So , yes, either you're with me or you're my enemy. And I do have a pair of Sith Lords in SW: TOR.
Sure. I guess I'm part of the problem. My friends told me how much fun they're having playing GW2, friends I've been trying to get into MMOs forever. I do plan on buying that game and enjoying it because I believe it is a quality product. As a consumer, I'm making the right decision to support a product that I feel is worth my dollar.

If anyone wants to make a difference in how NCsoft's company is run, those hired by the company should be doing their part to ensure they feel they work in a non-hostile work environment and receive the compensation they deserve. It's not my responsibility to ensure the world is pure and righteous (by enforcing my ideals on them).

Sure. I let my money speak for the product. I think CoH is a quality product and am willing to help the game out in any way I can.

Apparently, my help isn't welcome here so I should just keep my money and support?

Yeah, stop trying to be the voice of a movement. Just stop talking period.

Well, from what I can see, lots of people are enjoying the game. Even if the company goes bankrupt tomorrow, I have a hard time believing the game would simply die with the company.

I honestly have difficulty looking at that picture. I'm a cold pragmatist in many ways, but not that way.

4. You only HAVE to buy GW2 once anyway. You can get just about anything from their cash shop in game through playing, even the currency for said shop.

1) www.ncsoft.com Go there. What games d'you see? I see that Guild Wars 2 is listed on the main site as one of their products. Not blaming it, but it'll get no support from me. NO NCSoft product listed there will.

2) It's already been made clear that NCSoft favors the Korean market and is pulling out of the NA and EU markets anyway. Likely the company will shift its developing and production out of america, because self respecting americans won't work for what amounts to pennies anyway.

3)I refer to the previous answer. They're already pulling out. Which your father should've done.

4) No. A thousand times no. NCSoft is never getting another dime of mine UNLESS....and this is a big if still......UNLESS they sell off CoX license, game engine or otherwise make sure the game can continue. Otherwise? No deal. Ever. At all.

But the way some people are acting? No, not even City of Heroes is worth that, and quite frankly, it detracts from what the game "means" to us all to stoop to that. As my version of Commander Shepard said to Earth high command when explaining why not causing genocide to the Krogan cost them the Salarian fleet: "The price was simply too high."

As I sit here trying to support what's left of City of Heroes, I ask myself... What, exactly, is it that I'm sticking out for? An intellectual property? A business? Vengeance? And the truth is that... No. None of the above. I stand for people losing their jobs with no warning, that's something worth being upset over, but that we can't really change, not at this point. But when it comes to City of Heroes as a "thing," what is it that we're fighting for, really?

All I know is what I want out of it more than anything else. I want my imagination back. Games come and go, but City of Heroes represented an idea and an ideology. To me, the message that Paragon Studios left us with is one of creativity, one of communication, and one of chasing our dreams. Despite all the fighting and the villainy and the world-destroying, I never logged on because I wanted to kill stuff. No, I logged into City of Heroes because a group of very cool people put in their blood, sweat and tears to let me live out my dream, and then kick me on the *** and force me to think up a better dream.

City of Heroes is where dreams are born, and I feel those dreams will live on far beyond the game itself. Even if we fail to save City of Heroes - and we probably will - I want to cherish those dreams and those experiences as they were. To start insulting people and ruining business is, to me, to trample what the game meant to us. Paragon Studios left us with a legacy of creation. Just what is it that we're saving if all we care about is making NCsoft pay? That's not what City of Heroes is about.

Y'know Sam....I've disagreed with things you've posted...and I've agreed. You're quite eloquent where usually what I have to say is all diluted with emotions and feelings and such.

But you nailed it there. THAT is why I want CoX to continue. Those people in Paragon Studios were pioneers. I hope they stick together and move forward.

I still hate NCSoft for the dick move, but hey. It's corporate greed. My response is to never again support their products and to warn people away from them.

Kudos for eloquence.

