Are multiple builds worth it?

Is it worth it to try and use the 'multiple builds' option as a means of maintaining Kheldian flexibility while allowing yourself some wiggle room on power and slot requirements?

For example: Is it easier to manage a single triform build or have, say, one build for human/nova and one build for human/dwarf?

With my guy, I have a tri-form build and a human build. The tri-form is all about flexibility and the human form is about stalkerish DPS.

I still need to buy/make all the IO's for the human only build so I don't know how it compares damage wise, I do fairly well with my tri-form though.

The only real concern is money. Building and maintaining 2 lvl 50 builds can be very expensive.

If the intent is to try to maintain flexibility with dual builds, I would say no. There's a fifteen minute cooldown between build changes, so you can't really swap it out on the fly in a way that I would term flexible.

I find that dual builds are better used to have radically different builds on the same character (such as tri-form and human-only) rather than trying to effectively 'split' a tri-form character over two builds.

Only if you're trying to maintain expensive IOs.

I find multiple builds better for adapting yourself to troublesome missions. For instance, I typically combine a Tri-Form build with a more specialized build in case the Tri-Form is just TOO adaptable. Since I build a Tri-Form around the concept of "dancing", or constantly shifting, it wouldn't work to try to split it into Human/Dwarf and Human/Nova and select based on what I expected the mission to be.

To be precise, my Warshade is a combination "dancing" Tri-Form, and a primarly Human form build, with Dwarf for when I am in danger of being mezzed. The Human form deals most of the damage, but right now it's not mature enough to keep me alive very long, so the Dwarf form is about at the same level as the Tri-Form.

My Peacebringer is a "dancing" Tri-Form, combined with a balanced Human/Dwarf build with Nova added on for a flight mode. I also have a PB who is still pure Human form, but I haven't gotten him to 20 yet. I'm actually waiting until Kheldians get Power Customization, right now I'm not happy with the standard colors for the concept.

Here's my recommendation I toss out a lot.

As you level you tend to do the best you can and you end up with a mish-mash of IOs of various levels, generics a few sets and some SOs. When you get above the level where you can slot your end-game IOs (for me that is level 32 or 37 as I always slot level 35s or 40s for exemping reasons) start a second build and put in only your "perfect" IOs. Play using your mishmash build while filling in your second. Once it is 90% complete you can swap over and play it primarily while you respec your mish-mash build into something that will work for your alternate concept.

This way you always have 1 working totally viable build, and you can take as much time as you need to be patient and get cheap deals on the stuff you need for the alternate.

Human only build and the coming changes in I19 to Fitness will make Kheldians one of the few ATs worth making dual builds. As for the cooldown, if you are finishing missions faster than 15 mins, I'm guessing it wouldn't matter what build you use.
