Would starting from scratch affect your decision to continue to play?

I'd love to make this a poll, but can't find how, so I'll just ask.

If all your characters were deleted, your veteran status, everything (even forum posts), and you had to start from scratch, would you still continue to play this game, or would it be too much of a setback?

Depends on how other things were handled. I'm an alt-oholic, so it's not like I'd mind having to make new characters.

But all of the various powers I've picked up along the years that my level 1 characters get sure make the low levels easier. I don't know if they'd be a total game-changer or not, but they are nice.

I've rerolled my entire roster (except my two 50s to keep the VEATS and EATS open) several times - usually when reorganising them across the servers, so no... wouldn't be a problem.

Doesn't Steelclaw restart every six months? Or is it every issue? Or when there's a y in the month, or...

_guh_. Maybe if a ton of points for the market were included, so that we could get a start slotting SBEs. Starting from scratch with absolutely nothing would be horrifyingly slow.

If it was the only option, starting from scratch is far superior to no game at all.

(Plus I'm not that into "End Game" stuff as it was).

You mean the chance to create ANOTHER 700 alts?

How do you think I'm going to vote on that?

.....Ditto.

As of today, I would not start over totally from scratch. The game continuing in any form is a long shot at best, and if somehow it works out that it does but we need to start over, then whoever ends up running it would have to convince me they were in it for the long haul before I would change my mind.

It might. There is no question in my mind that a lot of why I still play is my attachment to my original characters. At least two of these characters are basically as old as the game, and one is only a couple of months older than that. Losing them completely, with all their various forms of accumulated progress (being 50, badges, Incarnates, various merit hoards, and Inf) would be a huge, huge barrier to me.

I would be insanely happy if CoH survived in some form, but it is entirely possible that losing my main characters would represent a loss of inertia that would mean I never really got back into it. The game definitely means more to me than just playing those characters, but playing them is a huge part of why I've stayed so long.

If it was because they made a new game with a new engine, I definitely would not mind. But even if it weren't a new game, I'd say maybe. I think one of the things that held me back on re-rolling characters was the baggage (especially limited-time badges).

Wouldn't matter to me one bit. Give me enough time and I'll get 'em all back to where they were. So long as I kept access to all my unlocked costume elements and powersets, I can make it all back again. Hell, almost every character I touched in recent years got rerolled, or at the very least massively respecced.

Hell, if we have to start over, I say slap on permanent Patrol Experience (i.e. boost experience gains by 50% across the board) and just roll with it. I'd have a jolly good time, myself.

While I would be sad to lose some of the alts I have (some since the very start that I still play) , if it meant being able to continue playing this game I'd be able to live with starting them over again (maybe actually selecting the correct combo of powers instead of "sure I'' level up a bit before I make up my mind...level 40...hmmm this secondary jsut doesnt sit right....).

I alt a LOT and only once have I had a 'main', so it wouldn't bother me at all.

Honestly, in some ways, I think it would be refreshing to start over from scratch, as long as it's the whole game starting over as one. I would have never done it on my own while the game was still alive and status quo, but if everyone has to start over, it might actually be kinda cool.

That too. I have a lot of characters who were of only a SLIGHTLY wrong AT/Powerset combo and too high a level for me to fix, mostly from before GR when I had to stick to the ATs each side provided. Some I rerolled when the change was big, but going from, say, a Sword/Shield Brute to a Sword/Shield Scrapper probably isn't worth rerolling a level 50 character. Starting from scratch will let me "fix" all of the ones I wouldn't have messed with otherwise.

And consider something else. In the days before the notice of foreclosure, we discussed the notion of Range/Armour ATs. A lot of my old Blasters that I made were designed to be this, but I have since rerolled them as other ATs. Were such an AT to come out (if the game were still alive), I'd be very unlikely to reroll them AGAIN. If my character list were wiped, though... Yeah, I'd start them in the "right" AT. Of course I would.

Starting from scratch isn't a bad thing. Character levels can be regained, plus I think it would shed new light on progress speed now that everyone isn't sitting on a dozen 50s. The only thing I care about is stuff not related to characters, like badges and costume pieces.

Ugh...

I'd hate to start all over. I'd hate to lose badges that are specific to times like the Anniversary Events. (One of my 50s has ALL of the Anniversary badges!)

And of course there's the issue with veteran powers and unlocks.

Even so. The concepts and costumes of my various characters and their backstories are saved or copied elsewhere. And it's the concepts and associated looks of the characters that are important.

So I could start again if needed. If it meant the game survived and I could still play and eventually regain all of the progress I had made. Especially since I would be leveling with my friends.

Still. Not my first choice by a long way.

If we lose everything - including account stuff? Probably not. I'd rather not buy costume pieces and the such all over again. Just characters? I'd stay but I would most likely play more casually than before.

Well, losing EVERYTHING to start from sratch wouldn't be for sure my ideal scenario, yet, I'd do it, this game is too good and worth the effort.

Who knows, maybe a fresh start would bring back some of the feeling from back in the day when I started playing this, my 1st MMO.-

I wouldn't mind...

Would also mean a better chance to grab the names I actually wanted... Like Condor Azul being just Condor, for example :P

As long as we have the game and we can keep together as a community, then that is what matters, the rest... we are awesome! we'll be rocking the i-trials in less than a month.

It'd suck but I'd do it. Everything I have now can be earned again.

Would starting over affect my decision? Depends.

With the onslaught of new powers since Freedom, I've been re-rolling many characters anyway. But losing my vet benefits would hurt, ain't gonna lie. Many of my characters have wings and trenchcoats. And as a solo player, I'm pretty dependent on Sands of Mu & the Blackwand. But would losing those keep me from playing the game? Not really.

Losing all the powers/costumes/etc that I've purchased, however, would be a bigger problem. But that's a bridge I'd cross when I came to it.

I would probably not play. Not because I don't want to do it again, but these days, I don't have the free time that I did when I started the game in 2006.

I have done it before when I created a US account but without those handy vet rewards and influence when I needed it? Yes I would play but I would miss those. That and some characters that I am really fond of.
