To hit debuffs are great in theory and again in theory are very close to the same thing as defense. Diamagnetic can stack 4 times so in theory you can get a 20% to hit debuff out of it.
The problem I always see is delivery and resistance. You need to deliver that to hit debuff to all the targets that are hitting you to have it make a difference. At the Tier 3 and 4 levels you can get the to hit debuff chance very high so everything you hit gets it but that only applies to things you hit. Targets you don't hit due to staying a range or target caps don't get the debuff and thus can hit you unmodified. Also some targets resist the to hit debuff (AVs especially but some others) and thus you don't get the full benefit.
Most of the time Diamagnetic will slow down the damage you receive in a sustained fight but won't help much in the beginning. If you are able to survive the opening attacks but finding yourself wittled down through the fight then it might help but you are usually better off finding ways to kill things faster (meaning reacitve interface) to solve this rather then to hit debuffs.
I would say the regneration debuff portion is the more important on for Diamagnetic but is also to small to stand up against the double barrel shotgun that reactive is (resistance debuff and damage over time). -
After further study I think this is just in mission DE. I posted this because I had run several tip missions and the "Prevent Shadowhunter's Resserection" mission from Maira Jenkins all on x8 and only saw the cairns. I have seen devouring earth lieutenants outside these missions drop the other pets since I posted this but those inside don't (at least the level 45-50 tips Coulomb2 reports that the lower level tip DE do drop others).
Someone mentioned that the devouring earth in the tip mission were the praetorian DE with elevated to hit, I confirmed the elevated to hit using the combat analyzer III temp power. -
I've noticed recently that the DE Lieutenants don't seem to be bringing out their pets other then the Granite (Cairn).

Quote:That could be. Last I heard it was at: there is no way to move them but if you could the boosters would be lost.I believe you can un-boost the enhancers to move them once boosted. I have not rolled into enhancement boosting yet.
Someone else will have clarify that. The wiki is down for the protest so I can't see if they changed the page on the boosters. -
You don't need to craft the recipie given to you to complete the turtorial. If you take one with some high priced salvage in it you can then craft another one and go sell the salvage and make up the price of having to buy the recipie easily or just use a recipie that drops to do it.
That said I do think you need to craft one of the recipies from the list and that just any old recipie won't work but there 4-5 options there if I recall correctly. -
Most of the points of your question were covered by others.
The only thing I will add is that you can get the same benefit of the store bought enhancements for the most part by taking minimum level enhancements from the set and boosting them 5 times using the boosters. Level 25 enhancements reach very close but slightly below level 50 ones, level 30 enhancements will exceed level 50 enhancments by a little bit. The two sets you can't do this with were Basilisk's Gaze and Eradication (both level 10-30), for these the store bought ones are vastly superior to anything you can achieve in the game.
Once boosted they are bound to that character and can't even be sent to other toons of yours like the store bought ones can however.
If you are not a tier 9 subscriber you will have to determine the price of the 5 boosters (200 PP for 5) and cost of getting min level enhancements of a set vs just buying the store ones.
Edit: Just checked and most store bought enhancment pieces are 100 PP so slotting minimum and boosting would only make sense if you are a tier 9 subscriber and can get the consumable 25 booster option. Otherwise the store bought enhancements are cheaper. -
Quote:I kind of flubbed my message. I was typing when the enter league thing came up so I stopped, clicked enter then tried to finish it but ended up with two messages combined into one. I immediatly went to fix that and posted a second message it was then that I saw your use it and your gone message and then the leage entered the trial.Given that I was juggling tells, announcing the trial on global channels, and barely keeping up with questions about how to actually do the trial. I didn't see your request about Incandescence. Sorry.
Heck, I didn't even want to lead the trial, and many of the posters in this thread know why from my past posting history.
And that is when I guessed you planned to use it.
And you said that as the league was mid-queue and no one would have had a chance to change their TP prompt settings at the Gull. (edit: ok, players could have changed their options as well.)
I can respect how busy you were and how leadership was thrust at you. Heck it was out of respect for you as a player that I didn't immediatly just quit and go do something else upon entering the trial which I very much wanted to do after seeing your message.
Quote:And that was your warning not to use the power when I'm leading.
Quote:There were only two players that I would trust with that power last night. Myself and one other person (who actually beat everyone to the main rooms of the trial), we were both in voice communication. Incandescence introduces an unexpected and completely unwanted factor when I'm trying to stay ahead of both the game and the league to anticipate problems. Additionally, as an Illusionist, I'm pet heavy and have a lot of ground targeted powers so having a TP prompt in my face just gets me ticked off.
