Discussion - Player Services Status Update 9/18/2012
This for me is the main issue I have with how it's all happened so abruptly. We got one of the most anticipated sets since the points system came in (Nature Affinity) along with bio armor (another one many people were desperate to get) just around the corner only one week before the news was revealed & apparently 3 days after its release is the cut off for purchased points. This stinks of one last money grabbing scheme as I highly doubt the timing is just a coincidence. I know plenty of people who bought a lot of points for these 2 sets alone.

Besides, from what I've read of NCSoft's east-west communications record over the last 5 years, I'd be surprised if anyone in the "Close CoH" Department over in Korea was even aware of the existence of either Nature Affinity or Bio-Armor...
To Zwill - cheers for the update, and thanks to everyone who's still beavering away at the Paragon offices. You guys have delivered a stellar product to the gaming community - the first, best, and (IMO) still unparalleled superhero MMO. No matter what happens with CoH come December 1st, no-one can take that away from you. Just as no-one can take away the community spirit and the memories this game has brought each and every one of us.
What about those of us who bought points before August 24th? I've still got a ton of points left over, probably a good 3000 at least, that I bought back in like... May or June. Am I just out all that money I threw at the game, with no chance of a refund?
These points are NOT from monthly allotments. They're points I BOUGHT, that I threw down a good $100 for. I kind of want some of my money back.

Interesting.
Seems like a tidy way to wrap up any financial obligations, which would be one step in setting up for a complete handover.

it's nice to finally hear something about refunds. I'll keep an eye on my bank account to see if/when it goes through.
All you people worried that this means the game is dead or that the "save coh" attempts have all failed - nothing has changed. Nc soft changing their mind was always the least likely occurence. The main chance the game has had since then is that nc soft will allow another publisher (or the former paragon employees themselves as a new company) to buy the game (ip, software, and all) and continue it under that new publisher's banner. And that hope has not changed by nc soft finally offering refunds, because nc soft would not be involved in the "new" coh. Keep up the fight. |
I would also appreciate an answer to the "what if a credit card changed" question or will that be in an email from the company? Our old cards were changed over at the end of August. Do I need to update my card information at plaync?

And you've got to remember, this is OFFICIALLY what is happening, and they have to proceed as such. They can't dance around pretending like it isn't while trying to work something out, they have to handle it in a proffesional manner, and that is not going to include little blurbs about how it might not end. I am sure Zwillinger would LOVE to give us details or even just say that the meetings are ongoing, but he can't, and announcements like this are important for what is going on.

Fortunately for me, my yearly sub was set to run out / renew on Sept 11th. So while I may not see a refund, or none worth waiting for anyway, at least it lets me keep VIP status throughout. That's something.
Not so fortunately, that $100 worth of points that I bought back in July is looking less wise now. I went ahead and got the bonus bundle so I could pick up a boatload of Rogues and Vigilantes packs as soon as they came out. Dunno what I'll spend 9910 points on at this stage though... maybe I'll just keep them so I can say when it went down I was "OVER 9000!!!!!"
But Z, man, thanks for all you're still doing around here. And same goes to the others that are doing things we don't always see, thank you folks. It can't be easy for you guys, and we appreciate it.
Also, count me in the camp that's saying this changes nothing about the efforts we've been putting into saving the game and/or the team. This is an official statement that had to be given, and any change we can hope to make won't affect the fact that refunds and such still have to happen. So, whatever the outcome is, I'm still in the fight. Because it's a fight worth staying in.
That would be the petition that NCSoft is still choosing to ignore, right?
Unfortunately, with today's "here's how you get your money back" announcement from NCSoft I think we can officially say that the proverbial fork has been stuck in City of Heroes. Thanks, as always, to Zwill and the rest of the team for many great years and an awesome game. -Buxley |

Thanks Z, I have 2 time card questions. I just used a 60 day time card about 2 weeks before the announcement but I threw away the actual time card and it says you need the number. Also I have 4 unused 60 day time cards still do we submit them as well?

As far as the unused ones go, I imagine you're due a refund on these, I'm not certain if they would be refunded if they're unapplied to the account.
Either way you definitely should contact Customer Support and they should be able to answer your questions.

Please answer his second question. I'm in the same situation (the credit card I used originally no longer exists) and I currently have no credit card information attached to my account. How would I go about getting the refund for my remaining 3 months now?

I have no idea on US law, but at least in my country the law is clear that if any services that are paid for and not supplied or can no longer be used for the purpose intended then the option of a full refund must be made to the customer. As I intended to use these points for future releases, I should be entitled for a full refund for any unused points, regardless of when they were purchased. I can understand the business reasons of picking a cut-off date, but only a few days? A more reasonable cut-off would be a few months.
For those who used time cards IIRC when you log onto master account on ncsofts site and check billing it shows the retail code of time cards (it does for box and digital purchases anyway) so you may check your timecards code from there. Not sure if there is anything other than that important on timecard though.

Here's a question:
As I am Canadian and the refund is presumably in USD, how is the exchange rate being calculated? There's about a 3.5 cent difference between what it was at the end of August, and what it is now, meaning that I am actually losing some money with this refund.

It will be a hellish experience getting that refund for my time...
Two accounts... Extra time... one was yearly... and brazillian credit cards dont like to get refunds... they are pesky little things... always want to grab our money, not give it back!

Thank you for your support and patience as we work to smoothly close this chapter with the sunset of the City of Heroes franchise.

And a sincere thanks to all of Paragon Studios for the great work over the years. I am sincerely disappointed in NCSoft's decision, but I appreciate that it was out of Paragon's control.

Keep up the fight.
Also, considering I was also set to renew September 1st, I REALLY you are right Zwillinger. I'd like to stay VIP through the end.
