So wait... isn't T'keron Valmaz YOUR character? YOUR character is the only one everyone can turn to?
Holy freaking god, dude. I don't care if this is an RP event on Virtue, if you present the server with "MY character killed Statesman, and MY character knew this would happen since thousands of years ago, and MY character is the only person who can help you all", I can't tell you how many people will laugh in your face. We all got the opportunity to watch Statesman die. But guess what? Wade was the one who took Statesman's life. Not you. Not me. Not the players. And the ONLY person who knew all this would come to pass was Wade, or whomever is giving Wade his plan. |
Your character's history is yours to do with as you please, so long as it only affects you.

And for my Uwe Boll moment - I will gladly throw down the gauntlet and bulldoze ANY and EVERY character in your arsenal with my custom-tailored Inv/SS Tank in the arena at whatever time you feel like backing your assumptions of my build, Demetrios Vasilikos. Not that it's any of your business how I choose to play my character in the first place.
Say what you will about levels of competency, but this is one game where you DO NOT judge the individuality of your fellow players - and what surprises they might have in store...

Many of us are not 'WoWtards' as you put it.
Many of us LIKE RP.
Many of us are also better writers that don't try and godmode canon itself with 'Im so speshul' syndrome. Hate to break it to ya.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I do love it when the ignorant try to decry my character as a godmod. Let me count how they are not.
T'Keron Valmaz is yes the Lord Of Demons, frankly put when after 3 months in year one of seeing tons of really poorly concieved non canon related demons, devils, fallen angels, and half breeds running around I was like know what I am going to make a proper Demon character to RP just to try and spread some Lore. I did some research, naturally it always circled back to the CoT and Infernal. I came to see the very concept of T'Keron Valmaz as exactly the kind of concept so many where trying....and utterly failing at, creating let alone RPing.
He was the most powerful of his kind, now suddenly shackled with aspects of humanity, morality for example, emotions like guilt and doubt suddenly plagued a mind so ancient and complex it would be a truly worthy challenge to try and RP. I ended up drawing mainly upon inspiration from the Xanth saga by piers anthony and the Demon Xanth. A being who simply put saw our world as a speck of sand in the bigger picture, but wasnt so disconnected as to not recognize the impact Powers from even a single dimension could have. It takes little logic to assume it would of been Valmaz who made the first pacts with Orenbega to arm them with power ancient enough to match Tielekku the God.
I actually see as in IRL view point valmaz and not tielekku as the first and most important hero in COX lore. Had he not stood on our behalf game over right there, tielekku enslaves humanity, nothing left but a world of her zealots. So I try to give such a figure life, to use it to educate my fellow players on the actual game world they are playing in rather then using some generic Im a evil monster cus Im a demon tripe. In my book a demon of the caste of Valmaz is the icon of the moustache twirling to cool to have to kill villain with a secret heart of gold Benevloent dictator type. And really considering what you can guess of my RL personality isnt that the absolutely perfect kind of character for me to RP? I mean come on would you want anyone but an egotistical in game lore junkie to try and play such a character? Someone would have eventually used that name if I hadnt and could of easily been one of those Emo drama queens rather then a guy who just likes to sit at the D talking about moments in game lore history as if they where moments that actually meant something to me.
Really though just know if you truly love the game like me then I am not really any different from you no matter how you want to try and seperate yourself.
Ahh. I get it now. You're one of those people who actually believes that everything you write is true and factual. I'm sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but you are not the unique and special snowflake your mommy said you were. You are a sad, delusional person and you have my pity.
your = Belonging to you.
you're = Contraction meaning "You are."
Ur = The name of an ancient Mesopotamian city.
ur = This is not a word.
Hm I could be mistaken but dont you rep Union RP? Just to keep in line with my typical arrogence that is like a SYFY movie actor trying to talk trash to some classic great like Basil Rathbone. Yeah I went there.

