  1. This is an amazing post and should probably be stickied or something.

    Where are you?

Added mine, the town of Newton Aycliffe in ye olde England (UK)

I notice someone living shockingly close ... >_>
  3. "Paragon Studios is switching to a hybrid business model to give us .. more money! I want to fill my pockets with cash, and that cash is yours!"

See, if they just said this to me at the start, i'd have been sold instantly

    What if...

    Think of the hats ...

    SO MANY HATS

ALL OF THE HATS. ALL OF THEM.
  5. When you heard the news? (Yes, it's one of those threads, I didn't see one, so here we go)

I just finished my dinner in-between a pause from doing back-to-back iTrials, getting ready to do another, when someone posted the link.

Safe to say, I didn't join the next trial going.

This was on Union, character name Arch Bishop.

How about the rest of you?
  6. Bad timing OP ... this thread has just made me a little sad now.

Now they'll never get to appreciate the awesomeness that is/was City of Heroes.
  7. Proper things I remember:

Finding Pocket D on the Union server. First proper dip into RP'ing. My first RP character was Ganglord Brack, and when I look back at how I was, it makes me cringe.

Then came the invite to the Union Roleplayer's channel. Up until then, yes, I had been RP'ing with a crowd, but I didn't know the players. Heck, the only person I played with was a RL friend who played semi-regularly (Then dropped altogether)

I was amazed at how friendly everyone was, after coming from WoW, and RuneScape before that!

The first person I really struck up a friendship with was TheOrrery (Who came back for a bit not so long ago, then disappeared again), then others followed until I considered the entire channel my friends.

I also got to partake in proper teaming, like, not just two people. Big teams of eight! EIGHT! How fun it was.

Then, after about 1.5 years of playing, I was introduced to Task Forces. And I wondered why I always shied away from them! It was Ammon who introduced me, and it was ITF, and I used my first ever 50, Doctor Fallout.

It's been good times since then, and CoX is the only game where i've had more than one character at max level. Slowly but surely, they appeared. I can name them all off by heart:

    Doctor Fallout
Aerial Assault (which is what my chat handle is)
    Fury of the Gods
    Tomb Guard
    Executioner Cyrus
    Steam Centurion (Undoubtedly my favorite)
Azurewing (Who was the first to get a seriously tricked out build, and incarnate in everything)
Pursuit (Who got to 50 in under a month, which was FAST for me)
    Mganga
Arch Bishop (Who got 50 last week)

I'll remember all of them, and all my other favorite characters and the times I had.

I'll remember all the people here and how they influenced me as a person. Mostly oreso, whose constant nudging to 'do things now' made my characters more likeable not just for everyone else, but also for me.

I'll never forget the 3, nearly 4 years of super awesome time i've had here, and i'm glad to stay in contact with all the friends i've made, and hopefully play some other games with them as well (Not just MMOs, get Dungeon Defenders, or Killing Floor. Seriously)

Edit: I also remember my proper, ever actual character. It was made on a friend's account when he was showing me the game, I THINK he was called Shade Blade or something like that.

After that, my first character on the Union server was Kronicus, who never made it to 50, mainly because I didn't understand the mechanics fully, and that to me, Inv/SS was pretty dull.

I now have 44 characters, all of whom i'll wish a fond farewell. Their adventures, and future adventures, will live on with me.

Long live Paragon City! (And the Isles, and Prae- ... oh)
  8. I remember how hilariously Reactive Interface was bugged when it came out. My AR/Dev Blaster had the time of his life
  9. I'll likely be going to Champions. It's not even a SHADOW compared to City of Heroes, but honestly, for me, it's the next best thing. I love customizing characters to insane lengths and, with City of Heroes fading away, that basically leaves Champions.

Either that or World of Warcraft. I would say The Old Republic, but I honestly can't get into it.

A few of my CoH friends are going to the likes of DDO and LotrO, so I may give them another bash.

But none of them will ever fill the void ...

