Just looked in AH under Recipes, under Other, and there is a recipe for Maelstrom's Pistols. It is a purple, no history, 21 bidders.

This just get added today, or has it been there, and I missed it?

According to Zwillinger in beta, it's a drop from the TPN Trial. Since the update was made, but the trial isn't enabled, they probably just didn't sync the market listings to reflect that.

I noticed it a couple days ago.. my guess is it was released with 21.5. It's a reward for defeating Maelstrom in the TPN trial a certain way I think.

Well. That's not a throwback to the idea of running a raid over and over for a chance at a drop, no sir.

This could be nice for my Kinetic/DP Defender, but she's only in her 30's.

A purple, non-IO recipe, that's new though. I wonder if this would restrict a lower-level character from building the recipe at all (are there any other such examples?)

at least we get individual chances to drop here lol

Is it clear that it is a costume drop or a temp power?

As a costume drop, why even bother with a 1/100 chance to get a drop on a limited number of AT and powersets that could use it. Even if they can auction it.

If a temp power, then the DP characters that have wanted this may be disappointed that they can't have it for their costumes.

Seems like a lose/lose approach.

We needed more items that sell for more than the inf limit.

I'm also suddenly reminded of MVP card drops from Ragnarok Online.

It's listed as Costume Piece: Maelstrom's Pistol, so I'm guessing it is a costume drop.

I do not think there are any examples that currently exist. Though, it may work like other purple recipes: sure, you can email the recipe, the necessary salvage, and the necessary influence to yourself and craft it on a level 10 toon, but you won't be able to slot the thing until level 47. You may not be able to use the pistols unless you are level 50, like the Ascendant Armor.

I'm much in the same category. This is costume recipes all over again, complete with extreme rarity. We all saw how popular THOSE were, but I guess the siren's call of making costume pieces into rare loot is too strong for any developer to resist.

So BABs makes a thread about new pistol models before Dual Pistols is released, leaves, no-one ever looks at the thread, we continually request new custom pistols, and a year and a half after the fact... We get an extremely rare pistol drop from a specific raid. And it's not even all that good.

Did I fall over backwards into 2009 or something?

I'd say some of the gunslinger models looks like output from that thread.

Well it depends how the drop is calculated. If it's a 1% drop randomly assigned to a league member then yeah it's going to be an inf cap item. However if it's a 1% drop chance rolled separately for each league member then there's going to be a reasonable number of them entering the market (about one for every four raids). It'll still be pricey at first but if TPN is reasonably popular it should drop in price to something reasonable (my guess would be around the 100 million mark).

isn't this like.. the first NEW costume piece recipe added ever since they went live all those years ago? If you ask me that's a whole aspect of the Invention system they should have been fleshing out as much as the IO system itself has.. but it just kind of..sat there forgotten by everyone that didn't use Wings.

Not to worry, I'm sure we'll be able to buy it from the store too.

Or rather, costume invention recipes tend to be ill recieved by players.

Basically, players don't like having to wait past character creator to have the costume they envision.

A bit less of a worry when it comes to some items, that they can just enter tutorial, claim and be done with after crafting, but wait longer than that? That's kinda suckie.

I made a new fire character specifically to use the new Flame decal, I know I didn't care for waiting till after tutorial to use it

I don't mind it being a drop but I strongly disagree with it being a 1/100 chance drop. It should be an extra reward for completing the trial, not something you hope to get someday with lots of love from the RNG or happen to hit it on the market.

Though didn't someone say it's an account unlock and not per character? Or was that just a suggestion?

Just a quick correction since I bumped into this once. Purple enhancements are not slottable until you are level 50. They don't work like others where you can slot them 3 levels lower.

I'm HOPING in this case the 'purple' of the recipe refers to the rarity of the drop and not the level- none of the other cotume peices have level gates on their use.

It should be awarded with a badge for completing the trial, just like every other unlockable weapon in the sodding game. If they're going to get a costume piece, at least they could have used precedent. Having it as a random rare drop just makes it feel like an armor or weapon drop from any other grindy MMO raid ever.

that depends if you consider the ascension armor set lol, both the radiance and normal ascension armors are only useable at lvl 50

im sure your prolly just talking about the invention costume recipes lol

As some have already said; yes it's a costume piece and, yes, at first it was a chance of a drop when completing the TPN trial.

However, I think when I was on a TPN trial in beta and we completed it, Arbiter Hawk asked, "anyone get any purple recipe drops?"

He was hinting at that but no one got a drop so he said it was going to be a drop. I'm not sure of the chance; the way I remember it, it seemed like it would have a fair chance of dropping....or at least better than a 1% chance.

But I, too, don't understand the random chance for it; only 3 ATs can use the costume piece so....*shrugs*
