Would starting from scratch affect your decision to continue to play?

Iiiiiiiii don't know, the idea of loosing all that i've worked for on my main, friends etc would be a nightmare, but if it was to save the game with a good future in it.. i'd rather have that then nothing, i can always track down my friends again

Sorry, I would not start over. There are several factors, one being I worked really hard on my characters and currently do not have the time to redo all of that work. If it were a new game, yes. Same game, no. Unless I can keep what I already have then my time in CoH ends November 30.

It seems to me that if that was the only choice, a binary "start from scratch or don't play at all" then I'd go with it. Of all my toons - only Scarlet would be really missed but I'd live with that.

In the grand scheme of things, it's a small price to pay, right?

Would it be annoying if I had to start entirely over? Yeah. I remember how painful some of the low levels for my characters were. (Particularly my Stone/Stone Tanker, who had severe Endurance issues up until, oh, getting his Alpha Slot opened and slotted)

But would I do it? Yes. In a heartbeat.

I'd probably recreate some of my "main" characters with slightly different powersets (my Stone/Stone/Energy Tanker would probably become a WP/Stone/Earth to help with those Endurance issues and to make him more maneuverable, and my Elec/Invuln Brute might become Elec/Elec because I like Electric Armor but never got an EA character to 50) to make the playthrough a little different, but I'd definitely still be playing.

Let me put it this way: I was playing semi-regularly when I was out of work and the only way I could play was to create an entirely new trial account every two weeks. That's how much I like this game. (I'm probably the reason they dropped the trial time to one week after Going Rogue)

I'd miss the Vet attack powers, but I didn't have them the first time I leveled Thunder Glove, Dr. Bodog, or Sgt. Greenstone up, so I wouldn't miss them that much.

Would our saved costume files still work?

Nah, even that wouldn't effect my love for the game. I'm constantly running up new characters anyway.

I would still play, without reservation.

I love the characters I have made but I have deleted my main quite a few times and started from scratch. I like being able to play through different storylines, play new powersets/at's so this is just another way of doing it (with the benefit that if the character has my global name I am more invested in getting it to 50/ pimping it out).

Honestly, I see a lot of people say how much it'll hurt to lose all that "work" they put into their characters but... To me, that's kind of the point. As the game is right now, far too many people have far too much invested in it, to the point where either I invest to keep up (as seen by the increased Incarnate to-hit), or I trail far behind. Starting over would, at least for a time, bring back at least a little bit of how the game felt back at the start, back when it was just a simple little game without any real time-sinks.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I kind of feel that starting over might do the game good. As someone mentioned, it'll mean more teaming in the low levels, and without a huge cadre of level 50 characters to skew everything, we might actually appreciate "end game" content a little bit more.

I'm with the others. It's City of Heroes. Starting over is what we do here.

No problem - I enjoy the game whatever the level. I roll alts for fun not because it is a chore. Starting from scratch is fine.

Starting over would allow me to redo Delgran as a Merc/Time or a Merc/Nature. It might be a bit of a pain to work all of my masterminds back to their former glory, but it'd be worth it if it meant I got to keep on playing past November 30th.

It'd probably suck a bit at first. But I could probably roll with it.

Hyperstrike would sure as hell be much more well-rounded contact-wise than he is.

As for Inf, I can make that all day, every day (and ten times as much on Sunday evening!).

if *everything* was blanked out, and we had to restart...

Not sure, i am on the fence for this one. It would definitely make the game interesting though, as WW/BM would be pretty bare for a long time... so builds would become interesting.

Not sure that I would play again *as i did* in the past again.. the vet powers have become almost *too* handy for combat chains on the support characters.

Would probably bounce back and forth, it would all depend on how the teaming situation was. If the teaming was poor, i would probably *not* stay for long... if teaming was prevailant... i would stick around. Server populations would pay a major decider on this one.

For me, it really depends on what "scratch" means.

If all server data was wiped, including account unlocks and such?

I would be a little hesitant. I can remake and play my stable of characters easy, I have their proportions and costume pieces down to memory, and I'm not a huge stickler on builds, most of the time picking which power I think I need as I level, leaving me with a customized character that shows their scars and hardships from their journey. But I cannot think of a single costume on a single character of mine that doesn't use an unlocked costume piece, and many of my mains use purchased powersets. And that feels like a deal breaker for me. Having to pour as much money as I already have into this game again to get even remotely to what I have ~now~?

I'm left with trepidation that I would not continue playing if that were the case.

Yes, I would. I've run 2 VIP accounts (1 for 8 years, 1 for 4 years) and 1 Free account to feel what that experience was like.

Oh yeah.. 447 alts.. I've started from scratch quite a few times.. only 18 of em are 50s. And I even play low levels w/o using the Vet powers just to see if I can still handle em the old way!

I would be fine with a reboot, especially if some changes are made to streamline the game.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time improving my main character, expensive IOs and Incarnate abilities, but none of it was "work". It's a game, it was "play". And I'd do it again, maybe with an all new character.

I already did it. Moved BZB the scrapper to another server and made BZB the brute on Pinnacle. It wouldn't be an issue to do it again. The real question is what kind of game this will be after a reboot.

Be well, people of CoH.

If it were just the inf and badges, and stuff, no prob. But if I had to completely restart the vet reward tree, and lose ALL of my unlocked costume pieces- vet pieces including the T9 sets no longer offered, and all of the costume sets I've purchased, that would really suck. Now, if they started off fresh- with ALL the in game costumes we already have as free parts, and other things in the vet system, and completely new things in the market, that would be different.

Actually, that would be great. I love starting a toon from scratch with no inf, no nothing and earning a billion by level 50.

The game is not about the destination, but the journey.

If it was the only option to keep the game, I'd take it.

I'd stay, though losing all of my veteran rewards would be annoying. I might not stay if I lost the various powersets I'd purchased though, particularly if they remained in the game and the only way to get them was to purchase them again. I would hope that if for some reason all of the data on who had bought what was lost, then all of the permanent purchases like new power sets, costumes, and extra enhancement slots would be given to everyone rather than forcing those who had bought them to repurchase.
