Would starting from scratch affect your decision to continue to play?

I started from scratch 8 years ago and, by gum, I can do it again. As long as Paragon City survives, ring the bell to start Round 2, baby!

I would no longer play. My angel, my BS/Regen dies and my connection to the game is so tenuous that I would no longer feel compelled to play.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

If my other option is to lose City of Heroes forever? Yes, I would do it.

I would be sad to see my some of my characters go, especially the ones I have had for 7 years. But, I am more sad to see the game go and never have a chance to play some of the new content and revisit some of my favorite older content. So, re-rolling new toons would not be a problem for me. City of Heroes has become such a huge game in terms of content that makes the replay ability really good in my opinion because the older stuff is fun to revisit because you haven't done it for so long. There are soooooo many things to do.

To be honest I have a bit more fun in the middle levels anyway because toons are not so over powered. Some times when I go on mishes with my 50 and join a group of other 50's everyone feels so over powered because they are decked out with all sorts of hot rod stuff.

This.

Having to start a toon at level 1 isn't a big deal if we have access to the vet rewards and purchased items. Purchased power sets or costume sets specifically.

But if you could start brand new with no inf, etc, and only have the vet powers and previously unlocked costume pieces and power sets, that I could live with.

Hard to say... it's the sort of thing that could potentially put me off a game for good. It took me a very long time to reroll my namesake after they killed Regeneration's appeal for me because I'm loath to lose character progress. I don't even like being temporarily reduced by exemplaring.

Yeah I'd do it. I was planning on re-rolling lots of my alts in i24 anyway, I'd like to take some characters through the newer content as fresh faces. I know much more now about how to build so It'd be much easier, too.

I just bumped into this thread by accident, my take on it:

I have a few characters (2 to be exact) that I have played from day 1, that have grown on me as I leveled them up slowly, being a casual player, and actually put in all the 600 or so game hours to get my first to level 50. I don't think I can do that again as it's taken me many months to do so. Having to start off from scratch with neither of those characters will make the game feel completely different to me, as they are, for lack of a better word, the corner stone of my CoX gaming experience.

It would affect my decision to continue playing in the long run, as I'd have a lower level of interest in the game as a result. If there is in any way an option to save at least the character data for the players who aren't constantly remaking characters and port that over, that would be great. If not... time will tell if it remains as enjoyable to play as it has been.

No, if I had to start from scratch I probably would not play the game again.

Not just because of my 8 fully leveled, fully accolade'd, fully T4 incarnate'd, fully top end IO build'ed, badged, etc perfect toons (not to mention the other 73 lvl 50s that I played searching for those perfect toons), but because if I were to start from the begining on something I'd rather just get into something new. It wouldn't change the fact that I've already done everything CoH has to offer far more times than I would ever want to.

No problem for me. It's just one more challenge to defeat. It'd be a little slow at first, since there isn't a well-established market to leverage, but with all the tools at my disposal, I'd be back on my feet in no time. The lack of vet rewards would be annoying, but hardly crippling.

Would I play? Yes. Would I be happy? No. Would it affect how much I play? Probably.

The loss of the characters, that would be sad, but something I could accept with some attempt at equanimity. (I might do some farming for a couple of the characters, which is something I don't do for new alts.)

The loss of everything I've paid for over time would really suck. I like mixing and matching parts from different costume sets, use a lot of the bought powers. The money just wouldn't be there for a massive spending spree to put it back to where I am now.

And the loss of all veteran rewards/paragon rewards would be killer.

Now, all that is assuming it's a reboot of the game as it currently exists. If a lot of the old veteran/purchased costume sets just become part of the game (either for everyone or VIP). If there's, say, a $100 "old veterans pack" available for sale that resets that, I'd swallow hard and scramble for the money for that.

It would stink but I like playing the game so I would do it.

total kick to the gut

I'd remake my favorites and start over. The loss of vet powers would be rough, but hey we didn't have those back in the day.

My most nostalgic characters all use early CoH costumes, although I would dearly miss all the costume stuff I've bought or unlocked.

Not at this point. I was experiencing a little burnout already and was contemplating taking a break from the game. I wasn't going to unsub because I still have a lot of attachment to about 6 characters I've pushed to 50, IOd and Fully Incarnated. I figured I'd get on every once in a while and do something with them (if only to move them somewhere for a new day job badge).

So, when this news hit, it sort of made my decision for me. It still saddens me that I may lose access to those characters that I spent so much time with and gave me so much fun and inspiration, but really, they were the only reason I was going to stay subbed, so if I did lose them, I would not likely start over.

However... If, during the interim, they gave COH a serious revamp and overall (essentially, made it a COH2), then sure I'd probably be willing to start over.

It might actually rekindle my interest with the game. I love server wipes, gives back some of that uncharted territory feeling while also being a new and different experience compared to the first time.

Personally I found creating characters and playing them from level one to be one of the most rewarding things in COH, and there are so many combinations of powers and a massive amount of customisation to make yout hero look exactly as you imagine.

So starting again at the begining, I'll be there, I just hope we get the chance.

I would definitely start from scratch all over if I had the chance to keep playing!

I love the idea of starting from scratch again. I have my first 5 50's who were representations of my family, and if I start one, then all would have to get to 50 again. Possibly with slightly different powersets.

Then I'd keep going. For me, the 1-50 part was always my favourite, so starting from 1 is not a problem.

Not even a question. I clawed my way to the top once, I'd do it again. Actually starting over would be easier than the first time, as broadsword/dark armor became MUCH more manageable after IO's were introduced. Actually... just about all my old characters would have an easier time thanks to IO's.

If there were no other way, I would do it.

I'd prefer there be some other way. I hate starting over with no resources.

Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.

Agreed.

I doubt I would re-build my entire crew, either. (I have a *lot* of City characters. o_0) My three or four favorites, though? Absolutely.

...Probably, but I can't really say for 100% sure.

It's just a gut reaction, but I'd imagine that'd be the difference between me staying to play for *years* to come, versus "a few more months."

Aw, who am I kidding. Yeah, I'd be back.

Doubtful. If I had to start from scratch, I'd likely start from scratch on a new game so I'll have a new experience. Unlike the majority of players, I typically played a core group of about 4-6 characters for most of my COH career, and having to get them all back to where they were would entail too much repetitive grinding of stuff I've done before. I really wouldn't want to go the route of new characters, either...I tend to come up with character ideas and concepts that don't work properly in this game.
