The "That Actor Was In What?!?" Thread

Tonight I was reading through Cracked.com and stumbled across something that made me go, "Bwah?". Ok, so this is Cracked and pretty much every article has that, but this one relates to actors.

You know Josh Brolin? The guy playing Young K in MIB3? He was also Johan Hex? Guess who else he played.

Brand in The Goonies. The older brother.

Blew my mind.

Also, not related to Cracked, but Tara Strong. The voice of Twilight Sparkle in MLP: FiM. Guess what else she played.

Raven in Teen Titans, Batgirl in The New Batman Adventures, and Harley Quinn in Batman: Arkham City.

What actors have given you a similar moment?

When I realized that Dr Amy Farrah Fowler 20 years ago was Blossom. Then discovering Mayim Bialik actually has a PhD in Neuroscience.

That Winnie Cooper of The Wonder Years, Danica McKellar, is now the voice of M'gann in Young Justice.

Also about Tara Strong, she's also the voice of Bubbles of PPG and Dil in Rugrats.

Then you have the entire cast of Gargoyles. Besides all the Star Trek actors we also have Detective Elisa Maza becoming Allison Blake in Eureka.

While I can't think of any names, I often have moments of "THAT'S WHERE I KNOW THEM FROM!" when watching things.

If I see an actor and vaguely recognize their face it'll drive me crazy until I figure out where/what I know them from.

GAH now it's really driving me crazy, cause this happened a couple days ago, and I can't remember who it was that i couldn't... remember... who it was.

I did a double take when I found out Clancy Brown does the voice of Mr. Krabbs on Sponge Bob Squarepants.

Tara Strong also did the voice of Timmy Turner on Fairly Oddparents and Toots from the very inappropriate Drawn Together. She's got a very extensive resume.

not actors, but I was startled by several names from the credits of season two of the original Spider Man animated series from the 60s-

Ralph Bakshi, producer & animation director.
Better known for his 'adult' animated feature Fritz the Cat & others.

Gray Morrow, layouts.
Prolific comic & paperback cover artist, co-creator of Man-Thing.

Lin Carter, story.
Noted SF editor, hack SF writer.

Strange to find so many familiar names working in service to such an awful show.

The one that still gets me, even now after he did the voice many times for practically decades, is Mark Hamill as the Joker. Even when I see video of Mark sitting behind a microphone recording the voice I do double and triple takes at how amazing it is to hear that voice coming from his mouth.

I guess long ago my brain froze in the idea of Mark Hamill "being" Luke Skywalker and it will just not ever accept him as anything so completely different as the Joker.

I think one of my all-time biggest "Bwah???" moments was when I caught a rerun of Adventures in Babysitting (yes, I like that movie) and, when watching the end credits, I realized that...

"Thor"

was played by...

Vincent D'onofrio

I'll always remember him for the animated Lord of the Rings.

Recently happened to me twice - during the Fringe two part season finale where I couldn't place the one actress as Charlotte on Lost, and the New Girl season finale where I couldn't place "new roommate" Neil as Lt. Dangle from Reno 911.

Don't forget Wizards!

I didn't know about Bakshi being involved with old school animated Spider Man, but it makes sense... the Mysterio episode was just trippy!

Yeah, when I watched the first ever Batman TAS episode that had Joker in it, I did a major double take when I saw the credits and had to rewind it to see that was indeed Mark Hamill.
Also there is a tale floating around that he is coming back yet again to do Joker voice for a project.

Alyssa Milano in Ahnold's action movie: COMMANDO

Shannen Doherty was in an early episode of AIRWOLF

Bill Mumy: was in an episode of the live action FLASH tv series, he was also in the 1990 Captain America movie (the movie is best filed under W.W.N.S.O.T.), and I did a double take and had to recheck the credits of the episode when he first appeared in Babylon 5. He did quite well as Lennier, too bad in the episode that June Lockhart guest-starred in that they didn't have a scene of them walking down the corridor and do a double take when they saw each other and each think that the other looked familiar somehow.

I had the same double take on that one!

And when I walked in on "The Deadpool", a Dirty Harry movie, playing and saw Jim Carrey!

Samuel Jackson in "Coming to America".

Jennifer Aniston in "Leprechaun".

Finding out Vasquez, from "Aliens", was also John's stepmom in "T2". (Some directors seem to utilize their own 'stables' of actors)

Bill Paxton in "The Terminator" (see above note)

Almost always skipping over Donnie Wahlburg in movies.

Jackie Chan in "The Cannonball Run"

JCVD in "No Retreat, No Surrender" (not BWAH?!? for me but when I bring that up to others... lol)

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

You forgot that Ms. Strong was also part of the greatest trio of Super Powered siblings made of Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice, with a dose of Chemical X thrown in for good measure. (Tara did the voice for Bubbles)

Perhaps a bit obscure, but my dad got the an old BBC show called I, Claudius on DVD awhile ago and Patrick Stewart was in it. As a bad guy. AND HE HAD HAIR!!

Also, to add to Mark Hamill's ever-growing list, he was the voice of the Chanukah Zombie in Bender's Big Score, aka, the first Futurama movie.

Yeah when I first heard the zombie sing in Bender's Big Score I thought he sounded familiar then the tie fighter clinched it for me.

As to Patrick Stewart, I believe he was Gurney Halleck in the 80's Dune movie.

Every time I watch the movie "Excalibur" I'm always pleasantly reminded that Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Gabriel Byrne, and Liam Neesan are all in it, to name a few. To me, Nicol Williamson as Merlin stole the show.

I, Cladius is pretty much a who's who of classically trained British actors.

Of course it's got BRAIN BLESSED in it, who famously says "IS THERE ANYONE IN ROME WHO HASN'T SLEPT WITH MY DAUGHTER?!" (though he was merely talking slightly louder, nobody has heard Brain Blessed shout...when he does...the world will end).

Also speaking of which, Timothy Dalton (who played James Bond) turns up in Flash Gordon (alongside Brian Blessed, and Richard O'Brien) as Prince Baron, didn't notice this until I rewatched it recently.

Let's see here...

Jackie Chan was in Cannonball Run II actually. As was the guy who played Jaws in the Bond Films (They were partners).

And Bill Muny wasn't the olny B5er to experience Sci-Fi before then. Bruce Boxleitner (of course) and Peter Jurasik were both in the Original Tron, even though they never shared screen time together in that film.

Thank you for the time...

Another one I just remembered - a couple years ago I was watching a movie, I think it was "Go," and was shocked to see perennial bad*** Timothy "Marshall Givens/Sherrif Bullock" Oliphant in the character of a goofy drug dealer/user. Pretty sure that was the movie, but like I said, it's been a couple years.
