    Marvel Heroes

    This thread made me wonder...

If there any danger of a new hero MMO coming along and getting sued when we migrate to it and start recreating our own characters from here? Could a company "data-mine" character names and concepts from our accounts here, find them there, and claim a violation?

Im wondering now if I should delete all of my characters the day CoH shuts down...

Anyone have any ideas on if that is even possible?

Sorry for the hint of morality, but it is really quite strange to have a region which espoused such a paradigm of honor and respect change so dramatically in relatively recent historical times. It honestly looks like "they" are seeking to control the market by enforcing the least (and least savory) ideals of the social conscious (or should I say lack of same?).
To be fair, at least part of it can be tied to the odd laws that we forced on them post WWII. One of them outlawed pornography, and then labelled pornography as anything that showed pubic hair. Suddenly you had a society where it was the total opposite of us, where we have the crude attitude of "grass on the field, play ball" as the "low point" yet for them that is the starting point. It's also why cartoon porn took off there.

I'm not shooting the messenger, but this finally gets me to say F@$! NCsoft. They can't even let it go THROUGH Friday the 30th, knowing that Friday night many more people are able to stay on and play through the closing without having to work the next morning?

Seriously. They have zero customer relations common sense. F@$! them and every product they ever make from here on out.

    Just a guess.
I don't believe this is true. There was at least one time where 2xp was extended into weekdays (I believe through a wednesday) because one server crashed during 2xp. So the script IS there for activating it during weekdays. Besides, I'd be really curious if its anything more than typing in a date to activate it and end it, since the game has no reason to have any coding that seperates "weekdays" from "weekends."
  6. As a matter of fact, the day we DO get all of the answers is the day I sort of accept City of Heroe's fate and stop hoping for a last minute rescue. :-(

Not exactly what I'd call examples of careful methodious planning. Okay mostly he'd been planning in relation to The Comming storm and Mot caught him off guard, but STILL. He flat out says "I'm improvising here" several times during the times you work with him directly.
Not to mention, wasn't trapping Rularuu in the shard sort of a misstep on his part too, causing far more destruction of that dimension than he expected? For some reason I thought his creation of the shadow shard ended up killing tons of people trapped there.
  8. my hope is that one of the things they're waiting for is a final "definitive" answer on whether there's ANY hope that the game may continue in some form. After all, answering all of this now cramps any future story plans they had in the works, so they wouldn't want to do that if there's even the possibility that the game will be bought out or continued in some form.

So the fact that they haven't answered means there are workings behind the scene to keep the game alive and they're looking like they're succeeding!!!!

At least, thinking that way makes me feel better, so that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

    :-D
  9. While I love the idea of them "ending" where they began, in AP, I can't shake the idea that if the whole multi-verse were falling into the void, I'd want to be in Pocket D. First, it's the one place where you MIGHT have a chance of avoiding the collapsing dimensions, and second, if we ARE going down, I want to party on the way.

    Plus...catgirls. Or for me, catmen.
  10. In the event that CoH DOES meet an untimely end, where are you all planning to migrate to?

I've tried DCU and Champions. Neither jump my fancy, but I'd be willing to do either one if it meant still teaming with my Justice-ites. Post in here where you'll be and see if we can coordinate a way to regroup?
  11. Questions I want answered about Lore: My list...

#1: What was the coming storm, exactly, and tell us what you can about Battalion:
    - What they were
    - where they came from
    - the exact threat they posed
    - what their background was with the kheldians
    - were they somehow linked to the Hamidon?
    - how did the Rikti defeat them in their own home dimension?

#2: Exactly how many wells were there? I know that there was more than one, and people could, theoretically, become their own well if they amassed enough power, etc. How had that worked in the past and how were you planning on that working in our future?

#3: Who, exactly, and what, exactly, is Lady Grey?

#4: What was the Preatorian Hamidon encounter going to be like? How would it have been different from the primal Hami Raid?

#5: OK, complex question: so in recent issues we've had a massive emphasis on nature/biological power sets and concepts (beast master, bio armor, nature affinity, water blast, wind control, etc.). All of this was happening while we prepared to fight the Preatorian Hamidon. We also had Galaxy City destroyed by a type of Shivans that seemed very biologically powerful. We know the Rikti have mutated biology and no magic in their society, and they somehow beat the Battalion? We know that the destroyed Oro we saw in the future had giant tentacles that were part of whatever destroyed it.
    - Was there something to all of that or am I seeing connections where there aren't any?
    - Were the Rikti mutations somehow a way to prevent Shivans from using their bodies like the ones in Bloody Bay use ours?
    - Were they somehow a "biological" threat that twisted our own nature against us?
    - Was getting rid of magic somehow key to beating them for the Rikti?
    - Was Hamidon, perhaps, actually part of a way to "balance" against that threat, or maybe what drew them in the first place? The Preatorian Hamidon's creations DO look a lot like giant Shivans. I always wondered if battalion wasn't, in fact, ANOTHER dimension's Hamidon and Devouring Earth, where they won, and now went after other worlds and dimensions. Perhaps in that dimension hamidon had, in fact, become a well, and the Battalion were all drawing their power from him.

