    In COX, ya locked into that set and power choices in set roles in set builds.
    Funny because whatever I do I can't win in CO like how I did in CoH. True it has more variety but that is unrelated with combat it is about how class system works in both games if we could get any power with limitations similiar to CO's than could you say samething again? Also true you can be all of those albeit you will be a useless character in most of those things due to stats limitations.
  2. Everyone to their own I guess. For me combat and graphics were two things that keep me coming back to CoH (other than community) I tried other games actuallt I think I tried almost all big names except GW2, DCUO and Tera.

    Closest thing I can even remotly stand for is TSW's combat style and that is thanks to 7 passive powers (at least it was 7 when I stopped playing but once CoH is closed for good I plan to move to TSW). along with tab-targetting. If I wanted to play an online FPS than I would play an online FPS not an MMORPG but like I said all to their own.

    For graphics CoH was making me feel like playing a fun game with its graphics not a comic book or a lame 3D animation which tries to be 'realistic' so called advancement in graphics in other games IMO killed the graphics of games altogether so 'outdated' graphics of CoH was just right for me.

    Did people quit the game over that? Hell yes.

    That is why there is the Star Wars Galaxies Emu project up and running, to bring back the *original* experience of the game, and not the more "up to date" version.
    Yes I forgot this but emu project actually has some IP so Sony sold them or rented them something I don't know how much but i think as long as it is not engine related they can use it which makes this case even more a bad example since NCSoft is not even intend to sell IP so giving it as an example of why people are not boycotting Sony but Ncsoft fails on so many front.

    So? If you felt that LucasArts screwed you over, with the NGE, with shutting down SWG, or even with those awful freaking prequel movies (that's where *I* stopped spending any money at all on anything Star Wars - a friend had to buy SWTOR for me to get me to try it because I refuse to give Lucas one more thin dime for taking such a giant, hairy dump on my childhood) then it would be reasonable to NOT buy SWTOR because you don't trust/like LucasArts anymore.
    First you are wrong about one thing. Both SWG and SWTOR are sci-fi oriented MMO's which utilises magic in form of force so genre is same while GW2 is fantasy oriented while CoH is superhero no relation at all. Second both SWTOR and SWG is in same universe in different timelines GW2 has its own universe so does CoH. For these two points both SW games can be counted as successor/predecessor while vast difference between CoH and GW2 makes it a vvey long shot in a galaxy far away.

    Third approach by companies makes the difference both Lucas and Sony kept game over 8 years despite having a big failure like NGE didn't closed it on a whim and they let emu project to have some sort of IP to prduce old game on their own. NCSfot cut the game like a hot knife on butter and don't inted to give IP in any form away. You may have agrudge against Lucas or Sony just like we are having a gainst NCSoft but calling them same is outragous.

    Sigh why people so eager to give this false example in this situation after all this time I wonder.

    First: It was not Sony that cut off Sw Galaxies it was Lucas Arts to prevent collision with SWTOR. They simply didn't renew their IP license with Sony and let game die rather gloriously.

    Second People who were playing SW galaxies were mostly made up from Starwars fans (those who cared for game mechanics and such itself already left after NGE if not as early as CU) so unlike in CoH's case which we loved the game itself and not the company behind it, they were actually loving the base product.

    Third which is related to second SWG was closed only after SWOTR entered its final stage and was ready as a successor so the community eventhough in a different form got what they loved from the parent company AKA Lucas Arts.

    In our case;

    First There is no successor to CoH around and by successor I mean a game that is in same universe with some form resemblence. Unlike in SWG's case if NCSoft jsut sit on IP we can't get a successor like SWTOR in any form legally.

    Second Most of community was here becuase of CoH in general (not because of they are NCSoft fans) not just as base product but also its mechanics and such. There is no other game slightly resembles mechnaics in CoH neither its stories

    What you are comparing is not even apples and pears it is more like comparing apples with fish totally on different dimensions and planes on their owns.
  5. I think NCSoft thoughthat they can't war with newly arriving Marvel MMO (I doubt they checked what kind of game it is they just knew marvel was releasing something to do with MMO) with all the movies and such they though CoH will not have any chance along with other secret reasons it was a good time like any to cancel game.

    For outselling WoW. Superhero genre probably can't do that. Other than USA and some European contries Superhero genre is not popular. Most of world knows marvel and DC and again most countries don't have any ongoing superhero genre on their own. But all countries have some sort of myths and fantasies that is fantasy genre is more popular than any (and yes sci-fi is also limited though not as much as superhero genre).

