Same here Slaunyeh, the auto reject reply says if your question is not answered to log into the support site and update it, but surprise surprise that site will no longer accept my login details (they still work in game and for account management however).

Everybody knows each other in some way, esp. MMO players (you won't play games alone), so... this will have an effect on NCSoft sales, be sure. When I don't play NCSoft games anymore, my friend's won't either (because it is easy to explain: NCSoft will just shut down your game when they feel like it, so all your money and time spend so far is lost). Their friends too and going on like that. That's one of the reasons why I don't understand these kind of decicions in any way, esp. like it happened now (esp. when I read here, how many ppl. were buying paragon points, as myself too - don't get it - the game made profit!). As I already wrote, if a company gives a sh.. on his customers, they will see what will happens next with them. So you're killing your own business atm. But seems NCSoft didn't realize nor understand that. It just makes sense, if they don't care anymore about the western market.

The correct way would have been:
1. Announcement, that NCSoft will sell the game to another hoster within the next 6 months.
2. Telling the customers, that everything will be transfered correctly to another hoster (all toons, all "equipment", no loss).
Be sure I would have bought other NCSoft products then.

What they did:
1. Announcement, that NCSoft will shut down the game, immediately after publishing news about a new content update (i24); that now never goes live.
2. Selling a new set and cancel the shop 10 days later.
3. You have still paragon points or bought them, because a 3th set was already announced? We give a sh..
Be sure I won't buy any NCSoft or Nexxon products anymore (nor do my friends and so on). Go dreaming about your sales. You don't care? Me either.

I Agree.

Thanks to devs, mods and fellow Paragonians (Paragoniacs?) but I am so sad right now.

Thank goodness I went back to VIP August 26th. There are many people who did what I did and fluctuated back and forth from Premium to VIP. It is ridiculous that you are not making EVERYONE VIP at this point. You are deleting the game in two months. What does it matter what content people have access to? It's not like they can buy back into it.

I am still also very unhappy as to not knowing the real reason as to why this is happening and why no alternatives to keep this game running are not being considered by NCSoft. They refuse to even discuss the opportunity for a sale to another company. Whay are they being such hardasses? I've seen the reports online showing this game was still profitable and if NCSoft considers that too small to care about, that is their option. But why be so insane as to not make a sale out of it?

I will definitely never buy another NCSoft product and will encourage everyone I know to refrain from doing so. Not so much because of the decision to shut down, but more because it reeks of some behind the scene reasoning that probably borders on collusion between companies.

You want us all to smile and go gracefully into the sunset, but that is not who we all are. Many of us do want to know that real elusive answer to WHY?

What happens if I no longer have the Credit Card that was used to make the payment for my 1 year sub? I'm not sure if this is the case, but I have a feeling that it is - I need to check my records.

Sadly, we may never know why. And, as annoying as that is (It bugs me, too) It's not really important anymore.

NCSoft has made it very clear that they have no intention of continuing the game. So now the focus becomes seeing if there's a way to convince them to sell the game to somebody else AND convincing somebody else to purchase the game.

Fortunately, the second part of that sentence is the easier one.

We have been given confirmation that the game will continue until November 30. We have time.

We're not dead yet.

Why does a Korean Fantasy Grindfest MMO company have the rights to City of Heroes, anyways? If it's not their type of game they shouldn't have picked it up. At least hand it off to someone else.

I mean seriously, NCsoft didn't even take advantage of moments like The Avengers coming out to advertise the game. Imagine the subs.

That's the part I am having the hardest time with as well. As a company diversity can be profitable. Recognizing you'll never be the best at one thing, it makes sense to be good at a variety of things. Recently, I've noticed a change or a shift in company cultures where they want to "streamline" or "realign" their structure to a "lets put all our eggs in one basket" sort of mentality and this has been going on for awhile and not just in the MMO community either.

For instance, lets say that I'm a racer and I manage a profitable company that races cars, motorcycles, and airplanes. I know I will never be number one in any of those fields. So I decide to streamline my business. Since, the airplane division doesn't make as much money as I hoped, I make a decision to only race vehicles on the ground now. It wouldn't make sense to dispose of my airplane by simply destroying it. The airplane is an asset, people enjoy watching it race, there is a community built around this plane. I need to respect that. If I sell this asset, it poses no business threat to me because I already have my "wheeled crowd" and in reality its where I have decided to focus my business culture on anyway. I will acquire money for this asset which will help me develop deeper into car and motorcycle racing while leaving the airplane community to do it's thing.

The same is true here. The Asian market is where NCSoft wants to focus...we get that. An announcement to the effect of "We at NCSoft have realigned as a company and wish to focus elsewhere. We are actively looking for a suitable replacement company to take over and continue City of Heroes. We thank you for your past business and will keep you updated as information becomes available." would've been an easier pill to swallow.

The decision to burn CoH is simply poor.

/endrant

It's nice though that some people are getting a bit of a refund and there is some direction with regards to the game closure. Kudos to Zwill and company, I know PS had a big part in the recent announcement.

I want to make sure I understand this part....I am a month-by-month VIP account. Does this mean that I will maintain my VIP status and I will no longer be billed every month?

Sorry if it is obvious to some, but its been that kind of week.

As for NCSoft: From the day CoH is no more, I will never again install so much as a single byte of NCSoft product on any PC I ever own. This is one epic f**king fail, a textbook case of how to screw customers and show an utter disregard for a solid gaming community.

