...I'm completely blown away by the costume contest entries. IMO the line about "but they're all so good, it's so tough to pick a winner" is BS - usually, everyone knows who the winner is way in advance after looking through everything once. Not this time - and it's so obvious so much time/effort/energy went into so many of those costumes that I'm really impressed. And somewhat scared. And glad I'm not judging this time around, there are a LOT of top-caliber entrants - I'd never have expected so many. Really good attention to detail on some of those costumes, too - if we go through the contest and you think no one noticed the small stuff, yer probably wrong...at least I did, and I'm a suit.

Anyhow, just a shout out to the entrants - I've looked at every costume picture, and think about half outright must be in the running to win (and most of the rest are pretty damn amusing in their own right just on sheer spunk) I hope your non-COH friends weren't too confused by your Halloween costumes, either "Well, you see, there's this game, and I'm this blue faced guy with red horns and a cape..."

Anyways, just a completely honest "holy hot damn that's amazing" on my part.

I second that notion. I wish we could give more prizes...

A red replying to a red!

I so gotta get a job with Cryptic.

Seriously you guys get some spare time, and what do you do, post on the CoH messege boards. Kudos.

not in the contest myself.. but you could always give the runner ups some cameo in the comic book! that's free for you guys, and pretty rewarding for the runner ups! (in fact, I think I'd rather take the cameo than the grand prize.. but that's just me..

How dare you be human Gaffer!

Those crossdressers need special consideration. He shaved his armpits, that alone shows lovefor the game.

Wax man wax next time

Man, I wish I could've entered, but my costume was soooo damn complicated.

Maybe next year...

Hmm..Perhaps next year ill enter also...Gona be damn weird being at the checkout counter when I get all my stuff...

Posted

I would have entered, but I would have had to crossdress to play my main. And overweight guys shouldn't really crossdress as girls in spandex (No offense to anyone who did).

I agree, this community is awesome, some really creative people out there, I'm glad I'm not judging that!! Good job all those that entered, even if you don't win, it was not in vain, we saw it and it was great! All of you!

Yer not allowed to claim to be a suit in one breath, and give shout outs in the next Gaffer. It confuses people.

To all you guys in the contest: YOU ROCK!

Period.

You're telling me. I even chopped off one of my arms for my costume, but I couldn't get the cybernetic replacement to work. I was so disappointed. Oh, well, maybe I'll get it done by next year.

Kudos to those brave enough and creative enough to enter the contest.

And I really, really wish you had it extended outside the USA...I wanted so much to compete...any plan for a Europe-inclusive contest for next Halloween?

Shame we didn't see any Fire Tankers in those pictures... very easy to make petrol and a cigarette lighter.

That's like crossing the streams! It's anti-matter!

anyway... I looked at the entries and I must say, WOW, I'm torn between my new respect for some of these people's GUTS in dressing up like that and my utter bewilderment in thinking that a LOT of them are like "uh, what was I thinking when I had my character dress like this?!"
lmao, from now on it's business suits all the way.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I know mine probably falls into the second category (I concentrated more on fitting the character than matching the in-game costume exactly, hence the wings and pompom) but I had a great time dressing up.This is definitely something both you guys and us guys should do next year!

As for rewarding those who participated, something small like a "Costumed Crusader" badge would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the props. My friend and I are the Ninjas with swords. We are both executives as well. Our wives gave us a hard time durring the creation of our costumes and when we went to take photos. We are in the Houston, TX. area and we were sweating in all that black. We had the best time doing it though.

Is it just me, or am I the only one who finds this amusing? of course you can! You're the guys who are running this thing! You can do whatever you want! You can choose to keep all the prizes yourself if you choose to. Or you can double the prizes. Or make new categories (I can see categories of blaster, scrapper, etc) or award honorable mentions different prizes....

I think people would be pissed if you didnt' give some of the rewards you'd promised, but I don't think you'd rub any fur the wrong way by giving extras....

Zeus - god of extras

I must say that I enjoyed entering the contest and also enjoyed seeing all the entrants (Thank goodness I'm not in the running with the crossdressers! You guys blew me away!).

Looking forward to the end of the suspense - good luck to all the entrants!

Sikna: Brilliant suggestion. A Costume badge would be a great reward for any who submitted an entry.

Lol, I love reading Gaffer's posts. They're very down to earth, and usually pretty funny. Definately not sucktasic.