    WoW's advantages that CoH didn't had;

    1) Blizzard was already a successful company and had a good fanbase in both USA, europe and Asia. Only company that comes close to this is Bioware but their products are have less impact on Asian market.

    2) Blizzard was releatively recently released their mew Warcraft expansion and was successful in seeling game so it would fit to continue story. If they released any other game as MMO (like Diablo or Starcraft) it may have been successful but not a big hit as Warcraft (Diablo 2's ending was like an ending of all so continuing from there maynot good for starcraft there was a long gap and like I said fantasy genre is more accepted than any)

    3) Blizzard didn't make any partnership with any other company they both produced and distributed WoW which means there was less paperwork when trying to make some decisions.

    4) Time was good not only because there were less MMO's but people already got bored what is out there and were searching for something new. It is debatable CoH had same advantage but WoW came out after a few other fantasy oriented MMO's CoH was first and only superhero one at that time.

    5) For 5 or 6 years (until Starcraft 2 released) Blizzard literally poured all of their power into WoW and this is something. We are talking about a studio that manage to get all kind of movie-stars to play in their advertisement. Blizzard took a gamble by pouring everything they have into WoW and be rewarded for that.

    There are a few other points but these are IMO major points.

Task forces as they are now, just don't feel any different from regular contacts.
    This was what that keep me returning to CoH since I hate outdoor missions because they were usually hunt missions (do x of y) be it either mobs, contacts or glowies. It will be what I miss when I am trying other games becuase there is almost no other game left with this feature.
  7. I will not miss;

    Non-treparent map. Seriously because of map I lost count of times I stuck on enviroment indoor missions because I can't really use a map that is small and all other palces on my interface was filled with something else.

    Stucking on enviroment at indoor missions. Especially with superspeed it goes beyond annoying.

    Hybrid incarnate power. This maybe only thing that I will not just miss but I wish to be obliterated totally. Infact if game is somehow saved and people start working on it I wish they consider to get rid of this particular piece of .... and replace it with something else.
  8. I dont remember calculations at top of my head but situation is like this iirc; Degens -max hp also lowers amount of regen done at each tick. Rougly on pylon degens equivalent to resistance debuff is %3.25 or %3.5 and this is without resistance debuff. While reactives %2.5 resistance debuff is further more cut down by resistance itself and drop it to %2 for each stack.

    Their DoT's are close to each other. Do not have exact numbers but degen having lesse hp to bring down and lesser hp pylon regenerate each tick makes it degens victory for scrappers at least since critical damage means doubling the effect. It may not turn out same with another AT or even another combination of sets since katana is one of faster sets with an avarage damage on each attack (or a little over avarage in my case since all three attacks have 50+5 purple sets or purple ATO sets).

    EDIT: Calculation done before by someone else in another reactive vs degen thread on scrapper forums a little search will find it. Also want to add that I had second ATO set on gamblers cut when I did those runs and that sets proc gives +%50 critical chance for a short time and let me tell you I was seeing alot of critical strike red floating text since I could run katanas top attack chain withoutinterruption GC-GD-GC-SD. With first ATO set's proc it means %71 crit chance time to time on GD and %66 on SD.

    Interesting news

    Well I liked rf online except the part that leveling curve was a little high and people were not team friendly except 8 hours of FvFvF mayhem. I actually liked the mining part of game at least when I was sleeping I could leave computer on to get lots of good stuff in the morning (I was doing that at SWG to get my master dancer and than i was doing it to get money anyway) also there was autommted mining tools in the real money shop last time I checked it. I joined into FvFvF eventhough my level was too low there was still something I could do (geeting a greanade launcher that launches debuffs and CC rounds) heck once I manage to steal one of chips and run back to mining station in the confusion of two other factions fighting.

    Also there mining is a little differen than how Atlantea sounded like. There was 3 mining areas each faction has a safe spot with a mining speed of like 1 piece for every 10 second (times are purely for example but rates are something like this) second place is closer to mine area but is at an open PvP area and there are PvE mobs that are patroling areas even if you can find a spot that is not in the line of patrols anyone from other two faction can come and attack you these places had double the time of previous one 1 piece for 5 second or something like that.

    Third area was the reason for FvFvF at each 8 hours whoever gains control can mine thereand rate is lie 1 piece for 1 second (its rate was considerably high to give a reason to people to join the FvFvF regardless of level) Despite not a PvP person myself I was having fun at FvFvF'sand eventhough my level was sucking I was joining.

    I plan to give it another chance after 30th nov and will see how much it was improved or degenerated.