Quote:
No, and he didn't ask me after the trial was over either.
I think that not responding to a comment that wasn't -asking- why is completely understandable. If you had asked why, I would have asked you to wait until after the trial was finished and I would have told you my reasons for the warning.
It was a warning. Beyond that if you have a problem with a warning or any trial strategy I use and want to discuss the warning after a trial, I'm more than happy to do so when I'm not under a time constraint. -
I sent a tell saying I thought they were overly harsh but that I would comply. There was no response from them via teill or league chat. There were not overly communicative which I can understand since they were running the trial just thought a blunt use it and get kicked was rude. I can see the reasons you indicated but none of that seems like a kickable offense if someone where to use it on this trial at least.
-
Last night I joined a TPN trial. The leader announced we would be using what I call the blitz method where you ignore the outside stuff and simply go from building to building activating the terminals. I asked in league chat if they want the league TP (Incandescence) used. Getting no response I slotted the ability and announced I was going to use it so people could turn on their prompt if they didn't want it. The leage leader immediatly said in league chat that if I did they would kick me from the trial.
I must admit I was very taken aback. This leader was not some random person, they are very knowledgable about the game and trials but I can see no reason why the use of that destiny to help get everyone to the right place in the right building should be a kickable offense.
What am I missing about Incadescence on the TPN trial? Or the use of Incadescence in general? -
Quote:You probably should have read the whole bit I posted. Using what you said there (might as well just use this thread)
Hamidon 20%/33%
Luck of the Gambler (level 50) 15.9%/26.5%
Luck of the Gambler (level 50 boosted 5 times) 20%/33%
I am sorry, but a LotG is VASTLY cheaper than a hamidon enh, and far easier to get. And it is trivial to boost as well. So why should I run multiple LRSF/STF/raids to hopefully get something that is only as good as a much cheaper boosted IO? (edit: I can also buy aformentioned LotG with amerits or reward merits if I felt like it, instead of hard cash. I can't buy the hamio.)
I wouldn't.
If I could boost the hamio, then certainly I would.I did read what you said and noted that sets are cheaper in my post. My point is if they are the right type and you can get them using Hamidons while frankenslotting is better. You stated pretty clearly it was not and I saw the need to correct that so I did.
-
Quote:Your post didn't disappear it is here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=282072I posted elsewhere, but that thread seems to have disappeared? I got no notification why...
In any case, if they are going to fix hamios (which is fine, I already reslotted accordingly), can they at least give us the ability to +++++ boost them? Frankenslotting IOs is cheaper and has waaaaaaaay better effect than hamios now, since you can boost the IO sets, but you cant boost hamios. This makes hamios less attractive except in edge cases.
As I stated in that thread your point is somewhat misleading as Hamidons are superior to ordinary set pieces and equal to a fully boosted set piece. It may be cheaper to frankenslot with set pieces but using Hamidons is better if you can get them and the right one exists for what you need. -
OK I have to walk back my previous post a little.
It sounds like Hamidons have been tagged to act like normal enhancments for each of their parts now so if a power doesn't take a part that part won't affect a power.
If true then Active Defense (the example I used) won't have any use for the defense portion of membranes as Active Defense doesn't take defense.
Also mind link (as Mr. DJ asked about) would not take any recharge portion of Hamidons as that power doesn't accept recharge enhancements (sets with recharge would presumable still work in it). -
Quote:I agree, I have used Hamidon's in my builds for a long time. Any cone AOE benefits much more from slotting in a few of those cheap Dam/Range Hamidons. I use the Dam/Mez in things like Rise of the Phoenix or the ACC/Mez in single target immobilize powers that I have to take but don't want to slot. They still will be useful. I feel for anyone using Enzymes and/or bought any. This does is kill the Enzyme's value. This also probably increases Membrane and Cyto's values on the market in the future.
Not saying they will be as useful as before but they have their place and won't go completely away after they are fixed to work as they always were intended to work. -
Yes Membrans will enhance To Hit Buff (20%)/Defense (20%)/Recharge (33%).
They just will no longer also buff To Hit Debuffs or Defense Debuffs and may or may not be slottable into things like Active Defense or if slottable may or may not buff the DDR component of Active Defense. -
Quote:Possibly but I think the difference here is that Active Defense doesn't take any sets just normal IOs and not defense IOs. Therefore slotting defense in there through Hamidon enhancements was an exploit.I hypothesize that they might half-work the opposite way in something like Mind Link, which can normally be slotted for defense but not recharge, but I have not yet tested that.