  11. Yo dawgs, I posted semi-regularly around here and played on the Union server, under the global handle @Aerial Assault. I'm 19 years of age and live in the North East of England.

I was looking for a picture, and this is the most recent, non creepy one I found:

Note that i'm looking my 'best' there
  12. Someone said to me "It's just a game."

Is it? Something you dedicate years of your life to is 'just a game'? City of Heroes was, and always will be more than that. I met some amazing people here, who i'll be keeping in contact with. I've learned things that apply to RL situations (How to write stories, make interesting looking characters) and lots of other things.

So I agree with the thread title. This 'game' is like a 2nd life, and it'll be gut-wrenching to see it go, and all the awesome people with it.
  13. Thank you and all the Devs for being the best Development Team ever.

I've never played a game where the relationship between players and developers has been so strong.

I doubt i'll ever play a game with the same relationship again.

    Good luck in your travels!

    This please.
  15. I'm gunna miss the forums. I'd log in every day to see what drama was going on. Where will I get my drama from now?!
  16. Oh good. Even though I am unable to attend, I didn't want the whole thing to be called off
  17. What'll happen with this considering the news?
  18. No words can explain this feeling.
  19. I think this thread has run it's course: The OP made a suggestion, gets negative comments, OP responds negatively, more backlash, ???, talk about Batman.
  20. Times when Trip Mine is useful:

BAF: Prisoners stage or a 'Courtyard' run. Heck, even a 'Separation' run.

UG: Knowing where the waves spawn and placing a Mine or two there. Better yet, place them around the area your team is holding!

Keyes: Place them in the bunkers or spawn points, or on the generators AM flies to.

TPN: Place them at the feet of the technicians, or where the tanks drag the spawns to. Also: Put them where Maelstrom spawns.

Those are just iTrials as well! Most 'vanilla' Task Forces offer many opportunities to use Trip Mine to great effect!

You seem to be getting the usage of Trip Mine wrong. Trip Mine, generally, isn't supposed to be used in the heat of combat (Even then, with a good tank and caltrops, you can still pull it off). You're supposed to place them where you know, or predict enemies will spawn or arrive thickest.

And, despite your claim of 'No one waits for minefields to be set up', in the 3 years i've had my AR/Dev character, not once has someone NOT let him set up a minefield. A well-placed minefield can destroy an entire spawn, or demolish an AV's health.

Devices plays so much more differently than any other Blaster Secondary, it's easy to see where the 'weak' idea comes from. Devices is about preparation, and hindering enemies rather than all out damage.
  21. If i'm honest, I don't think Paragon could've got the F2P more right.

When Freedom launched, I dumped a lot of money to get to T9 (I won't discuss how much). At the time, there was little reason to do so, except for more perks and Celestial armor.

Now though, un-subbing would lose me a lot of stuff.

I don't feel like a "VIP", being carried everywhere, offered free expensive drinks () but I definitely feel like i'm getting my money's worth. Which is a good enough feeling for me.

If you're not feeling "VIP", then maybe you've been taking the word "VIP" a bit too literally. Really, all that makes a VIP special is all the stuff that comes part of their subscription, which in the long run is likely cheaper than having to buy -every- new release.
  22. So far, the Free for VIP powersets are (Or are going to be):

    Dark Control
    Dark Assault
    Darkness Affinity
    Martial Combat
    Martial Assault

All of which are (or were) HIGHLY requested powersets. For a meagre $15 (£10 for me) a month, you get them plus:

    Several costume sets
    Complete access to SSA arcs
    First Ward AND Night Ward
    Alignment System
    Inventions and Auction House
    New Incarnate Story Arcs
And some more i'm probably forgetting.

Your sub now gets you more than ever before. The paid-for stuff? Well ... Paragon has to make business somehow! Subs alone won't make up for the amount of effort they're putting in these days.

Even for a T9 like me, if I un-subbed i'd still lose a lot. Enough stuff to keep me subbed.

And finally: *Obligatory throw-away 'Entitlement' message*
  23. It's funny, because most people i've talked to like the new Skulls.