Side note: WoWtard more or less means someone whose first MMO is a wow type, or worse wow itself, and that you put more energy into the numbers aspect of building a character then the story concept. Pretty much as long as you always put the concept first, no matter your reason your not a WoWtard.

Ok people, can we at least try and respect each other a little bit more?
I understand not all will like RP, and not all RP the same way.
Should this thread be in the RP Section? Yes.
Does it bother me that it isn't? No.
Do i RP? No. Do i hate RP'ers?, No.
We are all here for THIS game, all for our own reasons.
We should all respect each other a bit more, and if you don't like someones thread/opinion/vision/thought or what not, be civil about it and not start spewing hate or be mean.
Insulting people and most of the things i have seen here, violate the forum rules, and also makes you look like a fool.
If you can't respect each other and have to be negative and insult people because they don't play or think the same way you do, i think these clouds say it best:

The problem most people here have is that YOU are trying to write the game lore. It's the problem that I have, at least.
Sorry, no, your character doesn't have the last breath of Statesman. Hate to break it to you. Well, unless you can get every single RPer on your server to agree that in fact you do.

It's not trying to adapt key lore from the game. It's the arrogant attitude that his storyline is somehow so magical that the development staff may be so impressed that they may add it to the game! And anyone who disagree just doesn't respect the game as much as he does.
To pass off himself as a "lore junkie" is insulting to every lore fan in the game. I love the Green Lantern. But I'll be damned if I think any possible fan story I could write is better than The Blackest Night.

This thread makes me cringe.
That is all.
I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...
The opening poster does not represent roleplayers as a whole, the roleplayers on Virtue. They represent themself, and comes across as someone who I would neither wish to know or roleplay with.
Their lore is laughable, their characters clichéd and more likely to be the product of a teenager's power trip experience into Dungeons and Dragons, and their attitude repugnant.
They may compare themselves to Shakespearean actors, but those actors worked and trained hard for the renown they rightly receive as actors. The opening poster has judged themselves worthier than all roleplayers and seek to decry those who would protest their grandstanding and inserting their characters into major lore events as terrible and 'haters'.
I pity them for their delusions.
Yeah, pretty much what everyone else said. Saying that your and ONLY your conception of how a demon should be RP'ed is "right" is just plain arrogant, to say the least. Demons have appeared in many cultures and mythologies, with many aspects, behaviors, and personalities. And that's just older stuff, let alone depictions in modern culture. So to say that there's only one "right and true" concept is just plain wrong.
Something else I take issue with- the OP claims that all the good names and concepts were taken within the first year. Funny- I see characters made just days ago with names and concepts that intrigue me. And while waiting for a valentine's mission team in Pocket D, I had somebody come up and tell me that they loved my concept- a concept for a character created just a couple of weeks ago. That's what I love about this game- we're not shoehorned into the narrow mould of "human with powers and funny tights, who HAS to have a comic-book sounding name". We can be almost anything in this game, almost any concept will fit. (Well, they won't let us make drug, sex, or toilet themed characters, or use plays on cusswords as names)
I have made a couple of characters based on game lore- their stories tie into the fall of Woodvale, aka Eden. But I wove their stories into the game's lore, I didn't force canon (what little there is about that event) to change for my character.
I've dealt with RPers before, who were all like "Oh my character could defeat yours, blah blah blah", and it's annoying. It turns fun into the RP equivalent of a pissing contest. I remember some annoying demon type once- I had one of my characters, who was the avatar of a Tower Crane. He was going on about how he could snap my structure with his fist, blah blah blah." What's the fun of RPing with somebody whose whole concept of RP is "My character can beat up yours"? I wish I had thought of this sooner- In a world where people summon demons like calling for pizza, and demonic sacrifices are performed in vacant lots all the time, having a construction site (and its resident crane) protected by magical wards designed to keep demons out would not be unheard of. Or this being a city full of superpowered beings behaving like they want the title of "captain collateral damage", one can easily see an enterprising (or just self preserving) Crane Avatar protecting his original form with a little impervium or other useful substances scavenged during his extracarricular crime fighting sprees.
