Just adding my pseudo-monthly report on how this is functioning, or not.
Billing Date: 22nd of the month.
Received Paragon Points: On the 23rd (possibly due to log in time)
- Result: Paragon Points are accurate as far as I know.
Received Reward Token: Not yet. (Last Reward Token received on the 23rd of October)
- Result: According to what players have said, my tokens are accurate (i received one "extra" at launch). But according to time passed since Freedom launch, I am one short.
Overall result: Still waiting for clarity on what should be happening, as well as what my account should be. Not holding breath. -
Just to consolidate, and verify your statements:
- You both switch up leadership (neither is always the leader)
- You both switch up "dominate" character (neither is strictly support for the other)
- You are currently a VIP player
- And you consistently get less tickets than your wife
Is that correct?
Does she look better than you? :-P (Sorry, I do not have anything to help. But hopefully consolidating the list will keep the conversation moving smoothly.) -
Is CoH the only running program at the time?
Has the computer been virus/malware scanned?
How long has it been since the hard drive was defragged (if it isn't a SSD)?
How much free space is on the hard drive?
If all of those have been covered, then I would double check the Video Drivers. For that card, you should be using the Catalyst 11.9 drivers. If using the 11.10 Beta drivers for other games, the fixes that improve CoH might not be in them yet. -
That sounds like a video driver issue.
Ask him if his video drivers are up to date, and if they are if he has done a "clean install" of them?
If the answer is "yes" to both of those, there might not be a whole lot that can be done. We will need more technical information to proceed in that case. Running CoHHelper on that system and posting the log files here might be the easiest way to relay that information. A HiJack This log can be useful for ruling out software conflicts. -
Are you set on a laptop? You seem to be, and if so that is okay. If you aren't set on a laptop, you might do better money wise on a desktop. But I do not know your situation on that.
If you are set on a laptop, I'll pretty much echo what Keplar said. For roughly the same money, the second options is probably your better bet for just CoH and movies. A first generation Core i3, using only it's built in graphics (of the Core i3 CPU) ran a HD movie I have flawlessly, and that movie would stutter other systems with significant (but outdated now) discreet graphics cards. So the second generation Core i5 can handle what you are trying to throw at it. -
Short answer? Yes.
The longer answer is that it works fine for many people. ;-)
Now, if you do not want to post over in the Gameplay/Technical issues forum, you could try the things in this post.
It would be the first thing I linked you to over there anyway. -
So let's break this down.
Quote:Let us assume that is true. The fact that you hadn't tested it didn't help your point.
Quote:It's very possible that Adeon Haywood was using "on the forums" as shorthand for "on this forum section".
It's possible that they were just referencing what we've been told would be the case (non-VIP's would not be able to post) and the information that is still on the main website.
We won't know unless they say.
Quote:Ok, I was going by what the official web page says, I wasn't aware they had added the feature (although given where this thread is located my original point is still valid).
Of course, had you verified (in other words tested) it before posting, you would have known that.
So:
- You do not hold Adeon Hawkwood to that standard.
- You do not hold yourself to that standard.
- The only person you are holding to that standard is... Me.
That paints a pretty clear picture of a personal vendetta. Possibly bordering on harassment.
Of course, let me guess: "I'm just reading things into your posts that don't actually exist" (Again.)
The fact that someone else saw something of it (and their post was deleted, for those curious), might be relevant.
Of course, if I just have a bad habit of reading to much into your posts... You would think you would simply avoid interacting with me. I mean, if you had the goal of these forums looking friendly.
Maybe you should meditate on all of that. -
Does this look like your system? (PDF link)
You say you aren't a hardware person, but any information you can provide can help. Can you link to the system? Maybe provide a model number at least?
I don't want to bother you with questions you might not be able to answer, but power supply capacity and expansion slots can be helpful. (Modern video cards can suck up a lot of power, and if you have to upgrade that it will affect your budget.)
I can't find any power supply information easily, so if you can't provide that then someone with more knowledge of your computer might have to answer. -
Quote:Note: "On the forums."If you're not a VIP you can't post on the forums. since the OP is posting he is clearly a VIP.
You were saying? -
First thing to ask is "are you sure a discreet graphics card will fit?"
I haven't been up on the pre-built, brand name, computers for a while... But I think they have gotten better about that.