EXCEPT the club hair-do. That's basically it.
  24. On the front line of the Paragonian Watch

    Liberty Force save the day!

Despite the ruining of their reputation and apparent disbandment, yesterday came as a shock as it appeared the team were back out on the streets.

And not a moment too soon. Around Paragon, members of the known meta-criminal cult known as the Forged Conclave launched raids all across the Paragon Area. The area around Waxachie Park, just off Steel Canyon suffered millions of dollars worth of damage due to Conclave invaders.

However, just when all hope was lost, Liberty Force swooped in! The Force put up a courageous battle against the Conclave forces in Waxachie Park. Though the battle lasted for a while, eventually the Force put them into retreat. The Force weren't done there!

Quick on their heels, the Force followed them back to an enormous stronghold. They sweeped through each room, taking down any and all opposition. They found one of the higher leaders of the Conclave and found the information they needed to prevent the summoning of the Conclave's patron demigod, the King.

The details are sketchy, but it is believed that here, where the Conclave were strongest, that Liberty Force dealt the final blow.

During this, another member of Liberty Force, believed to be one of the main accused of vigilante activities, and a unknown hero, swept through Paragon, fighting down the Conclave wherever they found them. It is believed that they even fought down a physical avatar of the King!

Regardless of your opinion on Liberty Force, without a doubt, they saved Paragon City from yet another invasion.

As a personal note from this writer: Thank you, Liberty Force, for being there in our time of need. - Juliana Bakes
  25. 18th of August, 10am, outside the King's Row PPD precinct

Across various early morning news programs, it is tuned in to a speech to be given by Harold Simmons, regarding the crushing victory over the Conclave the day before.

Simmons approaches the podium and microphones set up, wearing a formal suit and tie and wearing a pair of golden aviators. He gives the cameras a wave and a smile as citizens in the background cheer.

"Before I begin, I would like to give my thanks to Paragon's many and fine services. The PPD, National Guard, Longbow and Vanguard all did the City proud in defending them from the Conclave forces."

A few more cheers from the crowd, and Simmons gives them a wave and smile.

"I am pleased to confirm that me and my team were able to prevent the Conclave from summoning their patron deity, the King, into our world and on our doorstep. With our efforts, we have decimated their ranks, shattered their leadership and neutralized their resources. The few cultists that made it out will now be without any safe haven, any leadership and with no resources. I believe this is the end of this threat."

The crowd cheer and cameras flash some more.

    "I'll be taking any questions."

The assembled journalists shout for his attention, and he points to the journalist from the Paragonian Watch.

"Juliana Bakes, Paragonian Watch. Is it true that you were fighting alongside members of the disbanded and shamed Liberty Force?"

"Without naming names, yes. They did an outstanding service to Paragon and the rest of the world and their reputation should not be used to slander their hard fought battle. Next question."

"Gerald Timmings, City Ear. Some have said that your methods against the Conclave were too extreme. What do you say to this?"

"I say, Gerald, that nothing is too extreme where the Conclave are involved. Adding to the fact that the majority of them are in fact machines, I believe that the measures we took were sufficient to end the threat at hand. Next question."

"Susanna McRena, New City Weekly. What will you be doing with the King's Scepter? Many have said that it's powers should be used for good and given over to MAGI, who, I will say, comment that they have not received it. Being a mag-"

"I am not answering any questions pertaining to the usage or storage of the Scepter. Final question."

"Quincy Shae, Morning Post. Liberty Force have been, more or less, branded as a group of vigilantes. You yourself have shown to have a disdain of vigilantes. Is this a new turn of thinking?"

"I am not answering any questions on the nature of Liberty Force's workings, however, I will repeat that the work they did yesterday was of outstanding quality and saved many, many lives. That's all."

Simmons exits the podium, where several cameras continue to follow. The journalists at his heels continue to hound him with questions, to which he calmly responds each time "I am not answering any more questions." He gets into a expensive vehicle with tinted windows, and pulls away from the cameras.
