I'd just like to say I am a massive RP snob and this thread makes me feel like committing suicide.

I know you meant Morgan Freeman, who's got a great voice for that sort of thing. But it's funny if it's Gordon Freeman, since he never speaks in Half-Life.

After reading this entire thread carefully, I find a need to respond.
I RP on Virtue. I even have a demon and a half-demon character.
DV, I ask a simple question not in anger, but in the same, soft, soothing voice I use on my four year old caught climbing the bookshelf (again). I preface this so you and everyone understands there is no anger or vitriol in my sincerity.
Which almighty of the Powers That Be gave you the wherewithal to say I don't play my character properly? I do not recall asking your opinion on such a matter, so why would you attack me or any other person who chooses to play such and not expect to get flack? Who or what you play on your own time is none of my concern. So long as you do not defecate on my RP, I will remain civil, at the very least, with you.
I reread your inital post, just to be clear. No where did you mention this might be something for a hypothetical discussion. No where did you say "Let's discuss a 'What If' moment." No. All you did was insult all players on Virtue who happen to have a demonic character and an ambiguous reference that this occured for the entirety of the Virtue RP Community.
In these two instances is where you started off in setting the poorly chosen tone of your post. I happen to have several friends who are ESL, and they always not only proofread and spellcheck, but also appreciate feedback on what they write.
For the record... I have never played any other MMO besides CoX. Continuing such presumptive insults only serves to mark you as a possible troll posting just because you feel some perverse pleasure in perpetually provoking the player base.
Please, do yourself a favor and reread what you post from the viewpoint of someone who does not share your views before hitting the Post Reply button.

BTW I play a demon character on Virtue that has no ties to Infernal or the CoT or whatever. She was summoned in a botched ritual (yeah yeah, this was way before this year's v-day event) and is therefore pretty much free to do whatever she wants for as long as she wants.

Its just about people taking offense to one paticular idea put forth, then making personal attacks. Thats it. People spewing ignorance and hate and admitting to it and thinking it appropriate.
As far as I am concerned Ive won the war by converting a single player who actually bothered to come meet my character in game and once working through the initial animosity he now has made his own character Statesman Beyond which I applaud.

This is where you show your ignorance. You cant play copyrighted material from sources not owned by NC SOFT. The only rule to using in game lore for names is not using DEV/ADMIN related names and being clear to express that your just another player not anyway connected with DEV/ADMIN representives. For example if I was on my hypothetical marcus cole and saying I was really Jack, that would likely get me into hot water for more then the character name. This is FACT deal with it and the fact you didnt think to use names from it first as its clear to me that is the real source of your animosity at this point. No, but I'm sure doing so is on the list. Make that character yourself, then send a petition asking if there is anything wrong with your name, since its about yourself they are free to respond and right quick typicaly within 3 days by my experiance. Heck if your really wondering even do a work around to see if that flies like swapping the L with an upper case i. then you can know firsthand rather then harrass me mkay bud.
I'd say the main reasons most of the responses have been so negative here is that you put this in the general discussions forum instead of the role playing forum, and linked to that, you speak of your role-playing in absolutes as if it's official canon.
No one's really caring about what you're deciding to role play (well ok, most people), it's just that your method of delivery was kind of... off. It just got worse when you dug your heels in and got defensive.
