You mean something like this?

Yes this is from a real game. I don't think I can say much more without getting into trouble

"And for us this is the end of all stories, and we can mostly say they lived happily ever after. But for them it was the beginning of the real story. All there life in this world and all there adventures in Narnia had only be the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of The Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before" - C.S Lewis, The Last Battle.

I wholeheartedly endorse the idea of silly costume pieces.

Sooooo many possible uses, from Deadpool to Howard the Duck, Captain Carrot to the Inferior Five.

Lots of great ideas so far, so I'll just add a couple right now.

These guys (or any fruit, really- banana, pineapple, etc):

Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

I've always seen comic relief as a crutch plot device used by poor writers to balance out the drama of a heavy story where they are incapable of doing so in a dramatically appropriate fashion. Maybe I'm just jaded on the matter, but when you say "comic relief" I think "Chris Tucker" or "Chris Rock" and proceed to jam my TV remote into my face and try to change the channel.

If we're looking to inject more humour into the game - and I'm not as violently against that - then I'd say we should shoot at something that's amusing, but we can still take at least somewhat seriously. For instance, the cute space parasite you had on your Retro Sci-Fi suit may appear to some to be humorous, but it's still a space parasite that has bored through its victim's skull, thus if I wanted to treat it with dramatic weight, I could. A guitar as a Battle Axe option is... Kind of skirting the line. I wouldn't normally think I'd want it, but L4D2's Dark Carnival has convinced me otherwise, in the sense this sort of unorthodox weaponry can bring some degree of levity to an otherwise serious situation without actually breaking its overall tone.

Personally, if we're talking about humorous themes, I'd always want to view them through the lens of dramatic storytelling and a realistic environment. It's less a question of "What would be funny if City of Heroes were a slapstick cartoon?" and more a question of "What would humorous in this fairly believable world without taking us out of the experience?" Goofy Freakshow and zany Rikti ain't it, lemme' tell ya! But I actually honestly do find Flambeaux entertaining just because the in-game world is aware of her ridiculousness and treats her accordingly. She stands out as much because she's funny as because everyone around her is pretty much sick of her shtick.

I honestly don't think I can can suggest actual "comic relief" costumes or themes simply because I don't like comic relief, but let me just say that I don't find the Think Tank in the slightest funny. It's a disembodied brain. I like it so much not because it makes me laugh, but rather because it enables some pretty gruesome characters to exist in a much more visceral way.
Well, Sam, I'd very kindly like you to take a deep breath and ignore this thread for the rest of its continuity.

This game is full of homages, shout-outs, humor and other little tidbits along with a healthy dose of drama and the like. Just because you have this particular taste to go along with all of your other particular "needs" in this game (and I want you to realize this because it's important) is not a reason for the developers and art department to avoid looking into these ideas.

For crap's sake, we have bunny ears! And not tied-back Usagi Yojimbo bunny ears, either. They're gag bunny ears, like Bugs Bunny.

And a bunny tail.

--------

There's a difference between "Need" and "Want." For art resources, almost everything that deals with player character costume design falls pretty hard in the "Want" column. They are things that would be cool to have, would allow us further customization for our characters, but wouldn't necessarily wind up being good pieces for everybody to use.

So, since this is a thread for what players want, I'm going to say I want a miniature version of Jurassik's Hammer (the car on girders). Before, the option was Warmace. NOW, the option is Titan Weapons, which is a spectacular place for Jurassik's Hammer.

My Stories

Look at that. A full-grown woman pulling off pigtails. Her crazy is off the charts.

I'm all for anything that's not obnoxious. Guitar axe? That's cool. Oversized squeaky mallet? GO TO HELL, ******* MALLET

Basically, if you can picture it in your head without hearing a slide whistle, I'll probably approve.

For the comic releif I would step away from costume peice and see if you could set up a system for alternate death animations.. rather then just falling over you could do a varity of effects from the humorous like turning someone into a chicken via a beam rifle, to the awesome leaving a pile of ash behind rather then a defeated foe, or a flash of light like they were teleported away.

This would allow for comic features (like an april first event where everything defeated turns into a box.. that leads to either a reward or a fist popping out of the box something along those lines), to actual features that could be used to futher customization of powers.

In terms of comical parts for the meer sake of comical parts.. I think it would take away from the game personally to see people running around smacking foes with a carp, or fencing with swordfish and things of that nature. The joke would be like the old Wassup comercials. funny at first and annoying after a while when you sobered up.

Once added you couldn't really remove them so I think they would wear thin quickly.

I'd love to see an "April Fool's" pack made up mostly of shtick. The arrow-through-the-head gag, with or without the obvious headband; Groucho glasses; big, plastic flower as a chest detail; a clown nose; Carp Melee weapons; that kind of thing.
And maybe, if there's time, some wingtips? Mapped so you can make them two-tone?

I think a Hockey Stick for the swords would be awesome (Swing from the butt end, and use the "Blade" to hit with).

It's a pity it'd probably be a hassle to work out, because I still say shooting sonic powers out of a guitar would be awesome.

I'm for more options, whatever they may be. However, I don't really consider the halloween pack we got to be "comic relief". To me, the Think Tank piece isn't funny, it's awesome! The fish-man pieces, despite being a woefully incomplete set, were also awesome. The snake hair *would* have been awesome if it were animated.

Now, a giant anime piko-hammer for Titan Weapons would be hilarious... and I'd snatch it up in a second. Less than a second if it squeaked when hitting things.

Well, a an axe-guitar would be intersting. But what about guitars as a 'weapon' for sonic sets? Not to mention the other idea I'd had as a 'weapon option' for sonic-based sets: a Bullhorn. THAT makes perfect sense to me. And would be pretty amusing to boot.

Make them an option under Power Customization, and voila, instant sonic hijinks!

Actually, I just remembered something I've been joking about in game that's perfect for this thread.

Add two minor powers to the Devolution Secondary Mutation, aka, The Monkey, available only when you 'monkey'.

First off: Brawl. Aka, Monkey Slap!

And even better: Throw Rock. Why? Simple. Imagine the sound as it connects being a 'splat' rather than a 'thunk'. Now you get what I mean?

Yeah. That'd be hilarious, in my humble opinion.

I'm assuming you'd be like me, and not only want invisible heads, but have it as a 'face' option, perhaps, so that Hats, Hoods, Helmets, etc, could be used with it.

Of course, the tech would scream bloody murder, so I'm not sure they could do that. But, if they could, I'd pay money for it. Sounds cool to me.

Not wanting to sound mean or something... but sorry, it´s just too hilarious (for me) when people really are afraid of clowns.

For your own sake, stay the hell away from me.
Scared of them? No.

Creeped and weirded out by them? Yes.

The only good clowns I've ever seen were Cirque de Soleil.

Okay, other suggestions: cutesy pictures for the chest symbols. Like cherries, rainbows (as well as they can be done with two colours, anyway), bunnies, etc.