#6: Were the warnings and glimpses we got of the future, where we somehow become almost a God who ends the universe, ever going to be explained? When our future self warns us of the choice we make, and the link we share with Frost Fire?

#7: Did Sister Psyche actually mind ride before her death? After all, she WAS in the minds of everyone in Paragon.

#8: How was Rularuu going to return and/or play a role in future story lines?

#9: Can you PLEASE fully explain any new archetypes and power sets that were coming down the line?

#10: Is there a way I could contact you personal via email or something? I'd like to give you a big "thank you" and "encouragement" but don't think the forums is the best way for it. Ok, ok, I know this isn't technically Lore...so lets say "is there any way one of my characters could send a message to Positron in game?" ;-)

  14. Count me in to help out, rangle. Ive never done one either.
  15. @puhma here...

Justice was always the server where you could find a successful raid of any kind. How do we all plan on spending the last three months?

We need to set up some official last hurrahs. I want to get at least 1 toon from 1-50, enjoying the way and running the good arcs one last time for the first time in a long time. Maybe do it with one of those combos I always found interesting but never got around to trying. Hell, maybe I'll FINALLY run a peacebringer or warshade. Who knows. Then run the fun arcs like the Doc Vaz arc, the Faultline contacts, the arc where you uncover where the Paragon Protectors came from, etc. Anyone else want to join me?

We should set up some last hami raids, ship raids, CoPs, Jack of Irons, A massive final Heroes vs. Villains PvP brawl in RV for the ultimate claim to be the rightful inheritors of Paragon City, a slew of TF runs, etc. Also, I wouldn't mind having a team run through our painstakingly created AE arcs one last time before they're gone. I'm very bummed the ski shalet and halloween events will never happen again, but I can't help that.

And ****...I still can't believe I'm typing this. I'm gonna miss you all. This is the only MMO I ever played for more than a week, and it was the people who kept me. This was the first place I ever "came out" of the closet, and led to me doing it in a lot of my real life, too.

Anyone else interested in any of this over the next three months?

Like I said before, the current theme of the Hybrid slot is to either enhance your character's intended role (meat shield, dps, support, crowd control) or to allow them to branch off and gain abilities of another role. If a new Hybrid tree only does one of those two things, then it's accomplishing less than the other trees...

First, as I pointed above, MANY power sets/combinations in the game are designed specifically to avoid melee range. A bubbler (who has an entire power designed to keep enemies from getting closer) or a storm def or a robotics/ff mastermind would get very little use from any of the melee buffs since they are entirely reliant on having enemies in melee range of you to occur. I guarantee you that many archetypes and combinations in the game spend -less- than 1/3 of their time in melee range, which is the amount of time you'd be getting the main benefit from the pets tree if you only use it with Lore. At the very least, this hybrid suggestion would be offering a slight recharge rate boost even if you had zero pets outside of your lore pets, and then, for 33% of your play time it would offer a pretty heavy buff to those pets. Considering that your hybrid slot is only able to active 50% of the time anyway, I think we're talking much less "uselessness" to non-pet archetypes than melee is to a toon like my dark/storm corr or an energy/bubbler def.

    That being said...

What if the +recharge side of the tree (which gives the weaker commands but faster recharge on pets) actually affected Lore pets as well? And like other hybrid slots it offered a minor +recharge "always on" buff. In other words, you could actually get your lore pets to be up more often (40% of the time as opposed to 33%) and have some additional controls over them? THAT would make this even more beneficial to -every- player who has hybrid slot unlocked. One side of the tree gives people who have restricted access to pets (patron, lore pets, etc.) more "pet availability" and mild control while the other gives people who have pets as a main part of their play much greater control over their pets.

But my Trick Arrow/Archery/Power Defender would not be able to use your Pets pool at all, except maybe on Lore pets, but they're only available for 5 minutes every 15 minutes.
How would your trick arrow/archery/power benefit any -more- from the melee pool? I'm assuming that it, like my dark/storm corr, spends less that 5 of every 15 minutes in melee range because doing so makes effective use of its best powers (nightfall/Tenebrous Tents/hurricane) all but impossible. There are many many combinations that are designed to be played entirely from range, which makes the melee tree useless to them. Likewise, the control tree offers limited advantage to the many combinations that have no direct control or aren't teamed with a controller. A chance for fear/immobilize for a scrapper with single target attacks can't really be argued to be any better for many combinations than a chance for +recharge and a benefit to your lore pets when up, even if you have no other pets. The +20% recharge alone is a more useful tool to many of the non-pet using combinations than a chance for fear, IMO. And Im saying this as someone who went with the spectral interface chance for immob tree on my staff scrapper. It's so useless Im working on switching to another.

