Comic Relief
Something like this thing would be awesome for Beam Rifle.
And in the same vein, how about an ostrich for Titan Weapons
Street signs for ax/mace/shield would be fun too. Bonus points if misspellings of the signs are also included, like Sop, Yeld, and One Vay.
SWIMMY FLIPPERS!
... Yes, I have a costume in mind.
A giant eyeball as a head. Useful for Rularuu-themed characters. Or fans of the Residents.
34 heroes,
20 villains, Victory, Justice, Infinity, Virtue, Triumph, Exalted -- some more active than others
This is a song about a super hero named Tony. Its called Tony's theme.

How about the "Do It Yourself" costume look?
Examples:
1) Data, from The Goonies. He had a trenchcoat bursting with his inventions, some sticking out of the coat. It had things made from everyday supplies, like his belt.
2) Stupendous Man (or, any kid ever). Towel for a cape, rag with holes cut out for a cowl, perhaps the underwear on the outside, some rubber rain boots, or rubber gloves for a different character. Household objects for "weapons", like the bathroom plunger, or a toy gun.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

I only just saw it in your Gender Equality thread, but I'd put a vote in for gender-reversed costumes.
As soon as I saw Zapp Brannigan and his little tunic, I grinned enormously. I say encourage the smeg out of this. If you're going to be ludicrious, do it right, as the Pythons would say.
Ludicrous knights with flower swords (and shrubberies!), the /coconut emote for that all important horse sound, and you're on the road to success (or at least the BBC). With all due respect to the Americans, few do ludicrous visuals quite better than the British.
Any stereotype you can skewer deserves a run here.

Sorry for the comparison, but that's the only way I felt I could make my point (in which I'm probably alone in feeling the way I do).

Maybe too specialized, but a bell helmet would be awesome. FEAR THE TERRIFYING WRATH OF DOCTOR BONG!

Go old school (input from a RL old man). Pie in the face, squirting flower, whoopie cushion, etc.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.
I'm generally not a big fan of comic relief characters in game. Simply because most of them aren't very 'comic' i.m.o. Of course there always are people who do manage to pull it off.
That said I'm not opposed to a costume pack based on this theme. As long as there's a towel cape. Yes, there must be a towel cape.

Incidentally, I don't this necessarily has to be a costume pack. Could easily be a series of one-offs.

The towel cape did give me an idea of a person who uses everyday objects to try and make himself look like a superhero. For example when children uses a towel as a cape, or curtains as an outfit and a pillow as a shield . . .

Why do people diss the clown mastermind powerset? It was a good idea. Joker is popular you know.
Giant Fish weapons (possible Carp) for Broadsword and Katana with a Swordfish for Titan weapons.
What? You knew it was going to happen... |
Edit: Also clown mastermind only if they show up in a tiny car.

Propeller beanies.
If emotes count: An emote where you drink a vial, then turn into a tiny version of yourself. Tiny-you throws down the vial, stomps in obvious anger, then falls over and does the Ghoul death-tantrum emote until turning back to normal in a puff of smoke.

Regretably, I think most folks' experience with the genre is from a Buffalo Bill-type source.

@Noble Savage, please make sure that if you guys ever include First Nations costume pieces (I'm not assuming you'd do this for a joke thing, but as a possible thing in the future), you be careful. Pop culture gives them enough crap, half by assuming they're not actually real.

Also, I always thought one of the striped capes (can't remember the name, it's the pattern that Dr. Quantum uses) looked like a big beach towel when it's white and blue.
I'd prefer more old style, almost cornball elements for costumes. I like my villains cheesy and have a fondness for retro (as anyone who looks at my characters can tell). Also, I prefer less "wacky" things and more kinda goofy stuff we can use for non-silly things. The brain-in-the-jar was perfect of this: sure, it's completely screwball, but can it's SO comics, it was awesome. I just love it when we capture the sheer weirdness and over-the-topness of comics, rather than going for just something that can only be silly. So stuff I'd like:
Ming the Merciless capes and fringes
Backpacks or arm bits or whatever that look like they came off a Tesla coil (heck, you could probably make a whole Tesla pack building on that theme with just themed parts for back, shoulders, arms, chest, hands, feet, etc)
Barnstormer jackets (I'd love a tights chest pattern that used a retro/barnstormer design)
Big, 1930s style rayguns for beam weapons (and dual pistols)
Brass diving bell helmets
The big wooden Carnie mallet scaled up for Titan Weapons
A rocket feet travel aura: when you fly or jump (but not running around normally), you have these little flames and contrails coming out of the bottom of your feet, like you had rocket boosters. Would be great for a lot of fliers and superjumpers, especially the tech-based ones.
Gorilla head, of course.
On a more serious (in a joke costume piece thread? How obtuse!), take the Brain Tank design, remove the bowl and instead put a kitten infront of tiny lever controls (or failing that, a keyboard). Call it the Catmando head piece. |