    Interesting news

    I wanted to share this while looking for my old MMO's. This game had so much potential but got shut down because of lack of content before if its leveling curve was a little better it could be easily one of my favorites and still in my top 5. Interesting part is after 4 years it is revived again hopefully we will have a similiar story in a couple of years.

    http://mmo-play.com/rpg-games/rf-onl...ine-na-servers
  11. It will depend on method how it is saved actually. IF another big names buy the game than I will be getting in the line for longest subscription possible after that to show my gratitude for first year I will be buying anything from market of said publisher as long as they have a market monthly with a good sum for a personal use.

    If game is saved by efforts of TonyV and Titan networks efforts than I will donating previously mentioned amount and probably more constantly to their effort to keep game alive.

    In either case however unless they find a way to get paragon studios too and the engine license from Cryptic/PWE it means a couple of years at least development time. In that case I will be providing donations whoever got their hands on CoH as long as my financial situation lets me to do so only other hobby I have that eats my financial resources is MTG and I rarely plays it anymore.

    There were not a lot of options for number 1, and when a couple came along they didn't do 2 & 3 as well as this game (which is pretty sad, given that I found the gameplay here to be merely "tolerable"). One of those has improved to the point where if it had been like it is now when it launched it would've been a tough decision for me to stick with this game, despite a few ongoing frustrations.
    For 1 there is only two games that are specifically superhero themed mmo (CO and DCUO) and one more which you have been considered to an extent to a superhero ingame by some NPC (TSW) there maybe more for second ones but it is hard to say.

    For 2 among three previous option only one comes close to CoH it has a steady addition of options as well but most options are money shop gated (you can convert a type of ingame currency to money shops but it is more grinding oriented)

    For 3 among three options all have their own way and for some people it maybe tolerable while not for others. I find TSW's controls fairly easy and maybe closest to CoH among three (actually I find it a little better than CoH but that is my opinion), if there was not block mechanics CO's controls are similiar to TSW (or considering release dates TSW's controls are similiar to CO's) not sure about DCUO but considering it is made console friendly I doubt it will be an easy conversion to count as a tolerable gameplay unless you were already accustomed to third-person shooting games in consoles.
  13. I was playing in defiant we never had a big group of players to begin with and at server merge some moved over to freedom or virtue but I never felt once the server I was playing depleted. We had a global channel where we talk about anything and was forming teams for specific contents. We had incarnate trial runs every night except sundays which was saved for Mothership raids. I could level my newly made low levels fairly easily with teams mostly in DfB up to 15ish than doing ingame content. Never saw a snoobish vet and for noobs this game is easy enough to carry a team if there is one or two other people who knows what they are doing.

    I was upset in first day of announcement I was not able to believe what I was reading. I didn't cry like most but I was close and probably I will cry once game is really closed. I signed petitions and keeping a good amount of money for donations once things are become more clear about how to approach to ressurrect this game. Currently I am playing CO because I haad a lifetime sub for it since beta. I will check Wildstar online once it came out but not keeping my hope high since they axe down CoH means it is next on the line if their attemt with BS does not make a good profit.
  14. I did comparision on pylons for degen and reactive for both tier 4 of each in beta a while back my results on 5 pylon each were like %75 DoT reactive is far better than %25 DoT reactive, %25 DoT degen was slightly better than %75 DoT reactive and %75 DoT degen was considerably better than %25 DoT degen.

    So for a comparision %75 DoT degen > %25 DoT degen >= %75 DoT reactive >>> %25 DoT reactive.

    These tests were done with both scrapper ATO with a katana/SR scrapper before hybrid was released on beta. I did 5 pylon for each and got avarage values to get rid of chance value with scrappers and i can say that crit chances effects alot since there were more than 30 seconds aprt from best and worst values in all four runs but I remember that %75 DoT reactives best time was still worse than %75 DoT degens worst time. This was on pylon however and pylons have %20 resistance to all damages which means reactives debuff is cut by %20 for each stack.
  15. For those who used time cards IIRC when you log onto master account on ncsofts site and check billing it shows the retail code of time cards (it does for box and digital purchases anyway) so you may check your timecards code from there. Not sure if there is anything other than that important on timecard though.

At the same time although the graphics were simple the art was top notch meaning that the game itself still looked very good.

    This is a lesson that I think many game companies really need to learn (although not Paragon Studios, they clearly understand it). Good graphics does not mean good art and good art will cover up poor graphics a lot better than good graphics cover up poor art.
    Well Ultima Online and some other MMO at that time had simpler graphics than WoW but they were not as colorful as WoW. Actually I don't know any other MMO at that time had that colorful graphics except CoH and to a degree SWG. There was 10six but I think it was on the verge of closure by the time WoW was launched and it was more like a strategy MMO.