Still, there really isn't anything (other than the support tree, which IMO is all but useless on Masterminds that aren't robotics, since pets usually fight AWAY from their master, not nearby) which really helps make "hybrid" pet users or helps make primary pet users more pet specialized. Would you agree?
  18. How is "those with pets" any more niche than "those who play in melee"? Lets face it, just like there are many toons that find themselves heavily in melee range, and thus would benefit from the melee tree, there are plenty of toons that work heavily through pets (masterminds, soldiers of arach., controllers, and Doms) that would benefit from a Command tree. Likewise just like some toons, while not designed for melee, could benefit some from getting some melee survivability, there are some who aren't designed for pets, who could get some benefit from having a boost to the pets they do have. This applies to all of the archetypes described above, but would also apply to many defenders and villains who are running around with patron pets, and to every single character that has crafted a lore pet. As a matter of fact, I'd say its -less- niche than the control tree, which really is only helpful if you either are a controller/dominator or are teamed with one.
  19. I would assume it would affect everything except the recharge rate of Lore pet powers. The point of one side of the tree is to let non-pet centered toons "fortify" their pet powers, and most of those aren't primary or secondary power pool pet choices.
  20. Ok, we have support, melee, assault, etc. but we could REALLY use a hybrid tree for all of the many toons that rely on the use of pets as their primary role in game play, or (as the name hybrid implies) want to make up for their character's weaknesses in that area.

And yes I know the other trees affect pets as well, but none really help non-pet toons become MORE pet friendly or really boost the USE of pets, just their effectiveness. So here is my proposal.

    HYBRID POWER: COMMANDS

Commands Genome: This power give each of your pet attacks a 20% chance to grant you and your pets a 5%. recharge rate bonus. Unlike other recharge rate enhancements, this will increase your pets attack speed. This will stack up to four times. (If it's too hard to make these recharge rate increases work on pets, then make it a self +recharge, a pet +damage; however, if the mechanics work for the pets to be affected by the +recharge, this would be a great plus, and since this toggle is on a mandatory maximum of 50% up time, it wouldn't return us to the days of SB'ed pets running amok.)

Commands Core tree: This tree focuses on increasing the recharge rate of all of your pet powers (outside of Lore pets.) This helps non-MM characters have pets available to them more often (capping out at 35% chance for a 7% buff up to four stacks for a total of 28% recharge rate boost). It also will, at tier 3 and, above, give you access to two basic pet controls, "aggressive" and "passive", with tier 4 giving you access to a third command, "bodyguard mode." This would appeal to any non-mastermind characters that have pets with long recharges, as well as controllers and dominators who would now have some minor control over the actions of their pets.

Commands Radial tree: This tree focuses on increasing the damage your pets do and the control you have over them. This helps Mastermind, dominators, and controllers have more mastery over their pets. It trades the recharge rate buff for a smaller % damage buff, and at tier 2 you also gain access to two additional pet commands: "Stay close"- anchors pets to within 10 feet of you despite any aggro, and "defend target"- places a selected target or ally in bodyguard mode, as opposed to yourself.) At tier 3 you get access to additional pet commands: "Melee" and "ranged" which anchor them in to that fighting style. Tier 4 gives you access to the "Hold ground" command for use in heavy AoE environments. After selecting a targetted location, Clicking this command once will cause your pets to group/regroup on that location, while clicking it a second time will cause them to momentarily scatter for safety.

    Wrap up:
With the addition of this hybrid tree, Masterminds, controllers, and dominators have the option of getting much more control over their pets and a moderate damage boost. This is very useful to pet-centered archetypes, and also have the advantage of making masterminds much more useful in the incarnate trials like the Magisterium and TPN. Non pet oriented archetypes who choose this hybrid power get an opportunity to have their pets available more often and are given some minor controls over them. This also fits perfectly in line with the other hybrid trees: melee, assault, support, and control.
  21. No...really. I have 2 8 hour XP boosters to grant to someone, and I'd really like to trade them. My global is @puhma if anyone has some they'd like to trade. Figured we could just use them on our lowbies. Let me know.
  22. A Psalm of Crotch:

Tell me not in mournful numbers
Load screens are an empty scene
for the soul is dead that slumbers
when the crotch is to be seen

States is real, States is earnest
and one TF is not his all
    Loads and splashes which returneth
Show us State's is "very small"

Close no load screen, howe're pleasant
    Let NCsoft flash the dead
    And, within that glimpsing present
see if you can get a head.

Let us then be up and loading
with a heart for any shot
    Still AE-ing, still TF-ing,
Glad we don't have Statesman's crotch
  23. /signed on the jumping buff. Personally, I'd suggest making a jumping buff and a speed debuff via the way of a map-wide runspeed cap. Make us move like astronauts on the moon, unless we can fly on our own.
  24. The great thing about this is that it every one of these powers exists in the game currently, so it shouldn't be TOO hard to roll out soon. ;-)
