Discussion - Player Services Status Update 9/18/2012
Thank you, Zwill, for hanging around and answering people's questions.

I can assure you I did NOT handle it as well as you are, Zwill,
Things to remember:
-Common sense ain't;
-Overkill is the only kill;
-If someone asks if you're a god, run away.
And Zwillinger, I really appreciate your efforts. I'm really frustrated right now, but it's not directed at the messenger.
Elsegame: Champions Online: @BellaStrega ||| Battle.net: Ashleigh#1834 ||| Bioware Social Network: BellaStrega ||| EA Origin: Bella_Strega ||| Steam: BellaStrega ||| The first Guild Wars: Kali Magdalene ||| The Secret World: BelleStarr (Arcadia)
I see this as encouraging.
Historically, NCSoft offered gametime for shuttered project game subscriptions. This is a change for them. They listened.
They may still be listening.
Zwillinger:
Thank you for this information, and for your continuing efforts on our behalf. You're awesome.

Actually, they'd have to do this no matter what happens - the whole billing and account system is integrated into the wider PlayNC system, so for either a shut down or a sale, they'd still have to separate them.

hopefully there will be some better news later this week
Andy, there are no words to describe how lucky we are to have you.
And no words to describe the LOATHING I feel for the Korean executives over you at the phrasing they seem to have rammed down your throat. I can say no more without making things worse for you; so I'm shutting up now.
Thanks Z
Hope to see all of the CoH players and devs in some other game universe.

I haven't been able to find any answer to this, but it's possible I missed it. If so, I apologize, and thank any repliers for their help. Does the refunding of money spent on Paragon Points mean we'll have those points removed? I have a lot of points sitting on my account, and I'm wondering if I should go cash them all in tonight, or if I can save them for the rest of the remaining time to pick up enhancements or costumes as I decide I need them. Still got some good play time left before Nov 30th, and I would be happier having the points until I find better purchases, rather than impulse ones tonight.
Hey Zwill,
On on a monthly billing cycle... So My next bill date was 9/20... so does that mean I WONT get charged for another month, and I will still be VIP?
Should I go ahead and click "cancel billing" just to make sure I dont get charged again? or will that leave a possibility iw ill lose VIP status?

My first "turning point" in this city was during the Rularuu Invasion, and charging in with my BS/Regen Scrapper. Skyway City, at Level 10. It went...poorly.
I hope the Ncsoft burns in the hell!
Well, while I've still got a chip on my shoulder over the whole ongoing Closing-of-CoH-Thing; I've gotta say that refunds is probably the best news I could have hoped for, short of "Our mistake, fired the wrong dev team and threatened to close the wrong game. Whoops, our bad."
Seriously, I was dreading the potential "Sorry, no refunds, but here's some credit towards other NCsoft games/NCcoin" announcement. And while this may be a nail in the decision reversing coffin, it is by no means a sign that all preservation initiatives are dead.
So, best possible expected announcement so far. A little peeved that it took two-and-a-half weeks to make this announcement, but I suppose a corporate bureaucracy operates much like a government one. Gotta conduct a survey to determine the correct/best course of action, file plenty of paperwork, wait for people to sign off on the paperwork...
"My inner mind has become a reality-cracking overgod. He torments me! Help!"
Z: You are a stand-up guy. Thank you.
NCSoft: The fact that you have now promised to return money to people that gave it to you in good faith - and that you accepted knowing that you would not provide them with the product and service you promised - does not make your actions right or forgivable; it simply means that pressure has shamed you into not being a bald thief.
I do wish I hadn't blown $100 on points at the beginning of August in anticipation of impending powersets and such. Guess those 1600 bonus points aren't such a great deal anymore, huh?
Sad thing is, If I was able to apply those points to the various powersets on live until Nov, I probably wouldn't bat an eye at the expense :/ Oh well.
Dear NCsoft, if you go through with this shutdown you've guaranteed you'll not see another dime from me on any project you put out, ever.

However, I will say this. NCSoft, go [censored] yourself, go [censored] long and hard with a splintery 2x4 set on fire wrapped with rusty barbed wire. This here has confirmed one thing, I will never, ever, ever touch a NCSoft product, ever. I'm sure the higher ups are saying it's only one guy, but go [censored] yourself NCSoft and you will never see my money, ever.

Everybody knows each other in some way, esp. MMO players (you won't play games alone), so... this will have an effect on NCSoft sales, be sure. When I don't play NCSoft games anymore, my friend's won't either (because it is easy to explain: NCSoft will just shut down your game when they feel like it, so all your money and time spend so far is lost). Their friends too and going on like that. That's one of the reasons why I don't understand these kind of decicions in any way, esp. like it happened now (esp. when I read here, how many ppl. were buying paragon points, as myself too - don't get it - the game made profit!). As I already wrote, if a company gives a sh.. on his customers, they will see what will happens next with them. So you're killing your own business atm. But seems NCSoft didn't realize nor understand that. It just makes sense, if they don't care anymore about the western market.
The correct way would have been:
1. Announcement, that NCSoft will sell the game to another hoster within the next 6 months.
2. Telling the customers, that everything will be transfered correctly to another hoster (all toons, all "equipment", no loss).
Be sure I would have bought other NCSoft products then.
What they did:
1. Announcement, that NCSoft will shut down the game, immediately after publishing news about a new content update (i24); that now never goes live.
2. Selling a new set and cancel the shop 10 days later.
3. You have still paragon points or bought them, because a 3th set was already announced? We give a sh..
Be sure I won't buy any NCSoft or Nexxon products anymore (nor do my friends and so on). Go dreaming about your sales. You don't care? Me either.
Hah, so I did contact support for additional information in light of this post, and got the same auto-response "this is to be determined. Watch the forums for any official updates" that others have posted in the past couple of weeks.
Someone should update their support ticket auto-reject system.
Thought for the day:
"Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment."

Zwill thanks for being awesome. I wish you goodness, health and prosperity all of your days.
As for NCSoft: From the day CoH is no more, I will never again install so much as a single byte of NCSoft product on any PC I ever own. This is one epic f**king fail, a textbook case of how to screw customers and show an utter disregard for a solid gaming community.
It is dishonorable.
Prepare for Queer justice.
