong.

The system does offer some benefits less tangible than straight xp that should be considered.

    1) You get to play, educate, and make friends with lowbies. This means more intelligent players in the game, improving the community as a while. It ALSO means when time comes to Ex down to do a TF, you'll know some people who won't neccisarily get you killed.

    2) lets you work on badges that would otherwise just be a grind. doing some lowbie missions helps get you a hellion or bone daddie badge. It also takes you past exploration badges that you might not have found just wandering on your own (example: I got the healing node badge because i went with my asperant to meet her contact, vitaly cherenko, who i never would have bothered to go back and see. I got the secret admirer badge in the same way, travelling through lower level areas of steel canyon.)

    and...

    3) it helps relations with your regular sidekick if you do some of their mission on occasion.

don't get me wrong, I know that the rewards for Ex'ing down aren't the greatest, but it IS interesting, and DOES have its uses. Personally, I tend to play fairly fast and loose most of the time. This gets me regularly killed. But thats ok, cause there is always Ex'ing. I see this as a chance to go and chill with some lowbie friends who i would not see as much of otherwise, and that's ok by me.

aaand, welcome to the CoH forums.

personally I'd like to see a (low) flying monster. I think a battle dirigible for the sky raiders would be nice. or perhaps some sort of evil plant ship in the oceans of talos!