This is actually completely correct. Punishing Arenanet for some really stupid vengeance streak to get back at NCSoft for killing CoH is pathetic. The game was in development for 5 years, and boy does it show - it is super polished for having launched a week ago.

It feels quite different from the original Guild Wars to me. The only other new game that is grabbing my attention and not letting go is Planetside 2 - but let me tell you, you have to have a beast of a machine for that game. The recommended specs (not minimum, recommended) are a quad-core processor and 8 gigs of ram. Yeah... I discuss it and show it here running on my new machine.

And I can support that. To me, why you do something is as important as what you do, and not supporting NCsoft for more or less the right reason seems justified. Some have said they worry about NCsoft closing Guild Wars 2 as suddenly as they did City of Heroes. Given their culture of mistrusting Western developers, this seems at the very least reasonable. Not wanting to support NCsoft because you dislike them as a company also seems reasonable, if it feels like a deal with the devil. Yes, it hurts ArenaNet, but we aren't beholden to them. If you want to make a statement and vote with your money, yeah, I can support that, as well.

Where I draw the line is when we start growing bitter and wanting to harm people, and not just the people we perceive as directly responsible. People mad at NCsoft I get. I even encourage it. People mad at NCsoft AND everyone affiliated with them? That's crossing the line. There's no such thing as guilt by association, and holding ArenaNet to task for "sleeping with the enemy" is ludicrous. Holding people who buy ArenaNet's game to task for being traitors is outright insane. To put it in City of Heroes terms, the former is what turns a Hero into a Vigilante. The latter is what turns a Vigilante into a straight-up Villain.

It may seem weird of me to say this, but I feel the best thing we can do right now is to turn our anger in a positive direction. And yes, that can be done. Let's do what we can to see about preserving the game, I'm with TonyV on this one. But if we can't do that, then I don't want to leave bitter and cursing the name of NCsoft, because that's not what I want to take away from all of this. What I want to take away is the cool development team we had, the awesome community we came together as, and the dreams that a mere game helped not just fulfil, but outright create. From where I'm sitting, to turn our anger into bitter hatred would be to waste what's left of City of Heroes.

All good things must come to an end, but nothing really "ends" in the gaming industry. It just stays away for many years. As the industry moves forward and starts "getting" what people want, old classics start coming back, reimagined and renewed. Hell, even as we speak, I'm looking forward to the remake of X-Com, even though the last decent game in the series came out in... What, 1994? Even if we lose City of Heroes, our impact on the MMO world has been made, at least in part. Because look at it realistically - the MMOs of today are not the pointless grind-fest time sinks of yesteryear. Soloing is possible, progression is faster, story is important and engaging the player with innovation key.

Companies are finally getting it, and I put no small amount of the contribution to that on City of Heroes, the little game that just wouldn't die. Because when you have an absolute underdog that people preached would die tomorrow for eight years straight, and which finally went down not because of its own failure, but because of corporate politics... People take notice of that. Just what the devil is that niche game doing right that massive corporate titles with the bank backing them up aren't doing? Even if they don't admit it, I know people took notice, and if that's all I walk away with, then I walk away a richer, happier man.

That's really my whole point - what are we walking away with? It is our choice. We can walk away with the pain and anger of a sudden loss, or we can walk away with eight years of fun, imagination and innovation. I will choose the latter every time.

I just would not feel comfortable giving NCSoft any of my money right now. Really, I am not sure I want to give any MMO my money right now. There just seems to be no security in anything except for WoW, and the community there really turns me off.

I personally will not support NCSoft. I don't hold it against anyone who chooses to, but I feel no need to give them smiles and thumbs up either.

Yup I dislike NCSoft right now, for a few days there I hated them. So, I guess it does annoy me when people attempt to rationalize what they did, or suggest that I should support one of their other products.

This may not be ArenaNet's fault. I actually enjoyed GW 1 for a time, but again sadly they are an NCSoft studio, NCSoft makes money off of their product, so I will not be purchasing it.

