  1. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this place was over 9000 times better for having you around, Z. If you can, let us know where you end up. Cause a lot of us are gonna wanna check that place out.

    Stay safe out there, hero.

    Seconded!

And thanks, guys. Couldn't have been easy spilling the beans like this.

... Must've been at least a little fun, though. Come on, admit it. Telling the whole story right away, without having to wait months or years to tell a little piece at a time? I'm sure the developer in you guys was and but the storyteller in you must've been all
  3. Fortunately for me, my yearly sub was set to run out / renew on Sept 11th. So while I may not see a refund, or none worth waiting for anyway, at least it lets me keep VIP status throughout. That's something.

Not so fortunately, that $100 worth of points that I bought back in July is looking less wise now. I went ahead and got the bonus bundle so I could pick up a boatload of Rogues and Vigilantes packs as soon as they came out. Dunno what I'll spend 9910 points on at this stage though... maybe I'll just keep them so I can say when it went down I was "OVER 9000!!!!!"

But Z, man, thanks for all you're still doing around here. And same goes to the others that are doing things we don't always see, thank you folks. It can't be easy for you guys, and we appreciate it.

Also, count me in the camp that's saying this changes nothing about the efforts we've been putting into saving the game and/or the team. This is an official statement that had to be given, and any change we can hope to make won't affect the fact that refunds and such still have to happen. So, whatever the outcome is, I'm still in the fight. Because it's a fight worth staying in.

Yeah, that's a pretty uncanny summary of what I've been feeling the last couple weeks too.

But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we haven't seen the last of these events yet. Time will tell I guess. Well okay, time and positive efforts on our part.

Take heart, goat creature! Our city's future may be brighter than it looked two weeks ago. We know that our efforts have been noticed, now it's a matter of keeping them up and waiting to learn what sort of difference they made.
  5. Aww man! Now I'll never know my City of Heroes Astromological Sign!

I'm really interested in seeing the changes and additions you made to powersets to better fit the tabletop style. That and how you handle fighting bigger groups of enemies all at once.

Looks like you guys have put a lot of work into this already, thanks for letting us know about it! I look forward to checking it out when testing time comes around!

We don't need them to reverse their decision. We need them to realize how good they can look in the public's eye by letting the game - and hopefully Paragon Studios in some form - continue on with another company. One that would consider CoH's level of profit desirable and worth maintaining.

Hmmm. Closest I can find is a rusted out Gremlin that can't top 30, and a bunch of knockoff iPhones.

That'll have to do. Pass me the duct tape!

I feel comfortable in saying that while I don't know if we're technically a larger playerbase, we're definitely a more motivated and dedicated one. Most of the players I've heard talking say they came/stayed here to avoid things like mandatory pvp, generic appearance, loot competition and endless grinding. We really, really don't want to have to go to one of the myriad other games that are based around those things. If this were one of those clones, it would suck to have to leave, but we'd find one of the others and be just as happy there... because in the end games like that are pretty much swappable. It's because CoH isn't like those that we stayed so long, and that's also why so many of us are staying now to fight so hard.

Another option is "/e holdtorch". That makes it seem more like a vigil, and says "strength in numbers" more than "protest".

The free bonus for optionally subscribing, which most considered trivial, is now being used by accounts that can't buy anything to help keep the game from shutting down.

I find the irony of this point to be overwhelming.

Maybe I'll post it but I've had 3 iterations of how Velocity should work exactly. Most of the powers are done but still need to figure out how Velocity should work ( I know what I want it to do, just not how it goes about doing it ).

I hope, assuming they were working on it, that they patch for what I24 would contain. Then I'd use it again, to upgrade old builds.
That would be really nice. Y'know, one day when they're a bit less busy. I think I remember them saying that all the numbers for things like powers and enhancements and such are stored in the client, and if that's the case then they have all the time in the world to get to that later.

It it my sincere hope that you get that chance, that the effort into getting City of Heroes reinstated works. I don't hold out much hope for NCSoft keeping it up and running, but my hope in it stands on the chance that some other company buys the IP and keeps it running.
Tell you what, I'd gladly team up my DP/Martial Combat with your Energy Aura tanker to run a few mishes. Any day.

And yeah, I really don't see them picking it back up either, but passing on the torch is much more likely and worth holding out hope for.

It wasn't the impression we needed, but it was the impression we deserved. (No, I have no idea what that means)

I loved that phrase. That phrase was awesome.

    - No more of those annoying Andy 'Zwillinger' Belford tangents
Hey some of those were epic. I always got a kick out of it when Z and Co. would chain a bunch of tangents together one after another until it seemed like someone offscreen was about to shout "Ultra Combo!!!"

I kept waiting for them to tangent so hard that they forgot they were on the air, and just wandered off to get lunch with the camera still running. Or for Zwill to show us a "sneak peek of something on beta", and then just rickroll us. Woulda. Been. AWESOME.

    7. Knowing that the Superspeed powerset that I just started working on a few weeks ago (prior to the announcement) will never become part of the CoH universe (it even had a mechanic called Velocity!). This would have been my first suggestion on the forums! Hahahaha
Ooh, Velocity. Sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind hearing more about that sometime

    6. Likely no more updates to Mid's Build Planner that I used to enjoy. Thanks for that app!

On a side note, I fully plan to keep using that now and then, if only to make "one of every combo". Y'know, for nostalgia and all that.

    5. The realization that I'm not going to see Energy Aura powerset proliferated to my tanker, so that I can finally reroll her as she was supposed to be made.
I hear ya. From the day she was born, shortly after Going Rogue, my DP/Energy blaster was meant to be Martial Combat. She came thaaaat close, too. *sighs*

    2. The realization that in order to get my superhero goodness on after the blackout, that I'm going to have to try a cryptic competitor but only after I take a small hiatus ( I want to see if anything happens a few months after the end).
Well for me at least, it's not that CO looks bad, because it doesn't. It looks like it has plenty of things to enjoy about it. Just... not the magic combination that this place had. That game has a slightly wrong visual style, a slightly wrong combat system, a slightly wrong atmosphere. I'll like it, but I don't see myself ever fighting to keep it from shutting down.

And the #1 reason that the NCSoft decision stings:

    1. Never more being able to say that I subscribe to the greatest superhero MMO in the WORLD!!!!!
*sighs heavily* I'm just gonna go sit over here in the corner for a while. Don't pay any attention to the little whimpering noises, they'll pass.

(Holy guacamole... this was a long post )

  17. My favorite game of all time, safe and sound on my hard drive where no-one can ever take it away again? Yes please.

And if they periodically released things like powersets and Issues as DLC, I'd pay for those too. Heck I'd log in to a marketplace occasionally just to buy things like super packs if that were an option.

I love the friends I've met over the years and would prefer it stay as is, but if the other option's no game at all then that's a no-brainer.
