Lore AMA... coming soon...ish

One of the biggest things I've always wanted to delve into more is lore on the Rikti: Culture, biology/physiology, more details about their technology... Stuff like that. As somebody who roleplays a Rikti, I find this kind of information both interesting and crucial

That said, my questions (all Rikti related) are the following:

1. What is Rikti physiology/biology like, how different is it from humans? As the Rikti are mutated humans, they assumedly have a fair number of similarities, but how much is similar?

2. According to the partial Story Bible that was linked in another thread, there are a total of 97 Lineages in Rikti society, each led by a "god"/Lord similar to Hro'Dtohz. A good number were mentioned that expanded upon the two already mentioned in-game (War, Science), but there are still a good number that aren't named. What are the names of the unmentioned Lineages?

3. According to the above-mentioned bible, it can take up to 50-60 years before Rikti are considered adults, and Hro'Dtohz is implied to be over one-hundred years, but there's been no clear indicator as to how far they can age. My question is: How old can Rikti actually get?

4. In an earlier "Canon Fodder" post, Back Alley Brawler mentioned that the Rikti have families much like humans do, granted they have their differences. How does Rikti family life work, and what differences are there from human family life?

Those are my questions. Thank you for your time

This I can give an answer to. In an old school Issue 0 arc you save a skilled surgeon from the Rikti. From all the fighting and being stranded on Earth, the Rikti suffered some serious injuries. Apparently, they could actually kidnap humans and harvest their organs to save their own comrades from dying. Since the humans and Rikti can swap organs successfully, they can't be too much different from us in that department.

I also heard from another player awhile back that the Rikti survive on a mostly algae and plant-based diet, and that they consume food very similarly to an algae-eater. Mind you, I heard this from a player and I can't provide any actual proof supporting it at the moment, but if anyone else out there knows this is a fact and can provide evidence (or debunk this as just a rumor), I'd appreciate that.

Ah yes, I remember that arc. Granted, they weren't stealing organs for the sake of repairing serious injuries. If I remember right, Rikti organs tend to wear out quicker than human organs (apparently by overworking them during combat situations)

As for the Algae thing, your friend was partially right: Most Rikti food tastes like algae, according to Infernia during the Lady Grey Task Force, unless you're able to receive what she refers to as a "psychic flavor transmission". So apparently, even Rikti food is psychic.

Also, I can elaborate on Rikti and food. I actually spoke with one the devs about this (Hero One) a -long- while back. According to him, despite how they appear, Rikti do have mouths similar in structure and location to those of humans, granted it's well hidden and a bit smaller, given the design of their heads (They won't use it to speak or anything of the sort, seeing as this is done entirely by telepathy and/or translator devices). Hero One also stated that the Rikti can eat pretty much anything humans can eat, so long as it's not processed in any way (Apparently, food processed by regular human methods is particularly unhealthy for them, more so than it normally is for us )

Tell me about the Gamester. What was (it)? I know it was a plot device, but what was intended for it to be in the long run at any point?

The Gamester was a neat concept that could have pulled itself out over many issues and events, and one I have incorporated into some of my own tabletop games as a side character, as the players discovered who (it) was and (its) intentions.

I just want to know what Paragon had in mind for what (it) might be.

"I play characters. I have to have a very strong visual appearance, backstory, name, etc. to get involved with a character, otherwise I simply won't play it very long. I'm not an RPer by any stretch of the imagination, but character concept is very important for me."- Back Alley Brawler
I couldn't agree more.

Questions I want answered about Lore: My list...

#1: What was the coming storm, exactly, and tell us what you can about Battalion:
- What they were
- where they came from
- the exact threat they posed
- what their background was with the kheldians
- were they somehow linked to the Hamidon?
- how did the Rikti defeat them in their own home dimension?

#2: Exactly how many wells were there? I know that there was more than one, and people could, theoretically, become their own well if they amassed enough power, etc. How had that worked in the past and how were you planning on that working in our future?

#3: Who, exactly, and what, exactly, is Lady Grey?

#4: What was the Preatorian Hamidon encounter going to be like? How would it have been different from the primal Hami Raid?

#5: OK, complex question: so in recent issues we've had a massive emphasis on nature/biological power sets and concepts (beast master, bio armor, nature affinity, water blast, wind control, etc.). All of this was happening while we prepared to fight the Preatorian Hamidon. We also had Galaxy City destroyed by a type of Shivans that seemed very biologically powerful. We know the Rikti have mutated biology and no magic in their society, and they somehow beat the Battalion? We know that the destroyed Oro we saw in the future had giant tentacles that were part of whatever destroyed it.
- Was there something to all of that or am I seeing connections where there aren't any?
- Were the Rikti mutations somehow a way to prevent Shivans from using their bodies like the ones in Bloody Bay use ours?
- Were they somehow a "biological" threat that twisted our own nature against us?
- Was getting rid of magic somehow key to beating them for the Rikti?
- Was Hamidon, perhaps, actually part of a way to "balance" against that threat, or maybe what drew them in the first place? The Preatorian Hamidon's creations DO look a lot like giant Shivans. I always wondered if battalion wasn't, in fact, ANOTHER dimension's Hamidon and Devouring Earth, where they won, and now went after other worlds and dimensions. Perhaps in that dimension hamidon had, in fact, become a well, and the Battalion were all drawing their power from him.