If the answer is yes, the next question is "do you have a brand preference?" (AMD/ATI, or nVidia)
If not, then a Radeon HD 6870 or GTX 560 would be a good starting point. (Links used as examples, not true suggestions.)
Depending on your budget, we can narrow in on the best card for you. -
Lookie there. Player Questions is not (currently) set up to accept non-VIP posts.
The fact you had to test it to verify helps prove my point.
That is "You can't be snippy at people for not being SUPER HARDCORE, 1337, Dev followers, having every Dev post streamed directly to their iOS or Android device, LIVE, AS IT HAPPENS. UP. TO. THE. MINUTE. when you can't even be certain what information the person has access to. Let alone if they have the knowledge, or time, to track it all down." (The retraction post by Positron was only about 6 hours old at the time of the OP)
This, compbined with my i21 (not 21.5) Beta experience of the poor person asking what happened to all their characters getting jumped for not having the "common sense" to know that Beta characters are subject to being wiped... (The overall topic is paraphrased, but "common sense" was actually used in the negative fashion - as in the questioner didn't have common sense.) With one rebutle to my defense of that person being "Clueless people that do not know when to clue up earn derision."
Combined with several recent threads throughout these forums, makes me really wonder what ever happened to the old adage "There are no foolish questions. Only foolish answers." (Also know as stupid, instead of foolish.)
I'm embarrassed to say, I may have missed it's funeral.
But at least this fine, and friendly, community of CoH makes sure it doesn't have to live on. -
It is also the Pulse Rifle of the Robotics set. My Mastermind doesn't have his rifle drawn when using his one attack.

Quote:Not true.If you're not a VIP you can't post on the forums. since the OP is posting he is clearly a VIP.
There are "stealth added" forums that non-VIPs can post in.
Gameplay/Techical Issues is one. I think Player Questions is another. Essentially any forum that is used to get help from other players, should be postable by non-VIPs. -
Quote:Except that Dev post is in the VIP Beta section. The section you can't see if you aren't VIP. And we can't assume that the poster is VIP, when their name isn't gold/yellow.If you're going to freak out about upcoming changes, I recommend keeping an eye on the Dev Tracker.
EDITed to add::
And since it dawned on me that non-VIPs might want to see the post:
Quote:Hey everyone,
I want you all to be aware that the development team has really taken a look at the latest change to the Incarnate System, the removal of Empyrean Merits as a reward for completing BAF or Lambda the first time that day, if you’ve unlocked your Lore or Destiny slots. We appreciate the feedback you have given us in this beta test and the fact that you all are so passionate about the Incarnate System as a whole.
I understand that many of you are upset by this and I agree that we were probably too heavy handed in trying to encourage players to try out the new content and storylines that we created. To that end: this change will not be going live with Issue 21 Special Update: Media Blitz. Have no fear, your Empyreans for completing those trials will not be touched.
Now to give you some perspective on why such a change was proposed in the first place, we simply were not seeing enough people completing the newer developed content for the system. Players seemed to be content in running BAFs and Lambdas to the exclusion of everything else. Our metrics don’t tell us why this is the case, but you the players have spoken about it. The first two trials are more fun and take a shorter time to complete than Keyes or Underground. Even by increasing the number of Emp Merits the longer Trials give, it still did not spur the playerbase as a whole into running that content.
We definitely can and will make these trials easier, faster, and/or reward better (and the changes to Keyes is a direct result of feedback from players), however we remain concerned that the “mindset” has already set in: run BAF, run Lambda, ignore everything else.
This left us with very few options, one of which was to add a NEW currency that is superior to the Emp Merits, and put that on the newer Trials. The other option was to remove the top tier currency from the older trials. Adding a new currency was in the original design for the Incarnate Trials, but many voices over the past several months have complained that we have too many currencies to begin with and we tend to agree, so we shifted gears and in the end we explored the latter option. With every change we know we won’t have complete acceptance; someone (or several someones) will be upset about it. This is par for the course, but even though there were people who understood what we were trying to do, several good points were made in the feedback thread which warrants our decision in not pushing this change out to Live.
