Cracked.com and sexist costuming in comics
I saw that this morning but haven't read it yet. I admit, the moment I saw the headline, this game's art direction leaped straight into my mind.
I'd say the redesigned Harley Quinn from the Suicide Squad trumps that entire list.
"I saw my advantage and took it. That's what heroes do." - Homer Simpson.
I think the writer is just picking on things that are popular for the most part rather than having actually looked at the reality...
Power Girl's explanation works
Starfire's retcon is genius as a meta critque if you read red hood which seems to be a meta critique
Wonder Woman is a common go to and is completely wrong, but whatever
Sue's costume change actually works best when you think about it 3 dimmensionally. She got her powers because she felt "invisible" it only makes sense that she'd try to spice up her clothing to feel less so especially when she is around a giant boulder man, a human torch, and a guy that get's wrapped up in things that she is trying to get busy with.
Namor was just thrown in to throw off hate mail writers and to discuss a point which is less than well done, but still true more or less.

I don't find any of it sexist. Battle retarded? Yeah. Then again, if you're nearly indestructible or have powers that can keep sharp objects from piercing your skin (or what little clothing you have on) then why not flaunt?
It's sexy to me, and I would wear something flashy just the same.
Nice bod? Yeah, I know. You're welcome for the eye candy.
I always look at it from the Dr. Manhattan point of view. When you're powerful enough, things like clothes just don't matter anymore. Follow his look chronologically through Watchmen. He starts out in a full-body suit, then transitions to briefs and a tank top, then down to just the briefs, then down to a weird man-thong thing, and finally he just says "Eff it, I'm Dr. Manhattan, I'm going buck nekkid".
If I was that powerful and that ripped, I'd probably run around in as little as possible too.

Well if you want to talk sexist costumes and improbable/impossible anatomical artwork it gets no better or worse then Rob Liefeld. (Though the current Amazing Spiderman artists run a close second)

Because if I have to climb down into a sewer? Ya, I ain't going barefoot, regardless of any invulnerability. *shudder*
How? If her explanation worked, she would instead have a big blank white space there instead of a big hole. You sew an emblem into the clothes, not into a hole you create for some absurd reason.

or
That reason makes sense on Earth 2!

That reason makes sense on DC Earth, because it's not RL Earth!

Obviously, no one has respect for Renee Montoya. Her pants are very sexist.
Starfire's retcon is a travesty. Thankfully, Catwoman and Voodoo are much better balances of sexy and complee badass. Though, Catwoman is becoming too buxom for me to believe she is a post-Olympic level athlete that can pull off <insert insane dexterity technique>.
Let's assume that I am not reading Red Hood.

Starfire is dressed in as few clothes as possible and is sexed up and forgets everything every 5 minutes yet the next issues she is very conservative.
Jason in issue 3 knows the memory he lost and also says he doesn't want it back even though it's his most precious memory
There are 2 new organizations both of which have names like they are making fun of the fact that there are ton of new secret new organizations
if you read into it is sounds like Lobdell is giving us his opinion on the DCnU and making fun of it to a degree, but it could also just be that he's really really really just including all those bad points from those other comics and my brain just broke during issue 3 and started to make stuff up to protect itself from the shear badness of it ^.^

personally i think the whole issue is rather stupid as there is nothing wrong with it to begin with and people are just trying to **** shame a fictional character when there are analogues in fashion in both the real world and in the comic world that are more exposed or similarly exposed.
I don't see the point of going "you're just trying to show off your chest!" and I don't see it as a valid argument. You're talking about fashion. The whole point of fashion in the modern world is to be aesthetically pleasing either to show off what you have or to hide it so it looks like you don't have it. So going "You're just doing it to make yourself look good" is a "Reallly? I wouldn't have guessed!" moment.
But then as some have pointed out... it's actually Power Girl being more conservative than she has to be because clothes are a functional and for Power Girl they serve no function so she's not walking around naked just to not show off as much as she could because she'd get problems... In other words her not showing off is causing what she is trying to cause not to happen if she did show off...
Its difficult to add anything new to *this* conversation, but I'll point out that the last part of the article is the part that I've always found the most interesting about the subject: specifically the point of view that some people have that objectifying women is objectionable to women, but objectifying men is not objectionable to men so the situation is simply axiomatically unfair.
That's a very interesting point of view to have, where in this case "interesting" is a synonym for "pathologically strange to the point of warranting further study."

Quite right.
Let's be honest, the only reason Clark Kent doesn't fly around naked is because he was raised by a conservative Kansas family.
Batman wears head-to-toe armor, and even applies a metallic substance to his lower face to protect him. Why? BECAUSE HE ISN'T BULLETPROOF.
It's only by the grace of Earth culture that Power Girl isn't naked as a jay bird while beating criminals to a pulp. If you were being honest, that's actually a mistake! Earth-based villains would be really confused when they look up and a nude Kryptonian lands on them.
For all the people that argue, "Well, if I had a hot body and invulnerability, *of course* I'd want to show off as much skin as possible, even being naked!" I wonder how many of them are women.
Oh, sure, there probably are women who say that... but in what percentage to the general population of women?

Women do have a particular advantage, or disadvantage in this area though. Men's fashion tends to be more conservative, and most men are not exposed involuntarily to the segment of mens fashion that is more unconventional. Women's fashion, on the other hand, is twelve kinds of crazy and girls are exposed to it almost from birth. This I think numbs a lot of women to the point of having little to no notion of what "conventional" is, and that makes most women less inclined to dismiss any fashion option as being totally ludicrous from the start.
I know women that practically dress their husbands when they go out because they simply don't trust them not to wear something wrong, then turn to these same people they think are walking fashion lobotomies and say "does this top look good with this skirt?" That's how crazy women's fashion makes women, they'll ask the brain dead for second opinions.
Some women do this just because they like hearing they look good of course, but others genuinely aren't sure.

There are people, men and women, who ask the same question about a lot of women's fashion. It isn't just super heroines dressing in miniskirts and boots unironically. Fashion has its own Rule 34: whatever you can dream up, someone out there will wear it no matter how unusual, provocative, or impractical.

I have especially noticed the lack of knowing what conventional is in the 22 or so age group of women. I see this from the women my sons are around.Often I want to ask am I supposed to see your thong ? I am from that generation that thinks underwear is - well under.