This is my first ever Boycott in 37 years. I guess I am doing it right. It has moved from anger though, and now it is just a mater of me voicing my opinion of their company by not giving them my money. It is the best I can do, but I will still support other movements like petitions and facebook pages. Maybe in year or so I will feel differently about NCSoft, but as it stands now if I play a new MMO it will be Secret World, or WoW.

I get that Joe is angry, and that is just his way of expressing it. Not my way, but on the other hand there are two or three posters that seem to want to rationalize and borderline defend NCSoft. I do not feel this is the place to do that. Emotions are high, and there is no surprise that people are lashing out.

Don't you have a chair to yell at?

What is truly pathetic is people getting offended at the idea if boycotting NCSoft . I mean, seriously what the hell is wrong with you people ? They fired paragon studios and the players but we shouldn't boycott them because boycotts are evil. Or something .

Sam's argument seems to be if you boycott a company, any company for any reason, then people who had no connection with the activity that offended you suffer, and if you make any anyone suffer for something they didn't have direct responsibility for you are a villain.

So if Wal Mart sponsors legislation that makes it legal for you to shoot anyone you feel threatened by, even if they are only armed with a bag a skittles and an ice tea, and you boycott them, then YOU are the real bad guy because some mouth breather might lose their $hitty minimum wage job.

And again, we can't have nice things.

Boycotts are like strikes. They are the only way people who really are powerless against our corporate overlords can seize power and hold them accountable. You want nice things like universal health care and job security you have to strike for them. If everyone in the working class in this country took a week off from work and didn't buy anything we'd get some real change around here.

But that won't happen because boycotts and strikes are evil. Or something.

Sooooo if I play GW2 I'm part of the problem? I have friends working on the game, as I stated before, and have been involved with it myself since before the beta. It's a great game and has a great dev team, that like this ne, listens to its community.

There are ways to take action when a company does something wrong, like this, and while I made a childish reaction earlier in this threat to make a point I will clarify myself here. If you dislike what they did, fine, so do I. What I intend to do is slam the two games that should have been shuttered here in the states because they are he orating already; Aion and Lineage 2. Both games do well elsewhere it tanked here and will degrade further because of, wait for it, GW2. NcSoft made a crucial mistake where their US portion of their business is set. They are gong to refocus on Aion, but its already dead because the pvp player base from it will find GW2 more appealing.

Now, to say I'm the enemy, when I have been utilizing my own (comic company based) contacts to see if that avenue can save the game... Well, let's take a look at Going Rogue for a moment and the two sides of the Resistance. I'm the part that doesn't want to take any more casualties. Hurting GW2 would result in more casualties. Bad press is currently what we need and it needs to be directed at NcSoft themselves. They were trying to make themselves look good for a buyout. Since we have reached media levels trying to save the game the battle is already a part of the way there. Any potential buyer will now think twice aout a company that doesn't think things through properly. No one wants to invest in a problem.

Stating that people are part of the problem, just because they choose to do something differently, does not make it true. Please, again I say, let cooler heads prevail because the message is already starting to sink in.

Given the chance, one could choose to make an impassioned argument to play and enjoy GW2 for solid game play, and give it a chance regardless of history in other games by the same company.

Instead:

One of the things that irks me is this: GW2 is a dazzlingly beautiful game.

WHY DID WE NOT GET AN EQUALLY BEAUTIFUL COX2??!! Can you imagine CoX redone like that! God, what a game that would be, at least visually. I guess we just were not worth it or something.....?

I am very torn right now. I think I may DL a GW2 trial and see how it goes. Nothing else I tried so far is working out, and Secret World makes me nervous. That game is not doing well *at all*. I dont want the rug yanked out from under me AGAIN a year or so from now; I have shed enough tears so far over losing my online community, and I'm not done shedding them yet.

I can say that I would be VASTLY more willing to show my financial support for GW2 if CoX could be saved somehow. That would be a fine "thank you!" from me. I could find it in me to play two games. I prefer a more sci-fi feel to things of course, but there is no denying that visually, GW2 is a knockout.