What can we do to ensure that players are encouraged to play through Keyes and Underground, as well as anything else going forward? Especially if you can get the stuff you are looking for out of running the older, and therefore easier, content? We’ll definitely be making some further passes on the difficulties and rewards of the later Incarnate Trials, but this might not be enough. As we move into the future, if we don’t see the needle move upwards on experienced Incarnates completing Keyes, Underground, TPN, and MoM to numbers comparable to BAF and Lambda then we will have to start looking at other options for the trials that come after that. Will it be a new currency? I’d love for it NOT to come to that, but you’ve made it clear that you want to keep getting all the old currency out of the older content.
I’m pretty excited about the new Incarnate Trials coming with future issues. With your help and feedback we hope that we can make these exciting, epic, and fit within your playstyles while still presenting you a challenge. As much as you players love to play them, I know the designers love to design them. It’s one of the more enjoyable parts of our jobs, designing these Incarnate Trials to see just what our players are made of. What is too hard? What only appears to be too hard on the surface? I hope that the lessons we’ve all learned from this can help us create some awesome content. -
My account backs up Aggelakis'.
As of Sept. 13th, I had 14 (not a typo) months Vet time.
1 for 1 Year,
4 for 4 Vet Badges,
1 for a Box Code,
1 early for Sept.
That is 7. And yet I started Head Start with 8 tokens. On Oct. 23rd, I received my 9th.
I won't exclude the possibility that I have more than I should... But until that gets spelled out every account should start with one Token.

-
Quote:Has anyone? I was going to get a group to look for it last night/this morning, but the speed at which you get all the badges seems to have dried up the pool of people interested. Most of the people who want them have already done it.
I've seen the hidden Boss. Nothing special there.
I don't know how forum goers feel about spoilers, even the mild one I had in mind to guide people to the hidden Boss...
So, if anyone wants to know how to find the Boss, feel free to PM me. Make sure to state how detailed you want the response. I can be vague, or slightly vague, if you prefer that. -
-
Quote:Um, this isn't true for some people. I'd even venture a guess that it isn't true for most people.Let me reiterate that in their accounting they moved up the reward dates to the 28th, not back, by giving the token due for any paid monthly period encompassing Sept 28th on the 28th instead of at the end of the period. So you actually got the token you were due Oct 15th on Sept 28th and will get the one you would have been due on Nov 15th on Oct 28th and so on.
Very few, if any, received a Token on Sept. 28th. Only slightly more received an "extra" Token at Head Start Launch.
It seems the majority of the players (at least from the small sample size I have interacted with) are still at the correct value they started Head Start with (in other words, one "short" from what they should have gotten for the month of Sept.), or short Tokens. -
There is also the little tidbit that the OP never asked for help or input...
-
Okay. That makes some sense then. I was locked on how you could have lost your motherboard chipset driver when working on video drivers. I get it now.
And what I really do not miss is the days of setting things by hardware jumpers. The buggers aptly named because they had the tendency to "jump" right out of your hand... The flip side was, once you got things set they were stable as a rock. Unlike with all the software settings we have now. :-S -
Just to add another datapoint:
Today is my billing date, and no Reward Token. I no longer have access to what my Vet Reward date was, since that information was removed from the Master Account page and from the Vet Badges (at least those that were re-awarded at Head Start do not have the tooltip declaring when they were awarded). I did not have the foresight to believe I needed to screenshot my account page like others have.
Also, no Paragon Points. This wasn't unexpected, as I got my PPoints on the 12th for some reason.
Actually, neither of these were unexpected as I am fairly certain everyone is waiting for the 28th to get the Reward Token (with the possible exception of new VIP accounts created after Freedom launched).
Just reporting in with how things are working for my account. -
The SM Bus Controller is a motherboard chipset driver. If you have your motherboard CD, you can reload from that (if you built your computer), or go to that manufacturers website to get it.
Or, if it is a brand name purchase, you can go to that brands support page and get your motherboard drivers from them. -
Aw man...
Had you run through my "short answer" sections, I bet you could have saved yourself a 6 hour download. :-(
I am going "all in" on the video drivers now, since you are using Catalyst 11.5. (You should be on 11.9, since 11.5 is known to have problems with CoH.) If you need it, here is an outline of the steps to follow for a clean driver upgrade. -
This thread is better than starting a new one.
Has there been any word about the free tailor tickets we were supposed to get with i21 launch yet? (As in this post?)