#6: Were the warnings and glimpses we got of the future, where we somehow become almost a God who ends the universe, ever going to be explained? When our future self warns us of the choice we make, and the link we share with Frost Fire?

#7: Did Sister Psyche actually mind ride before her death? After all, she WAS in the minds of everyone in Paragon.

#8: How was Rularuu going to return and/or play a role in future story lines?

#9: Can you PLEASE fully explain any new archetypes and power sets that were coming down the line?

#10: Is there a way I could contact you personal via email or something? I'd like to give you a big "thank you" and "encouragement" but don't think the forums is the best way for it. Ok, ok, I know this isn't technically Lore...so lets say "is there any way one of my characters could send a message to Positron in game?" ;-)

OK someone posted the lore bible in another thread and I read that thing for hours literally the past 2 nights and this morning like 4 hours of reading and I hate reading on computer screens for anything for the subtitles or manga anyway here's the question.

Rularuu the Ravager came to our dimension to devour it whole and the midnight squad stopped him. Well he originally sniffed out our dimension cause he started off eating other versions of him self in other dimensions and it made him stronger and some of his other selfs also got stronger(though not nearly as him) and some realized what he was doing. Mainly the other version of his self in the midnight squad Gerad the Green or Great I can't recall at the moment.

Here it is then, Gerad was a great magician and it's said Dream Doctor has a connection with Rularuu the Ravager, Is Dream Doctor and Gerad one and the same and Dream Doctors connection is he is really Rularuu of our dimension?

For those unaware Rularuu the Ravager actually started Human in A highly advanced dimension where they could travel dimensions easily. But it was highly advanced in magik but only a very very few select had this ability or potential for this ability and they acted as travel agents as it were. I forget the name they were called and none of them turned out like Rularuu the Ravager. He just Turned out like the way he is because the only way he could originally travel from 1 dimension to another is to consume and travel exactly where his other self was. That's the way could sense the other dimension originally by sensing his other self.

One about Lord Nemesis also.

Is Mender Silos another dimension version of Nemesis?, our Nemesis from the future in a highly advanced robot body that looks human?, what's the deal with Mender Silos and Lord Nemesis?

Lucky666, where did you find that link? I'd like to take a look at it.

I realize that this falls into the "make something up on the spot" territory, but what is the real deal with Holsten Armitage?

What exactly WERE the tentacles that could be seen around the destroyed Ouroboros in Mender Ramiel's arc? Praetorian Hamidon or something else entirely?

Is there a lore explanation as to why Peacebringers/Warshades/Nictus don't exist in Praetoria? I know that there is a reason why VEAT's can't start in Praetoria (since Arachnos doesn't seem to exist.) But did Cole just have every Peacebringer/Warshade/Nictus killed or did the Kheldians never come to Earth in Praetorian Earth?

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

What the heck is the deal with Serene being the Black Queen? How did the logistics of that work, on account of her being dead. Also, is she the one Reese is talking about the second time you put him down?

Here are my lore questions. Sorry if I repeat anything that was already said.

1). According to to Paragonwiki, we know about the Praetorian versions of three members of Arachnos. They are Recluse (dead), Ghost Widow (Resistance member) and Wretch (PPD member). What about the Praetorian counterparts of the other Patrons and their Lieutenants?

2). What was the story behind the Radio and the Television? What are their origins and why do they hate each other?

3). Was it all a Nemesis plot? If not, how much of it was?

4). Does the real Nemesis actually exist now, or is his mind spread through all of his robotic duplicates?

And some more questions that aren't Lore related:

5). Were there any more Mastermind powersets in the pipeline? And was there ever a chance for a Pirate MM set?

6). Was Mastermind henchmen customization ever a possibility, or was it too unfeasable to implement?

Would be kind of a trip if Dream Doctor's method for removing Hamidon from Praetoria and bringing down Ouroboros was to trap the one in the other.

You know what I would love to have? A book, with ALL the story lines in the game (hero/villain/praetorian)...everything from beginning to end. I really hate to admit it, but my SG mates will out me if I don't...I get so caught up in the playing part, just trying to keep up with them, that I don't often get to read the whole story line of any arc that we do. And yes, I know I could find the story line somewhere, but then I'd be getting it all in pieces. I'd like to read it all in one big book, like a novel. I know it will never happen, but a girl can dream! I know there might not be a big market for such a book, but I sure would be happy to pay for it. I think I just might be the only person who bought a set of those CoH/CoV binders, that went through, I think, Issue 7. I was really disappointed when no more updates came out. I seem to require more instructions than the average gamer Fortunately, my awesome URBAN RENEWAL SG mates on the VIRTUE server, are always willing to help me out. I still would like some books though...

