That would be a lot better, yeah. I'd still rather not be under time constraints (what if I didn't get enough? What if I accidentally claim it on the wrong character?), but it'd be a vast improvement over the current situation.

Wow! CoH is finally kicking butt and taking names with new game content! This year has been so exciting. With the release of the end-game content and the LFG, I'm really excited for the future of CoH. Now if we can fine-tune the LFG to be global and include all TF's and Trials, we'd be set!

Example: I run the Halloween Trial. I choose the Murder of Crows CCE. Rather than it unlocking on that character, I get an Unlock Token under Character Items in my Email Tab good for One Murder of Crows CCE Unlock. Also, to prevent this being abused, there could be a twenty-hour or one-week cooldown period between me choosing a Reward Unlock Token and the next time that Reward Choice would be available to that character to choose. So, I could run one character through the Halloween Trial and unlock all the rewards once a day or once a week if I really wanted to - I wouldn't, but hey, this is by way of example.

This allows me to have that reward available to characters I have yet to roll, but keeps each reward to being one-per, rather than account-wide. Is this a decent compromise for the future? I believe many of us would LOVE to have something like this available, so:

> To my fellow players, how does this sound?

> To the Developers, does this seem a reasonable possibility for future events?

Thanks for your time,

Raven.

i like this idea a lot.

Why is the unlock not global? I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.... doing content on ALL my characters for limited time events. Let's say one thing I have a concept for a brand new character to do. With a per character unlock, I need to do the content on that character that I make solely for the unlock.

If you guys just made the costume pieces/auras global, I'd be a whole lot happier. One of the huge draws of City of Heroes is the costume creator. Keeping the costume items locked per character is like telling you that you can only unlock capes on a character in October. If you miss your chance, you need to wait until October to unlock capes on a character.

Seriously, if you put the items on the store for a reasonable price (similar to volcanic aura price) I'd be more likely to pay for it for the shiny costume options if it was global, rather than run the content each time I want to use it but only in October. I paid for capes and aura unlocks because I like to use some additional options at level 1, rather than needing to do the content at 20 and 30 on each character.

What's changed is the Paragon Market. Now that there is extra money on the table, I would hope that they could give us an option to buy those as account wide unlocks. We've had the discussion already about having to do the content once to qualify to buy it from the Market and if that's something that CAN be done then I'm all for it. I'll love doing the content but I also want to have access to those auras throughout the year for new and rerolled characters and I will give Paragon money for that option. Gladly.

Time limited event cossie items aren't a new thing, Just done a reroll of my namesake toon, a dark/dark scrapper, as a brute on Exalted, but have to wait till the christmas event for the finishing touch, the Naughty Aura. I've got one toon that could use the crows cce, I'll just make sure I unlock it with that toon.

I agree, it's annoying I can't just buy/earn it to unlock with all my toon, or, like with the Christmas event, trade in a special salvage, that I can farm with one toon then distribute to those that need it to buy what they need.

By the way, for anyone who's not been on Test, the Trial is open to levels 15-50, but is run at level 29, and it requires 4 people to play it - that's 4 minimum, and 4 maximum.

I agree the Paragon Market has changed things. But one could argue that they are now making so much extra money from other offerings that they may have LESS motivation to sell character-based event items as account-wide unlocks. My point is if they don't want to sell X, Y or Z for whatever reason (good or bad) they can now choose to not to sell it because they don't need the money from it. *shrugs*

If the rewards are per character, it would be nice that if you claim the same item a second time on the same character, you'd get a one time (per time you choose it as a reward) voucher that you could claim on any other character. So you could get a bunch of vouchers to hold on to and use when you have a better character idea that could use the aura/costume change emote down the road. But yeah, I know that's not going to happen...

Neither am I. Which is why I stopped participating in all and any events 4 years ago. I won't be participating in this new Halloween one either, even if it has an interesting trial in it.

EDIT: After the events are off live, and provided you've done it ONCE with ANY character you should have a voucher that allows you to buy it as an account unlock from the Paragon Market. Make it cost 400 pp if necessary.

