Blood and gore

When are we gonna get an option for blood and gore to show up on defeated opponent? For blood to spurt from their faces when that extreme attack hits? We need these upgrades, we need them now!

When the game is no longer rated teen.

And we don't need them. I'll take Spider-Man over the Punisher any day.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

Besides, I think the idea of a "superhero" is that you defeat your opponents, not kill them. Though how that concept applies to gun or blade characters, or villians ...

Historically this has been left to the player to decide on a character-by-character basis (though this has eroded in recent years, viz. the various Praetorian missions that explicitly give you the choice of killing somebody because Praetoria Is Friggin Hardcore®).

No. That's crap.

If I want some blood and gore, I'll play something like Mortal Kombat (not that I'm into that game, just sayin').

In any case, I'll echo the "T for Teen" logic. NCSoft wants to appeal to a wider range of players, so you won't see blood and gore in the game, and nothing more than "mild violence."

In this game all gore happens off camera. That said, some storylines do have characters killing, but it's always written, not explicitly shown.

If someone wants blood and gore they should go play one of the other superhero MMOs that let you decapitate your foes in a fountain of blood. Of course they might have to wait a bit for someone to make one...

You talk as if someone lied to you and told you we were EVER going to get this option...

No, we don't. While I'm not anti-blood/gore, it's completely unnecessary. I don't mind it when it's there as long as it's not to the point of just being ridiculous ( Unless it's done for comic effect in a game themed around that kind of humor ), but we're not missing anything without it. It adds absolutely nothing to gameplay. And when it comes to pure fluff, I'd rather have a shinier world in general than blood-and-guts splattering around.

I think this right here pretty much sums up how it is safe to use guns or blades in a superhero game. (and why it's not always a good idea).

And remember, lots of times we're attacking enemies who regenerate (trolls), have super-reflexes (Crey Operatives), have magic (hellions, carnies), use mutagens (destroyers, trolls, family), are mutants (outsiders), aliens (nictus), are supernatural (nerva demons, warwolves, vampyri) or are wearing power armor (crey tanks). Plus the robots.

that said there are times (low level skuls) where it's pretty hard to suspend disbelief.

Skulls have magic, too. Hellions summon demons, Skulls use voodoo magic of a sorts.

Well, some that young, but not many. And those that are do so against the ESRB rating ( Teen ). Still, blood and gore would be violating it the other way.

My five year old plays. She has a character named "Nice Fairy". Plant/Plant Dom. Everytime we save some poor citizen from a thug with a baseball bat, she proclaim, "He won't be bothering that person again, CUZ HE'S DEAD!". I have a hard enough time convincing her that we are "arresting" the bad guys and they are going to jail after we impale the person with a 4 foot spike. I really don't need the "arrested" bad guys exploding into chopped beef after being squeezed to death by roots.

I know, we could have a toggle to turn it on and off (and this likely started as a joke topic anyways), but IMHO it's simply not worth the time put into it. It adds nothing to the game. If they are going for something just for visual appeal, I'd rather have more options for power animations than having a Hellion's kidneys burst from his body and fly 100' away every time I hit him with Power Push.

And, ya, T for Teen. We are allowed to set people on fire, knock them off 50 story buildings, unload an uzi on them, drop a nuke on them and suck them into a black hole, as long as there is no blood and/or nudity involved.

CoH has been unique in the sea of cloned MMOs.There are years of possibilities still
in such a well designed, well supported and well loved game.Shutting it down now doesn't
make sense on any level except, perhaps, on some spreadsheets bottom line. I do not
consider this an act of a company that has the interests of its customers at heart. This
calls into question why I would want to be part of any further ventures involving NCSoft.
