I would still play, without reservation.
I love the characters I have made but I have deleted my main quite a few times and started from scratch. I like being able to play through different storylines, play new powersets/at's so this is just another way of doing it (with the benefit that if the character has my global name I am more invested in getting it to 50/ pimping it out). -
I know it would never happen but I would like to see the type of origin enhancements you use effect your character. Almost as if every character started off as a blank slate and was able to buy DO's/SO's of any origin.
I haven't thought this through so dont yell at me but the game could look at the percentage of each type you have and give you a mild origin related buff accordingly
Say you had only Natural SO's/DO's you might get a 5% damage buff because your training had made you stronger. 100% mutation might give you a 5% end recharge boost. If you had 100% Magic enhancements you might get a wand aoe power, like the black wand.
You would be able to mix and match but the overall percentage would effect the buffs, higher rewards for staying true to one type but say you had 50% natural and 50% mutation you mught get a 2%damage buff and 2% end boost. Like I say this is just off the top of my head, it could give you another temp power instead or actually charge up the origin power you get at lvl 1 to make it more effective, from single target to cone to aoe... slotting different origin types would unlock their starting power.
I wouldnt want it to be anything that changes the game radically but a nice extra for those that dont mind shopping around. it wouldnt be hard to write into a characters story, a natural character that completes the midnighter arc could be "supercharged by magic", a tech character could be mutated by a shivan meteor.
I don't expect it to hapen but I though it might be a nice addition. -
I love making new alts, I love playing different AT's.
Now I'm not complaining about having too much choice for classes or powers, I just find that sometimes I'm quick to move onto the next alt before I get much further than about 30. I'll roll a new alt, get that to about 30ish and then rinse and repeat. About 50% of the time I will eventually come back to them but by the time I do I find that I'm not so committed to them anymore and usually give up after a few more lvls.
The only thing I have found that stops meconstantly rolling new characters is having a list of objectives that a character has to achieve, with rewards for hitting them. This keeps me more invested in them, here are some of my ideas.
I rolled a very basic looking staff/regen stalker that was little more than a basic skeleton fighting with a piece of drain pipe. Each time he completed one of the freedom phalanx tfs he was awarded a new costume piece, new staff options were alled after completing other tfs- broomstick for Katie Hannon, trident for the Sutter tf.
I have a sj/shield scrapper that was a 5 man fighting force and each new costume slot was a completely different character with their own look/personality/backstory (which made it feel like I was playing 5 different toons). As I hit 10,20,30,40 a new character joined the team.
My latest toon (ice/ice domi) is a pair of twins (again a different costume slot for easy of them), at the moment I just have one of them who has come to paragon city looking for the other. I'll unlock the other twin around lvl 14 when I get the ouro portal and then I plan on taking them through all the hero arcs (I haven't though of a reason why yet). At lvl30 I'll allow them to use my mini snowbeast pet.
I know this is basically role playing but I never actually pretend to be the character, I rarely even write the bios (just have them in my head), this is just something I have in the back of my mind to make me keep playing them and stop rolling another zillionth alt.
I was wondering if anyone else had unsual concepts with rewards offered for hitting targets that they used to keep them playing alts? Rather than "Lord Recluse killed my dog, now I am going to train to lvl 50 so I can kick his butt."
Ps. For those of you that just read this and think, "Just stop rolling new toons", I envy you for thinking it's that easy. -
I have to say that personally I dont feel like these choices were made out of spite. If the devs are trying to move the game forward then I think they have laid some good foundations
I have been thinking about how I would feel If each member had died and I realised I actually wasn't that bothered about any of them because asides running the TF's I have never really had much to do with them. There are some great story arcs in the game that make me feel invested in characters/contacts but non of these really involve the Phalanx. The SSA's seem to be a step in the right direction (they weren't perfect) but at least i'm interacting with the Phalanx.
Seeing as im not that fussed about any of them dying i'm more focused on how them dying will change the game. With this in mind im gonna run through why I feel the right choices were made (please don't rip me to pieces if you disagree, its just my opinion).
Statesman- His death changes everything, it's not really the consequences it will have blueside that im most interested in, I cant wait to see what happens with Lord Recluse and the patrons (bring back Weaver 1). Obviously the rest of the Phalanx now has to shift around to regroup as a new unit (I would love to see a Kheld make it into the team). Also there is potential for Ms Liberty and the Vindicators to get more involved.
Sister P- With her dead I am really looking forward to what will happen with Manticore. Penny is obviously stepping up as the new psychic on the team and im looking forward to this change. She is young so she will need training (beyond the mysterious figure that has been training her in secret) also at least I feel slightly invested in her as a character having run her arc in Faultline countless times and rescuing here in LGTF. Aurora might also get more to do which brings Calvin Scott back into to mix.
If Synapse/ Posi/ Numina/ Citadel/ BAB had died I dont think it would have (as) had much impact on the game. I mean Citadel is a robot, couldnt he just be rebuilt...? And Numina is already dead... I know these characters are loved by some players (who should be happy they survived) but they dont push the story forward by duying (although if you have ideas on how their deaths might have changed up the game world I really love to hear, seriously)
Im really looking to the next SSA to see how the world continues to change, more so when you factor in the events of the DA arcs. I think game is heading in a great drection and I can't wait to see what happens next. Good Job Devs!
(Now lets get a Kheld on the Phalanx plz) -
Thanks Guys,
Luckily I snapped up the Brain in the Jar when it was on the market. I think my new dark domi will rocking the headless look.
Roll on I22 -
Whilst getting excited about I22 I decided to read the overview again. In the "Dilemma Diabolique Incarnate Trial" photos (4 and 5) there is a hero without a head, just flames in its place- Amazing!
Is this something thats already possible and I missed it, is it coming with I22, something that will be puchaseable through the market or did Diabolique just blow his head up (Hopefully the last)
Anyone know? -
Yes please!
I'd finally be able to make a mummified bear with shark head toon! -
I know this might be a slight sidestep but did we ever find out if Sorceress Serene's "Autumnal Control/Autumnal Assault" are powersets that will eventually be released or if they were just created for her?
