If you had the forewarning to prepare for the game's closing, along with 2 years of preparation, how would you end the story in-game?

How canon were the Valentines we were handing out? I mean in terms of some folks being into others, as well as the implication that Master Midnight's crush for Diabolique was magic-induced.

I had this same question! Thanks for posting it ahead of me!

Best question so far!

Someone mentioned a google doc might be a better way to go. I agree.

City of Heroes AMA

Anyone can edit the doc. If someone wants to do the heavy lifting and delete duplicate questions, the designers and I can bust this out a lot faster.

Remember Wheaton's Law when editing the doc. Changes you make are PERMANENT.

(If there already was a google doc made, copy it into mine; I'd like to be able to lock out the doc so the designers and I can answer the questions)

(I pasted in up to Post 12 in this thread to get you started)

I don't mind doing it, but I'd rather not do it at the same time as someone else...

And I'm typing all my questions in Notepad before I post them here (or there, as the case may be)... I want to know a LOT - I got a book and a half to finish, so details are needed.

Tossed my Q up there. I'm sure there are loads of people asking the same question over and over again (what was the Battalion supposed to be? What were the other Incarnate slots gonna be? etc. etc.), so if I see any repeats I'll try and delete them and keep the list clean/organized.

This was already revealed by Manticore when he did his lore thread.

It was basically because City of Villains was originally going to let us be among the existing villain groups, like the Freakshow or Carnival of Shadows. The devs thought it would be a bad idea to let players be Nazis, though, so they designed they replaced the 5th Column with the Council, who were simply sinister fascists. But then that idea for CoV was scrapped, and it was too late to pull the plug on the replacement as it already happened. So they just worked it all into lore and had the Column simply biding their time, waiting for a good opportunity to return.

And that was because Castle was testing something involving giant enemies and their hitboxes. He super enlarged a generic Mech Man to use and it ended up leaking into the actual Beta, where players played with it in Mission Architect arcs until it was removed.

So many good questions...I hope mine aren't repeats (I didn't read past the first two pages):

First, the non-Lore-specific ones:

1. Were there ever plans to release 'custom' costume items--like Scirocco's hair, for example, long battle skirts for men, Vanessa Devore's back rings, that kind of thing?

2. In addition to the Imperial Dynasty pack, were there ever plans to release a Tsoo pack? Or at least, release some of the costume pieces for the Tsoo female models?

3. Was base building ever going to be revamped so it was easier to align objects without flicker?

4. Were Masterminds ever going to get more options for pets?

Now the Lore ones:

1. Was there ever intended to be a Mot specific to Praetoria, or are all the First Ward hints of a growing dark power meant to point to Dark Astoria and Primal Earth?

2. Was Destroyed Praetoria going to be the new zone for all Praetorian characters, with an Echo: Praetoria option slotted in somewhere? Or would Destroyed Praetoria have trumped previous zone versions?

3. Why, when leaving Praetoria, did the entire zone seem to forget the character's existence? It always seemed like travel to Primal Earth forced a memory reset on the Praetorians left behind. Was this meant to be canon, or was it just a coding issue that became adopted shorthand for the process?

4. Were there plans to 'rebuild' Brickstown and Faultline? (Not update, but actually have the cranes, ironworkers, foreman and the like actually slowly rebuild structures, with the old broken structures being removed from the zones?)

Thanks in advance!

Why were Countess Crey and Hero Corps colluding, and why didn't the Hero Corps story thread make it into the game?

What was going on in the burned-out parts of Paragon we could see just outside of the war walls?

Who was the second villain group villains were going to be able to join in CoV?

Who were those villain groups we saw named in that old pre-launch E3 trailer, and why didn't they make the final cut?

Who were the aliens that uplifted the humans of Rikti Earth? What were they like? Where did they go and why did they uplift the Rikti? Where were the aliens in Primal reality?

Why did the Rikti hate magic?

Why did Nemesis provoke the Rikti to attack our Earth? How could that have helped him conquer our planet?

Was there a Nemesis invasion event planned? What kinds of new enemies might we have seen?

Was there ever to be a Nemesis map type? What might it have looked like?

Was City of Heroes all a Nemesis plot? Heroes were penned into zones by war walls, and the city was populated by people who always walked around in circles, never entering buildings, repeating the same lines over and over again, like automatons. Also, there were no children or babies, which could be because Nemesis lacked the technology to create automatons that small. Was Paragon one big Nemesis simulation, meant to study heroes?

Were the Surviving Eight really the only heroes in all of Paragon to survive the Rikti War?

