  1. Funny, I can't find the Scrapper Challenge mission any more... it seems to be missing.

That Aeon one is tough, and since I can't dps down a +4 boss with my tank, oh well. 8(

I just searched for the words "scrapper challenge" in the AE and it popped up.

Challenges are for pushing limits, expanding the envelope, for standing back and going, "Wow I did that!"
That's a good way of looking at it.

I guess I can consider the difficulty settings as my score on the challenge.

    Thanks!

  4. These are some pretty awesome builds, I'm going to have to spend some quality time with them in Mids later, thanks!

One thing I noticed is that you both chose another Tri or Quad IO after 4 Kinetic Combats, whereas I tended to slot in a proc. I guess the numbers were higher in mids for the proc, and the gambly nature of the damage was appealing. This is why GFS had that funny slotting too, I figured putting the extra slots all into faster attacks would be better. I guess there is more benefit to getting higher constant acc/dmg/end/rechg. Should help with my DPS and endurance.

As for the stealth - if I hit the softcap, I wont care about the def from stealth, and I can probably slot a stealth IO in sprint as suggested. I think the def from stealth suppresses to 1/2 value, not 0 value when I was last looking at it, which is why I originally considered it.

  5. What settings am I supposed to run it at?

Is it supposed to be done at

    +4 Levels
    8x Team size
    yes Bosses
    yes AVs

Or is there some other standard I'm supposed to set it to?

I tried this on a wp/fire tank, and the settings above eat me alive unless I corner pull, and he doesn't have enough DPS to significantly hurt the Challenge boss

On standard 1/1/no-boss/no-av settings it's pretty easy but I dont think that's how this was meant to be played.

  6. Well here is the build posted minus the PvP IOs: If there's any recommendations to get close to softcap, I could use some help.

    Thanks!

    Snapshot of Totals
  7. Holy smokes, I guess I wont be getting one of those any time soon. That's really expensive.

I'll update my build info tomorrow.

    Upsen.
  8. I played this tank to 50 a while back, enjoying the whole trip up to 50, and did the whole Mids thing just before the advent of PvP IO sets. I have a few questions that I am hoping the Tanker forum can answer:

    1. how common are the PvP IO set globals? Are they obtained only as PvP drops?
(Gladiator's Armor +3% global defense and Shield Wall +3% global resist)

    2. How can I improve my build's defense without sacrificing too much other stuff?

Planned build that needs a little more DEF tweaking

    Old build for reference.

    Thanks,
    Upsen.

    --
A bit of background here if anyone wants to know how I use this tank.

    Aggro
I became pretty good at handling the WP aggro gap with liberal use of AOE and taunt. So I definitely want to keep Combustion, FSC, and Fireball.

Of course, if someone like another tank or a scrapper wanted aggro, they could take it off of me without much problem. Especially Invul scrappers... yeesh. So, in a team setting I tended to be the off-tank. Depending on the team kill speed, I would be setting up the next fight or bringing more mobs into the current fray.

    Attacks
Mainly I use Fire and Pyre AOEs, for the taunt factor, and go to my single target attacks between AOEs.

    Defenses (and Resists)
I set things up to try and get to the DEF softcap in the following order: Smashing/Lethal & Energy/Negative, then Fire/Cold. I left the psi and toxic alone since it is already very decent on a WP tank. Since I prefer avoiding a hit rather than resisting a hit, I generally run with just WP powers and Weave. Currently the tank is about high 30s Defense.

I turn on Tough when the going gets tough, (going from 40ish to 60ish S/L) and
I turn on Strength of Will when things get Really Tough. (going from 60 S/L to 90 S/L).

My other SHTF button is Stealth - it gives that extra bit of global defense, useful since I'm not softcapped yet. This is for when things have completely gone to pot and everyone's defeated. There's no aggro competition involved and all the foes will follow the WP/Fire to some other place leaving it safe for people to rez and recover. I would use it in places like where the team has wiped in the tougher big-team RWZ TF/SA missions, from incoming ambushes. Plus I use it sometimes when soloing.

Also, on a glowie hunt, when tanks run around in plain sight hunting for glowies, it often causes problems for other players trying to stealth their way around, esp from AOE splash etc. This power lets you avoid that.

    Fitness/Health/Endurance
I decided not to take Fitness, and try to make up the extra regen and endurance recovery through IO sets. WP has a better version of Health/Stamina anyways in Fast Health and Quick Recovery. I definitely have a a bit less regen than other WP tanks that do take fitness, but a high DEF and high HP cover for it pretty well.

Of course, stuff that kills regen is very painful - for any WP, including this one.

    That's about it.
  9. Hmm, yes, it must be just me then, of course that's what building silhouettes always look like.

Hi Dinah, no worries about calling out.

Everyone in the thread has done a great job of explaining the organizational benefits of the colour, and the video lag problems from drawing umpteen different things on your screen at once. It used to matter more due to the sheer number of heroes (was it 150 or 200?) and the lower horsepower of the video cards (and computers) back then.

I picked the particular costume parts cause of two things.

    1. They were the parts that had the fewest pieces to draw.
    2. They had no particular personal details or body parts/hair showing.

The texture didn't matter as much as the polygons, but I specified one so that it would be more uniform.

The colours were very important - this was to speed up organization.

    Why:
    1. Raid leaders quickly see who's here for the raid, and what's going on during the raid.
(Blasters here, Defenders there, Control by the yolk, etc.)
    2. Raiders can find where they are supposed to be by looking for their colour.
(I'm a blaster wearing red so I should be where all those other red heroes are. That guy in the gold suit is leading and not just honking around above the hami.)