It is dishonorable.
Re: Why was COH killed by NCSoft? im sorry but NCSoft is also BANNED from my wallet FOREVER.
NEVER will i touch any product from the again.
i have to agree with an earlier poster on this.

We need to make all NCSOFT's costumers and the media to know about this no-ethic behavior. After seven years of fidelity is exactly it that all they will get: one week new issue is announced; next week, developers fired and game going to shut dow! We must denunciate this conduct! It is not about COX anymore. So, no word about our petition? No one saying: "Sorry, about it...". They don't care about us, and all of us believed them, year after year. We spent our time building SG's bases, coalitions, AE mishes, market stuffs, etc. Unfortunately, looks like they don't know how we fell about our life in the Cox, how our characters mean to us. If they don't want this game anymore, just sell it! We must to demand it!

Many thanks as usual Zwillinger for performing above and beyond the call of duty !

A word to my fellow heroes: while reading this announcement initially depressed me as well, I urge you to not give up the fight for the below reason:

you are being offered a refund and not some play time on other NCSoft games like what happened when Tabula Rasa was put to death. What does it mean ?

- either that the folks at Paragon Studios are even more awesome than we knew and fought for this (possible, but I'd rather contemplate the other alternative)
- or that there is a possibility that the game will continue to exist under a different banner than the NCSoft one.

Of course, this is just a possibility and/or the denial phase of grief speaking:but that's enough for me to continue the #savecoh campaign.

I urge you to do the same. If everything fails and the game does disappear, then it will be time to explore other solutions ...

Close ranks around TonyV and keep fighting : this one is for all the marbles !

I would just like to correct this, because this is *slightly* incorrect.

Going from the web archives of the Tabula Rasa website (i had to do this to refresh my memory on what happened) this is what was offered:

Quote:
21st November 2008 17:14 Posted by Avatea
On February 28, 2009, Tabula Rasa will be shutting down its servers, and as of January 10, 2009, the game will be free to play.
To thank our loyal Tabula Rasa fans we’ve prepared a little closing down gift. Any active paying player as of 10:00 AM Pacific Time on November 21st, 2008 will be eligible for all of the following:
3 free months of City of Heroes including digital client
3 free months of Lineage II including digital client
Aion Exclusive Preview Event access (details coming soon)
Aion pre-order access (available in 2009)
1 free month of Aion including digital client (available in 2009)

These offers are limited to active paying players. Subscribers who join or reactivate cancelled accounts after 10:00 AM Pacific Time on November 21st, 2008 will not be eligible.
If you are an eligible Tabula Rasa player, you’ll be receiving notification directly from NCsoft in the near future with information on how to collect these thank you gifts.
If you are a player that has pre-paid for Tabula Rasa subscription time beyond January 10, 2009, you will be refunded for that pre-paid time by February 28, 2009.
Should you have further questions please don’t hesitate to contact our customer support team at http://eu.plaync.com/eu/help/.
From everyone at NCsoft, we’d like to thank you for the support and enthusiasm you’ve dedicated to Tabula Rasa over the last year.
Bolded the important part.

So, as you can see, they *did* actually refund game time as well. If i remember correctly, the date listed was also the date that they were going to make the game free 2 play for all, so subscriptions not required. Unfortunately, the game went free before Christmas 2008, but i believe that they refunded accordingly. I am not 100% on this 2nd part, because i was running on gametime codes that were given to me by Avatea, so I didn't have an account that was eligible for refunding.

My bad, thanks for correcting it...

Now I'm not so sure we can take this as a "neutral" sign anymore...

How will we know when the refund will be given? Will we be given a notice via e-mail or should I just check my NCSoft or my PayPal account in the coming days to check that my refund on Paragon Points was given?

Posted

What about people who bought points with pre-paid credit/gift cards? How do you plan to refund to those "original payment types"? And seriously...August 24th? I promise you I didn't spend a MINIMUM of $50.00 a month on points just so you could pull the game and my access to the items/services I paid for. I think need a refund for ALL points purchased (spend or unspent) since the beginning of "Freedom". I think this whole "here buy points, buy our stuff! Hey thanks for giving us your cash, and now you get nothing!" idea of NCsoft's is criminal, and if I don't get refunded voluntarily, I'll be happy to spearhead a class-action for everyone who purchased points. Normally, I'd just take the loss, but this is NCSoft, and we all know the popular saying regarding NCSoft. "F^%$ NCSoft".

This statement doesn't really change the current situation - it's still very important to keep the pressure on NCSoft through the media and other channels.

Is there any news about us being given server unlocks? I want to take screencaps of my characters, but many are locked after a brief Premium dalliance last year.

I petitioned to Support, and they just said they were looking to give something back to the players, which I assume meant the currently-running double XP. I responded asking if they could please unlock one particular character, and they said "not at this time."

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

I have a crazy question and I do wish someone give me the answer. If I brought paragon point and brought the nature affinity and use up all my point of stuff just at 4am. Just hours later they announced the cancelling of this game. I'm I entitled for a full refund? if so please someone walk me thru on how to get my refund back.

I double checked, it was definitely paid with a now canceled credit card.

I sent in a help ticket to see if they can apply the refund to the credit card I currently have on file or to PayPal.

Well, I took Zwill's advice and sent in a ticket regarding a refund issue. The "cut & paste" reply is still the same one they've been sending since the announcement. And they also advise (in big bold red letters) that there will be no further reply to my ticket. They are NOT helping.