    Odlly one of thing I couldn't stand WoW was graphics. After playing SWG for a couple of years and newly started at CoH I couldn't stand WoW's cartoonish feeling, controls and mostly its limitations on class/race combinations. I never get the feeling of progress of my character in WoW though admitedly I (could) only (being able to stand up to) play up to level 14 for two weeks of first free month than gave game to a friend.

    Rather than graphics I think advertisement had a big impact. There was already a loyal die-hard fan group of Blizzard but there was also seperate fans of Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo and almost all of those were waiting for their MMO. Considering playing SC in Korea counts as a job and infact my talk with a friend at Korea revealed that if you are sucking at playing SC girls are not dating with you (you should be at least better than the girl that you wanna date) in high school tells alot where most of Bliizards success appeared. With only setting story in a medieval setting they not only get the Asian market but maange to keep West in their grasp too.
  17. How blizzard manage to stay in business is an interesting story IMHO. After WoW's launch for almost 4 years all of Blizzards resources were directed to that single game. Blizzard was both developer and distributor of many of its titles and this gave them more freedom than many think.

    Taking Blizzard as an example and trying to follow its footsteps while trying to do with divided resources is a ....... hmm not any noninsulting words come to my mind for this so I will skip that.

    Secondly Blizzards game was what Asians like a grindfest for better equipments over and over again. Especially in Korea people are playing games as pro's and earning their life from that much like MTG pro's. For west however it was a continuation of an original works story. This is also what sets one of Blizzards success instead of using a well-known title they used their own original product and without any licensing problem they can add anything they want into game and story.

    Thirdly compared to other games that were around WoW started rather simple no big character generation (There was SWG and CoH and god knows what else that you can practically create your character as you wish even if it is not equipment base) no complex character progress (Ultima Online, SWG, CoH and some others had vast selection for character progression even some were gated behind class/race etc the choices had enough variety) very colorful enviroment (When I first saw WoW I was thinking that I am playing a cartoon game) including Blizzards die-hard fanbase game quickly spread around like a fire in both people who want to spent time with their die-hard fan friends and it draw younger audience with being simple and having colorful enviroment.

    On the topic: Only title I am waiting is Wildstar but I don't keep my hopes high especially if BS is imported to west than it needs extra cash from somewhere and from what I see carbine is next in the line. After all canceling a game before its launch is far more easier than what they are doing to CoH.
  18. My billing was canceled and last day was 10 sept. I am still VIP so I assume canceling billing does not end your VIP at the moment.
  19. I know both quests and they are both hard ones that people usually got stuck because it requires either out of normal thinking (that golden girl one was out of boundaries for example) or a good amount of investigation (manticore one is a good example of what kind of investigation you need to do to solve a quest in this game). Game is filled with quests that are both fun and hard if you want to solve them yourselves. However you can find almost all quests walkthroughs in many sources including youtube.
  20. Currently I amtrying CO for various reasons.

    1) and most important one is I have lifetime sub since launch in CO so even if it turns out bad I can give it a rest and check later on.

    2) as important as first one. Their community is welcoming especially those in CoX channel are helping alot eventhough there is not much teaming going on.

    3) It is PUG friendly just like CoH. True in some alerts you may fail depending on teams structure but it is fun most of the time and I yet to get yelled in any channel for being noobish

    4) Its new fuse and mod system is interesting although I hate hunting items in most games what makes it interesting is that items does not change your apperance and it is a big plus.

    5) Currently it is only game that I know, you can in someway make your character as you like (both apperance and powers etc). I am sure there are others but either they are old games or fantasy games which neither appeal to me. Closest one (and probably better) should be Eve Online but I don't like just controlling a vehicle instead of character I made.

    6) and probably one of selling points for me that it does not require voice over. I hate voice over with a passion it kills game atmosphere for me and trying to get through other people dialect is a hastle that is not happen in texting.

  22. With all respect for what you are trying to do Tony. I think this situation is more like how Brutus was one of backstabbers of Caesar and when Caesar saw him saying "You too? Trying is keyword in here and that is only because game looks both interesting and different enough to make my wondering overwhelm my anger.

    Actually it was not Sony that pull the plug off SWG (well they did with NGE 7 years ago but that is another story and one of rumors was a dev who left studio actually had the IP of skill system of SWG) it was Lucas Arts that withdraw their StarWars licensing for the sake of SWTOR and quiet frankly if bioware could manage to brought a good MMO (it is a good single player game but not even an avarage MMO) I would support that decision but instead both Bioware and EA rushed to release game and we all know the result. I may play SWTOR when it goes to free depending on what they will put in free content but that is about all.
