Quote:There's a lot more to first impressions than physical appearance. A polite, respectful attitude can offset a reaction to someone's appearance. But a good number of people know a jerk when they encounter one.Yes, human-beings naturally judge someone based upon first impressions, but, that's not a good thing.
It's an animal instinct left over from millions of years ago. It's the main cause of racism and most bigotry.
Yes, humans do judge based upon first impressions, but they shouldn't. -
Quote:Okay, I'll give you that. Honestly, I just went that route with my kvetching because I'd been quietly grumbling to myself about the GW2 ads before that strip went up. I admit, I expected that if they addressed it at all it would be through the PA Report or a news post, which would be taken a little more seriously than the comic.I'm not sure, but it sounds like you're implying PA's integrity is compromised. So if GW2 is paying for ad space, PA won't say anything negative about it or NCSoft.
This seems to be completely negated by a comic they did just last week.
Speaking of which, I did appreciate Tycho's newspost. Maybe he should check to see if he still has a game account since you can't sign up for a new one. -
It's probably about the best we can expect, given that they're receiving Guild Wars 2 ad revenue.
You'd think their little Penny Arcade Report news thing would have had more by now, given that if Warren Spector farts and startles his cat they put up two interviews and an editorial. -

One graphics bug I think is still going on in game now is with some of the Crey mobs. It's with the Medics, I believe, but I can't recall if it happens with any of the other scientist-looking ones. Basically, when engaged, one of those little medical scanners will pop up right next to their head and go through the 'scanning' effect, like they're scanning themselves in the head or something. It'll always stick with me.

How canon were the Valentines we were handing out? I mean in terms of some folks being into others, as well as the implication that Master Midnight's crush for Diabolique was magic-induced.

Quote:In theory they could. But rational human logic and corporate ego logic don't always work the same.I honestly don't get that argument, This was done for financial reasons anyways, and I'm pretty sure someone reading this could post a link that proves Ncsoft's financial crisis and is available to the public.
If that's the case, Then people probably already know how "Weak" they are, Could they not just suck it up and make some cash in the process?
For instance, in the corporate world, cancelling a profitable game might conceivably come across as 'bold' and 'daring' and a sign that they've got something so brilliant up their sleeves you'd be a fool not to invest in the company. -
Honestly I suspect that selling the IP -- and thus suggesting that they would actually need the money, whether they do or not -- would come across as too much of a sign of weakness for the corporate ego to handle.

Quote:I'm sorely tempted to make this my new sig.Disappointing players has been this game's specialty since Issue 1. Its just that the devs have become so much better at it. They used to disappoint players by taking things away. They improved significantly a few years ago by disappointing players by doing nothing. Now they do it by giving things away. That's impressive.

It's not even showing up on the list at all.

Thanks a million for the help, Tex. I greatly appreciate it.

Long story short, the time has come for me to get a new computer. Which means installing CoH on the new one.
Rather than redownloading everything on my crappy (for the moment) connection, I plan on transferring everything over. Now here's my question:
I'm fully aware of Bill's Guide, I understand how to implement it, etcetera. However, it and pretty much every other discussion I've found here about transferring installations between systems* seems to predate the current launcher. Does anything about the process need to be changed to make that work and if so what? Also, are there any special concerns for transferring over Test and Beta clients?
*-- I fully acknowledge that I might have missed one. My search-fu is usually at least functional but I'm not soft-capped and it still occasionally misses. -
My experience of the event:
Log in to a toon who happened to be in Talos at a time when, if the admin message was any indication, everything was happening. The room he's in loads up with a big 'Lost Connection to Mapserver' message in the middle of the screen. Various channels kvetching about the lag. Then I get disconnected, declare 'screw it' and go get a bite to eat. -
See, my first thought is that we've already seen other crossovers... like, say, from a world full of monsters that resemble a lot of our Halloween-related iconography.

I dunno if it's normal, but I've had the same problem. Was the error on yours the 'Patch path not found' one?
-
I've got one for you guys. I just had an ambush flee while doing one of the Imperial City Praetoria missions. We didn't have any defense bonuses up, no chance to target them with debuffs (they didn't even get into range). They entered the room (one of the big sewer ones) and turned around and fled back far enough that they de-aggroed and returned to the spawning point.

Quote:Oh, I've got no major complaints about that, myself. I'm just saying it's the most common gripe I've heard.I have no major complaints about the movie or the CGI Flynn. A lot of the griping I've seen elsewhere is mostly nit picking.
Quote:The digitization process can send people and objects into the computer and back out again....but how can a program get rezzed up into our world? Does the program suddenly gain a human body or did I miss something? Ah well, an excuse to see it again -
Quote:The only major recurring complaint regarding the movie's special effects are the CG'd face of CLU (and, to a lesser extent, younger Flynn in the beginning). And while it's not perfect (IMHO, the only time it's really shaky is in the early scenes under the real world's lighting), I personally think it's still pretty darn good. It's not flawless, no. But that's because there are limitations on the technology that I get the impression you're not aware of. This video has probably one of the best examples of a CG'd face (even one that's been scanned and recreated with a computer) that our software is capable of, and it's not flawless either. As far as the CGI... everything that should be in that movie should be very simple to do by todays standards and so if they are bad at all it shows a lack of talent or focus on those aspects in favor of something which whether it was good or bad doesn't matter cuz it didn't need to be in the movie. I'm not saying that the CGI itself is bad, but rather that if it is to anyone then there is a problem...and I have heard people say they are bad so I am left with the conclusion that they are indicative of other bad decisions on the film.
It's not that the CLU effects are 'bad'; if you stop and think about the fact that there are people who still insist that it's just clever makeup, it's pretty impressive. It's just that the technology hasn't quite gotten us across the 'uncanny valley' yet, and some (but not all) people find that near miss a little less acceptable than a computer generated person who clearly doesn't match reality. Some people would prefer a crappy fake robot head or something to a computer generated face that's just 'off' enough to be noticeable. -
Quote:This is a notion that I think is very relevant. If the devs need a reason to stop and look at the reward system again, inherent fitness is a darn good one. Even beyond the low level activities, it's going to change how things work for every character -- ones that didn't use it will now be benefitting from Health and Stamina, and ones that did use it are going to have extra powers once the slots open up. That's a big change.Even under the current reward scheme, reward values need to be looked at again. There have been some systems which dramatically changed the amount of time it takes to complete a task since the last time the task reward table was updated. Specifically, super side kicking made a huge difference. I can imagine the inherent fitness changes having a similar effect - especially for low level activities.

$10? *wince and intake-breath hiss through clenched teeth*
I was hoping for something more like 6-8. I'm not one of those folks who gets inspired by the sight of new costume pieces, so I might hold off on it.
If I weren't running a slightly older computer that can't do Ultra Mode (and, as a result, can't enjoy the Impervium Mantle), it'd be a little less up in the air for me. But I think I might wait until I'm sure I'd get some use out of it. -
I'd certainly consider getting this, if the price is right.
If they did some sort of bundle with the Party Pack where you could buy both for a reduced price, I might even consider going that route. (Cole knows it's the only way I'd get the Party Pack.) -

Is it worth it to try and use the 'multiple builds' option as a means of maintaining Kheldian flexibility while allowing yourself some wiggle room on power and slot requirements?
For example: Is it easier to manage a single triform build or have, say, one build for human/nova and one build for human/dwarf? -
If it helps you feel any better, I could 'hear' your tone change in my head during that brief OOC aside before getting back to IC ranting goodness.