Mind Link on the other hand doesn't take recharge but does take sets that include recharge in their components. There a few powers that work like that. Not sure if that was considered an exploit or just a extra benefit of the invention system -
I wouldn't read to much into that cover page yet. Everything you say could be true or they could have designed it to honor a fallen hero.

Yeah, personally I kept them all. To much utility in them to skip anything.
Defensive Sweep does great damage (if you hit mutiple targets as PleaseRecycle said), gives defense (smashing/melee) and is great for turning on momentum.
Crushing Blow is an OK single target attack and a great place to put a Achilles' Heel 20% resistance debuff proc. I throw it out a lot on bosses and other hard targets.
Titan Sweep is a very nice AOE and is my follow up to Whirling Smash and Arc of Destruction when fighting large groups
Follow Through does nice damage but requires momentum to use and thus is probably the most skippable one but I still keep it, slotted it with Kinetic Combat and use it a fair amount on bosses and other hard targets.
Rend Armor don't even consider skipping. In addition to having good damage this carries a resistance debuff and can also can carry a Achilles' Heel proc if you choose.
Whirling Smash is another mainstay. 360 15 foot AOE with 10 target cap. It cleans out groups fast when combined with the other AOEs
Arc of Destruction is the best power in the set. Damage that is great for single target attacks in an AOE power. Sure it only hits 5 but it can one shot most minions not resistant to smashing damage.
Edit: Forgot the other twoDon't skip Build Momentum. I skip Build Up powers occassionaly in scrapper/brutes but this one is vital to Titan Weapons since momentum is so important to it. Taunt can be skipped (especially in scrappers) depending on the build you are going for.

Quote:What Zombie Man said but to clarify specifically set bonuses work like Global Bonus. They do not depend on the power being active or what level you took the power but on the level of the enhancements in that power and with purples the set bonuses are always on once you slot them.Global bonuses (and Special IOs that are effectively a Global Bonus, such as Luck of the Gambler:+Rech) do not depend on the power working or being available to work in order to be 'on.' They only depend on the level of the enhancement, except, as in the case of purples, they ignore the level of the enhancement.
Procs, on the other hand (Chance to Damage, +Stealth, +Rec/Rech in the Heal Sets), which 'go off' when a power is activated, obviously rely on the power working to work. If the power is greyed out, Procs don't work. Procs ignore the level of the enhancement in all cases.
Enhancement of Aspects (Dam, Acc, Range, End, etc...) always scale down according to exemplar rules (even the Attuned ones). -
Personally I like the two early AOE powers (defensive sweep and Titan Sweep) for turning on Momentum. AOEs though slightly slower to animate are better then single target attacks for this as the AOEs get multiple to hit rolls and only need one of them to hit to turn on momentum.
So my advice would be to skip the single target attacks as needed and keep the AOEs. -
I would also say regular mail. Once you have claimed something I don't think you can get it back to the account or global areas again. They would ship like any normal enhancement you email.

All true but Titan Weapons eats endurance for breakfast, lunch, supper and every snack in between. I also slotted my AOE with Eradication or Obliteration knowing that that would cause endurance problems. Energy Aura mostly cured them once I got all the tools in place so I could manage but in substained fights at high levels having the extra endurance reduction in the alpha makes all the difference.
-
Quote:Ditto on my TW/Energy Aura Scrapper. Those are exactly the reasons why I chose it as my Alpha on my TW/WP brute.
I focused quite a bit on regneration since Energy Aura has little resistance and the heal helps there. Endurance reduction is nice for Titan Weapons and the Accuracy gets me up to 95% to hit on those +4 to me. -
Quote:Ugh! I see it now. Just unlocks the tiers extra rewards if you have the tokens. Dang I was hoping to skip some tier 7 and 8 stuff to save tokens to get the costume packs right away when I get to tier 9. Oh well it is quicker then the old way but that stuff still seems out of reach. Not really.
Tier 9 is just a bunch of replenishable temp powers. It's not even really a tier that one can complete. Thus, if you're VIP, then you don't need to 'complete' Tier 9 to start slotting Tier 9 VIPs.
Each Tier below 9 is a tier that you must complete before you start claiming rewards on the next tier. However, each tier from 1-8 has extra rewards just for having enough Tokens to fill that tier even though you may not have gotten around to doing so. -
Hmmm... nice idea, hadn't thought of doing that.
According to paragon wiki "Owning (but not necessarily slotting) the number of tokens to complete a tier opens that tier's rewards permissions."
So it looks like you can skip items you don't want on a tier save the tokens until you unlock the next tier then spend them.