    How:
I based the colors mostly on the Archetype colours but I took the yellow and pink for the raid leader and the targeter cause they are really easy to spot. (everyone hated the pimpin' pink so it got dropped except for a few brave folks.)

Because the defenders/controllers had so many roles, we split off empathy, rad, kine to have their own color on top of the archetype color, so they could find each other as well. (remember the kine+sniper tactic or the rad anchor tactics etc?)

    That's pretty much everything.

    Cheers,

    Hey Zubs,

Sorry to hear about your loss, hope you and your daughter will feel better over time, and remember the good parts rather than the bad.

Back in Issue one when Unyeilding Tankers could not move, I have the Teleportation power. I would teleport into the middle of a mob and aggro them. We refer to this as "dropping a Tanker bomb."

    [/ QUOTE ]
My old SG used to do this literally - I would fly above the mob and recall our Invul tank into midair, dropping him in to start each fight.

    As for the You-know-when-you're-addicted,

When you are channel surfing on the TV's electronic guide, you see PLBOY and think about Power Levellers instead of bunny outfits.

  18. I'd vote for this to be put in. Are there any other events that are as long running as Tanker Tuesday?

It makes a great gathering point marker, after all it has been used every month since forever. Plus it would let non-forum readers and other servers know that there is such an event held on Champion.

You might want the plaque to mention that it's the first tuesday of every month too. 8)

  19. Can we have some settings and options for the email system please - such as

    - receive email from friends/global friends list (yes/no)
    - receive email from SG members (yes/no)
    - receive email from Coalition members (yes/no)
    - receive email from total strangers who are trying to spam you (yes/no)

Or even just a simple option to turn OFF the email system. The only thing I do with my email system is delete the damn spam EVERY DAY.

  20. Why dont you put in a VOTE system to elect the super leader? Give the current leaders a vote each. Tied voting means no super leader.

I mean, we are all about democracy right? :P

This way any SG politics would not affect customer service - CS would just have to worry about if the voting system works or not.

  21. I just got a pact to 50. It is still trying to assign XP+inf instead of all inf:

You gain 969 experience for your leveling pact. You will not receive experience until your leveling pact catches up with you.
    You gain 291 influence.
    <SG> gains 9 prestige.

Both Pact members have done all the level ups to L50.

Is there any point to still keeping the pact? future developments for pact members etc?

  23. I purchased a Logitech MX3200 keyboard and mouse set and I was rather surprised when I found that the extended mouse buttons didn't work in CoH. It was basically like having a 2-button mouse with an unclickable scroll wheel again! I plugged my trusty Logitech MX510 back in, and much to my dismay, the SetPoint Software took it over as well - I'd now lost my button 3, 4 and 5 bind functionality.

I talked with a friend who also plays CoH and asked them about it, and they said they just uninstalled the SetPoint software and stuck with the old 9.x mouse drivers. I also looked it up in the forums, and the only time SetPoint is mentions is in Vista issues... and I run Windows XP, not Vista, so the "administrator" fix wasn't applicable, much like a few other people who have asked about Setpoint and haven't managed to find an answer.

So I set to looking at how to fix the problem, eventually getting to a generic non-profiled setup.

Eventually I figured out how to set the basic 5 mouse buttons under "My Mouse" in the SetPoint software. If you want to have Button 3, 4 and 5 to act like normal mouse buttons, you have to set the SetPoint software to list those buttons as "Generic Button" in the Other category. Dont use the specific named Tasks. Once those are set, then they act as generic mouse buttons.

For buttons 6 thru 10, aka the mouse wheel left tilt and right tilt, and the zoom/magnify buttons, you have to assign "Keystroke Assignments" since there are no such "real" mouse buttons.

For CoH, I assigned Ctrl-PgUp and Ctrl-PgDown to the tilt in SetPoint. (keystroke assignment), since that's what Firefox uses to move between tabs. I assigned some stuff like waving and a flight pose to those keystrokes with a bind.

Heres a sample of what my travel buttons look like. (Yes I have a lot of travel options)

    - Superspeed on 7
    - Stealth on 8
    - /bind y powexec_name Hover (7,8 and "y" are an easy reach from my esdf movement keys)

    - /bind mouse4 powexec_name Fly
    - /bind mouse5 powexec_name Inertial Reduction

    - SetPoint button 6 (tilt left)=Ctrl+PageUp, /bind Ctrl+PageUp e wave
    - SetPoint button 7 (tilt right)=Ctrl+PageDown, /bind Ctrl+PageDown e Flypose3
    - (button 8 and 9 unmodified, those buttons are not so easy to click for me.)
    - SetPoint button 10 = PageDown (which is the default CoH command to reset the camera)

Now as I mentioned before, this seems to be a generic non-application specific setup, but I imagine I can make a 'game profile' for it so I can do other functions in other applications... but I will have to figure it out. I'm just glad to have my Fly power back on the side of my mouse again.

If someone knows how to configure a game profile or has searched it, can you please append info to this thread please?

    Cheers,
    Upsen.

For those of you who want a summary:
    - set button 4 5 6 to Generic Button in "My Mouse"
    - set button 7 - 10 to Keystroke Assignment and choose some keystrokes that wont mess up other apps.
    - bind your favorite commands directly to button 4-6
    - bind your favorite commands indirectly to button 7-10 via keystrokes.
    - you dont need that UberOptions program.