Actually, some questions for unrevealed stuff:

Who is the guy in the navy suit by Positron? He was added sometime this past issue but has no purpose as of now.

Also another NPC behind the Atlas Park Auction house, Representative something or other?

Now THAT is intriguing.

Also:

How/why were Kheldians a source of fuel for Battalion ships? What was Twilight's Son's role in all of that?

Okay! I hope it's not too late for one last question. I was reading the old lore bible stuff about the Malta Group and I cam e across an interesting faction called the Archonate! Apparently they are a group of super beings? What exactly are they and have they been implemented in the game in some shape or form?

Let me start by thanking you devs for finding the time to set this up. It's an incredibly selfless thing to do after having the rug pulled out from under your feet. Anyway, here's a few random lore questions:

1) What would be the outcome of Emperor Cole and Praetor Duncan's trial? The discussion on whether Cole's actions were justified or not went on for years in the forums and was never resolved, in my head, at least. I imagine both Loyalists and Resistance would like to see some sort of veredict from the dev team.

2) Mender Silos and Ouroboros were always somewhat bittersweet to interact when playing a hero. What was it the "redeemed" future Nemesis was plotting, saving the world or conquering it? Could you expand on the Menders' purposes and motivations?

3) Warwitch returned after Nightward's events, something I imagine made Apex very happy. Were you planning something special for those two? What about Horus? Given the Battalion's apparent connection with Kheldians, would everyone's favorite Peacebringer be returning as well?

4) Regarding the Shining Stars, late game plots suggest something of a confluence between heroes, villains and Praetorians to deal with world-shattering threats, so it stands to reason that both Proton and Flambeaux would eventually return to the team. Plus, rogue tips hint at some sort of redemption on Flambeaux's part. What were your plans regarding the eventual fate of the Stars, if any?

5) Can you expand on the decision to kill Statesman, Sister Psyche, Malaise and Miss Liberty, and were there any plans to bring any of them back in the future, or having the players meet them again in new storylines taking part in the past?

6) Manticore seemed to be heading towards a dark place. What were you planning to do with him, stay Vigilante or cross over to the red side entirely?

7) Would Ghost Widow ever be restored? What about the Wretch?

8) Why didn't Emperor Cole use his super-laggy lightning power to crash the server when the incarnates attacked, like he did against Arachnos?

9) Let's talk about Patrick Duncan, Ms. Liberty's father. Who was he? Did he have an alter ego? I always speculated that he could be Hero One or Hero 1 - both were active in the lore around 1976, so the time fits, they used the same parent-offspring naming system as Miss Liberty/Ms. Liberty, and most of all, why else would Meg inherit Excalibur if not from her father or older brother? Anyway, can you elaborate on the matter?

10) Pure speculation, but could Amanda Vines be the alternate identity of one of the game's heroines? Female Face 13 is particularly common among heroines (Sister Psyche, Seraphina, Ms. L, Miss. L, Maiden Justice), and as far as I know only powerful meta-humans share that face. Aside from Amanda, that is.

11) PEATs. And by PEATs I mean Praetorian Epic Archetypes while trying to sound as nerdy as I can. What were your plans regarding this matter, if any? Also, regarding the immensely controversial Ranged/Armor tank-mage AT. Would it ever have seen the light of day?

12) CoH 2, developed by this team. Still possible or only in a different reality?

13) You devs have about 50.000 lemmings desperately waiting to be prodded into the right direction. Where do we go from here? Or better yet, where are you planning to go so we can trail along right behind you?

14) Thank you for giving us this wonderful game.

Had the Post-Apoc set actually been released, would it have been used to upgrade the appearance of the Lost... and also make them appear a bit more like modern day Rikti as well?

This made me laugh so hard... I could only get all the way through that mission if I limited myself to the single target attack.

I remember hearing that players never found the way we were "intended" to defeat the old hami raids. Can you tell us what was the "intended" method to defeat hami?

OK, question on EATs taht didn't make it in:

Avilans - the flying EAT. Mostly out of curiosity, were they "This could be an interesting AT - hey, they players need wings and they'd fit this that we have in mind already," or "The players need wings, um... ok, I think we'd have to do a special AT for it?" (In other words - story or wings driven?)

A lot of people asked about what the other methods of time travel are. I know that one of them is "The Devil's Timepiece". It's in that heroside Midnight Club triple arc where you're hunting for stolen magical doohickeys.
*deep breath*
One of the family gets a hold of it, and uses it to stay one step ahead of your hero until he gets fed up with the pursuit and goes head to head with you. The device malfunctions when he tries to use it to double team you and creates a paradox, breaking it. The reason it was dangerous was because it sucked in a little bit of your soul with each use.
My question is:
Lord Nemesis. There's a lot of joking about how he's "behind everything", but just how much of it was truly his work?
