It's the way it's being presented as something good an heroic that's the most offensive part, when all the other references to mass-murder in the game are always presented as totally evil.

If not, I've got a Defender who still has that tip left over from last year. What am I bid? :-)

None of the other event emotes, costumes, changes, etc are account wide that I am aware of. So I don't expect this to be the first.

And I am not saying anything about titan weapons and the event itself because I'd go into incoherent ramblings that just amount to "SQUEEEEEE!". So, holding back.

Well, two weeks this year.

Traditionally the previous years Halloween features come out for the current year as well, so I'd imagine we can expect all the new stuff to return in 2012.

... Well, unless the Mayan Apocalypse happens and the world ends. Next year's event might be a bit delayed then...

I can go into too much depth about this... But the short line is "That isn't until December 21st, 2012." So it shouldn't be a factor.

My sources inform me that it is per character.

I'd prefer it was longer, myself. Halloween's my favorite time of year, and I'll be moving cross country as this event starts. Even if I wasn't, two weeks is too short. The Winter Event seems like it always gets extended, would be nice if the Halloween event would get the same treatment.

And as was already pointed out the so-called Mayan Apocalypse isn't intil 12 21 12. Also, one thing that the apocalyptos (people who's focus in life is the world ending - sad life to live, really) never mention is the calendar doesn't actually 'end' until 12 21 12 - of 3012*. So I plan to have a list compiled of apocolyptos to call up on 1 1 13 at 1 am in the morning only to laugh into their ears until they hang up.

Raven.

* Or is it 5012? I can't recall atm, focusing on food, and either way I don't plan to be alive at that time unless something goes wrong...

PS Awesome news on the CCE, definately going to be first pick on many, many alts...

Totally cool looking. Halloween's my favorite holiday, so it's always exciting to see new additions in-game to celebrate it.

I find your lack of signature disturbing.

So yet another event that the developers expect you to grind on all of your characters ad infinitum.

Except you can't do it most of the year, even when you've created a new character.

Non-global unlock for the lose again. :/

Still here, even after all this time!

Assumptions epic fail.

Grinding means its not fun to do it more than once. What if its fun and you want to do it on each toon? You must have alot of alts and thus you must have repeated alot of content on each one, was that grinding? If you lack the time to do it on each alt, you need to prioritize. That Dark/Dark emo blaster probably wants the crow emote before that ss/fire farmer joe brute does.

The best way for the devs to ensure there are plenty of people running these events (since its group content) is to make it fun and also give us a carrot. If they made the carrot a one time thing alot of the min maxers will jump back to grinding other carrots no matter how fun the event may be.

Personally I am amazed at what looks to be the best event to date. We got all the old fun stuff and a new TUT trial, a cc emote that looks awesome, all for free! Thats pretty freaking cool.

Per-character unlocks on limited time events are ********. I really wish this didn't happen.

Oh, that's seriously too bad. Any chance of getting these changed to account wide rather than character based? Badges per character makes sense but auras and costume change emotes should be account wide so we can use them on newly-created characters w/o having to wait until Halloween next year!

Thanks,

People have been asking for this for many years now. The Devs have stuck by their guns as far as keeping these kinds of things character-based instead of account-based. Obviously it's irksome if you want to unlock all these things on dozens of characters and/or want things pre-unlocked on new characters after the event, but I'm not expecting this to change anytime soon. *shrugs*

This assumes that the costume parts are the only rewards.

I will once again express my extreme displeasure at being forced into grinding event missions just to unlock things on multiple characters. Considering how often posts about wanting ways to circumvent pointless grinding for costume parts come up, I'm really irritated that there's never been any kind of redname response about it. Whatever happened to that old "giving the players what they want" schtick?

I'm sure I'll eventually have a character concept that would benefit from either the aura or the emote, but it'll probably happen in spring. Which means it won't be available.

This sort of thing bothers me, and I think I'm just going to sit the event out. Like I generally do for seasonal stuff. I very much do not like having to know who to put in the effort on to get these things, and having a limited span of time to figure it out and actually go through the process.

Is there any chance some of these seasonal-only things could turn up in the store? I would pay for almost all of them as account unlocks. Pretty much right then.

Responding to myself because I had a related thought.

In most MMOs, cosmetic items being connected to time-limited or high difficulty content is common. The thing is, in most MMOs aesthetics are not a primary draw for a significant portion of the playerbase, due to the high constraints on aesthetics until you've gone a LONG way into investing yourself in the game. So the people for whom these are The Most Important Thing are very, very rare because most of them don't sit around that long.

This means that most of the playerbase either doesn't care about the pretties, uses them as kind of status symbol, or just goes 'Heh. Pretty.' There are of course exceptions, and they'e possibly loud exceptions, but they're exceptions.

In City, because of the flexibility in expression we have stepping in the door, even as a new player with none of the extra shinies, a lot of us get invested into the IDEA of a character, and that idea can be more tied to appearances than powersets.

To me, things like this are about as sensible as "You can only roll a shield defense character in August" or "You can roll Shield Defense, but you have to unlock Shield Charge in January."

Maybe what we should be awarded - in the future, of course, it's too late to implement this idea this time - is get Unlock Tokens for the Reward we choose from Events?

Example: I run the Halloween Trial. I choose the Murder of Crows CCE. Rather than it unlocking on that character, I get an Unlock Token under Character Items in my Email Tab good for One Murder of Crows CCE Unlock. Also, to prevent this being abused, there could be a twenty-hour or one-week cooldown period between me choosing a Reward Unlock Token and the next time that Reward Choice would be available to that character to choose. So, I could run one character through the Halloween Trial and unlock all the rewards once a day or once a week if I really wanted to - I wouldn't, but hey, this is by way of example.

This allows me to have that reward available to characters I have yet to roll, but keeps each reward to being one-per, rather than account-wide. Is this a decent compromise for the future? I believe many of us would LOVE to have something like this available, so:

> To my fellow players, how does this sound?

> To the Developers, does this seem a reasonable possibility for future events?

Thanks for your time,

Raven.