What happened to that Thunderclap guy from the Dark Horse promo comic? And why did States have a helmet in the comic, but a mask in the game?

Why was the Dr. Science (Steven Sheridan) in Going Rogue so young?

Who was the leader of the Knives of Artemis?

Why did you change the colors of the Black Market truck from Optimus Prime red to blue? It was just a red truck, as seen in the game.

Why did the cars in CoX have weird headlights, and where were all the gas stations?

Why were there three neon signs on one road near the train in King's Row, but none in the rest of the game (before CoV)?

What caused all the pollution in Crey's Folly?

Who provides the cybernetics the Freakshow uses?

Was there ever going to be a Zig trial?

Who did the big statue in the middle of Steel Canyon represent?

To the people wondering about Silos breaking his tether, my understanding is that the tether only applies to time traveling beyond one's own lifetime, but Silos has actually somehow managed to live the entire time since he was once Nemesis and therefore has not broken his tether since he has not traveled beyond his own lifetime. Since the rest of Ouroboros is unaware of that little fact, they all assume he has broken his tether somehow.

Ooh! I have another one!

Why are all the plaques in Praetoria, First Ward, and Night Ward in Estonian?

Old rough draft versions of the enemy groups we have today. That's all.

Quote:

They were the most famous and prominent heroes to have survived. A team the media can focus on, pretty much.

Quote:
Why was the Dr. Science (Steven Sheridan) in Going Rogue so young?
The original uses a generic 2004 low res model. They updated it for the GR arcs and, because of that, he looks younger and cleaner.

Quote:

Blame that on two things: graphic designers that didn't want to spend too much time designing cars instead of more important things, and world designers that don't know what a city actually looks like. We're also missing buses, fire stations, genuine-looking hospitals, and a wide variety of other things you'd actually see in a city.

Quote:

Obviously didn't fit with the kind of style they had in mind for Paragon City, then.

Quote:
What caused all the pollution in Crey's Folly?
Chemicals Crey was working with when the Rikti destroyed a hidden facility of their's during the first war. It's in the 2004 story bible.

Quote:
Who provides the cybernetics the Freakshow uses?
They steal their cybernetics and use a special drug to get them through the pain of chopping their limbs off and turning themselves into monstrous cyborgs.

Hope that helps a bit.

Nove Praetoria, Imperial City, and Neutropolis would not be destroyed. You could still go there, and still roll up a Praetorian as the events of those arcs precedes Praetoria's destruction.

You got it. It wasn't meant to be canon you were forgotten about, since Incarnate arcs would actually reference the things you've done and Preatorians would remember you if you were a native. It was just a coding issue as you shifted alignments to fit into Primal Earth.

I think you mean Boomtown. And I, personally, don't think anything more was gonna come from Faultline since it would invalidate all the arcs there if the entire zone was fixed. But like I said, that's just my personal opinion.

In the future Ouroborus part of Mender Ramiel's arc, was our character ascended or a very advanced incarnate?

Was Lady Grey an Incarnate?

I already know that. I was hoping for something more specific.

I don't see many people who aren't Freakshow walking around in Paragon with giant hammer and sickle arms, and the Freaks don't exactly seem to be type to be able perform extensive surgery, so I imagine there has to be more to it than that.

Any plans for pvp? And any thoughts on Castle's changes?

Were there any static groups you all ran in the office and if so what powersets did you all play?

What powersets were dev's favorites?

Unless you're looking for the name of the chemical itself, there's not much more they can say about what caused the pollution. Crey facility is destroyed, its contents destroy the environment. That's all.

Scrap metal can be forged into giant, rusted claw hands, blades, and armor, which is what the Freakshow are. The Freakshow just use debris and weapons/power sources they steal from anyone like the Council, Crey, Longbow, etc. and fuse it to themselves.

The surgery comes from either folks in their number that don't have giant weapon hands or former Vhazilok doctors like Doc Buzzsaw. There really isn't more to it than that.

I asked this question during a video conf and Aeon gave me the evil "i'm not telling, but you'll learn some day" look

Q:
Darren Wade and The Dream Doctor both use the "bio" skin for their hands ... what is the story as to why they both have messed up hands? I assumed it was because they delved into magics that dealt with the Shadow Shard. Yes?

Feel free to answer this question last and to make up the answer out of whole cloth:

When all is said and done, did we ever get to win? That is, do the heroes and villains of Earth ever get to finally triumph over the aliens, Wells, extra-dimensional entities and humanity-destroying gods and finally at last have the Earth to ourselves, to find our own future the way we ourselves make it, for good or ill?