Indeed. I suppose a company could certainly not want to make easy money...

Yes I agree it does sound counterintuitive for a company in the business of making a profit. But sometimes the people who run games like this have certain policies or paradigms that they'd rather maintain regardless of the financial ramifications. For example could you imagine how much money they'd make if they sold Influence or permanent level boosts...

Yeah, might run this a couple of times, but not going up to level 50, only 4 people *and* non-global unlocks...

...has turned this into yet another grindfest. I'll see you guys next year.

Still here, even after all this time!

Being a woman myself, I don't find this particularly offensive nor find it having that represents celebrating the mass slaughter of women. I find it to be a good term to use to represent HALLOWEEN as a whole along with the other badges.

If we're going to start going into cookie cutter mode to every single word, I could name a few other badges that should be changed because it could potentially offend somebody but that wouldn't be fair to the others who like that word and feel it represents whatever creation they've made for themselves now would it?

Also... TITAN WEAPOMS OMG YES

What has the outermost of a chain of three small bones in the middle ear of mammals got to do with murder?

On another note, I like the idea that you unlock the right to BUY it after getting it on the 1st character. But I say keep the OPTION of running it once a year on other chars for those that can't afford to buy the pack

Such a shame that you've locked solo players out of this event.

Especially since it has character based unlocks.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Not to be pro new currency, but why not add candy corn (like candy canes). turn it in to Granny, Annah for the unlocks. You could do the same for V-day with candy hearts and a vendor in Pocket D for those items of that event.

I believe I sugested the same at the end of my post, and agree, it's a very good idea.

I really did not want to bring up the fact that I am locked out of this event

Most of my global friends who would have run this with me, quit when they decided that there was never going to be a solo path to the incarnates. My better half never starts teams, he joins them, and he is usally asleep during my prime playing time...if it took a minimum of two to start this I could fire up his account and leave his toon at the door and go off and enjoy myself...but it takes 4...

Unhappy sigh.

My Blaster, Coffin Singer, would really like those Bats and Crows..

In most MMOs, cosmetic items being connected to time-limited or high difficulty content is common. The thing is, in most MMOs aesthetics are not a primary draw for a significant portion of the playerbase, due to the high constraints on aesthetics until you've gone a LONG way into investing yourself in the game. So the people for whom these are The Most Important Thing are very, very rare because most of them don't sit around that long.

This means that most of the playerbase either doesn't care about the pretties, uses them as kind of status symbol, or just goes 'Heh. Pretty.' There are of course exceptions, and they'e possibly loud exceptions, but they're exceptions.

In City, because of the flexibility in expression we have stepping in the door, even as a new player with none of the extra shinies, a lot of us get invested into the IDEA of a character, and that idea can be more tied to appearances than powersets.

To me, things like this are about as sensible as "You can only roll a shield defense character in August" or "You can roll Shield Defense, but you have to unlock Shield Charge in January."
The problem is that many on the development staff, including the lead developer, have gone on record in the past as saying how much they enjoy such "exclusive" pieces because they demonstrate accomplishment. There are some players with similar preferences, though I suspect (and that's all it is, unfounded suspicion) that they are a minority, representing a far smaller percentage of the playerbase than they do of the development team. They are achievers. They like having something other people can't get. When someone with that mindset develops unlockable content, he doesn't want to make it too freely accessible because the "prize" itself isn't as important as its exclusivity. With the idea that things like this are markers for "I beat the Halloween event," not supports for abstract character concepts, keeping the unlocking as limited as possible makes sense. (It should also be noted that, at least in my experience, those who focus on achievement tend to have only minimal interest in concept and aesthetics, and vice versa. I'm told there are exceptions, though I have never met any.)

The vast majority of the CoX game does not cater to an achiever personality, so it seems odder than it otherwise would when content like this, that does, is added in. However, the devs have recently been trying to encourage this playstyle and retain those who enjoy it more and more, so I don't expect anything to change here. All I can say is, be glad you don't have to get your character to level 50 or click buttons according to fast-twitch reflexes in order to unlock this sort of thing, because I'm sure there are people who want you to do just that.
