If I wasn't used to it I wouldn't be around. I always have something to complain about. And I don't always get my way. But feedback is what helps improve the game. <>
Also I seriously doubt 48 characters is anywhere near the average. Even for the types of people who would be buying costume slots. I'm one of those people (I have a character with more than 40 costumes), and I only have 20 characters. I imagine the average number of characters per account is a lot closer to a single digit. |
As for the number of characters/account, you're probably both right and wrong. In absolute terms the number of characters/account is probably quite low. However, if you look at the population of people that are willing to subscribe and pay over and above the subscription, then the character density is probably quite high.
(Oh, and how come your OCD hasn't made you max out your character slots?)
Spent $5 to bring Justice to the Streets. Seems like a fair deal
Now when will Titan Weapons become available? Gotta start saving now
There is no such thing as an "innocent bystander"
Now that we have to buy powersets, could we at least see what the powersets do statistically before we buy them?

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
Crap, i must be quite the outlier. i have 2 servers with approx 35+ and at least two with 15 or more characters. Most of the remaining servers have at least 10 characters. On the other hand less than half of those characters are over level 40 and still have costume slots to unlock in game, so there is that.

(Pretty soon someone will come along that blows us both out of the water).

Type the power names in brackets in game, like local chat and type [Heavy Blow] to get the numbers for it.
Wiki + doing that for real numbers is the only way I know of to see the statistics. And you don't have to have the powers unlocked to do it.
Just like we can see all the Staff Melee and Titan Weapons attacks using the same method.
Until I see something that states to the contrary, going to assume VK is right .

Which sucks, especially for me as my billing date is the 30th, so no points for me until the 30th of October!
I would of thought they could of classed 400 points as a headstart gift and continued as planned on the billing dates. Oh well, that will teach me for getting an extended sub... |
Feedback does help improve the game. It's questionable whether "Costume slots are way too expensive" constitutes useful feedback, especially when anecdotal (forum) evidence exists that people are buying them at the current prices.

The cheaper things are in a microtransaction system, the less people think about buying them. Interesting economic studies on things like that; you can give one person a $50 bill and another person 50 $1 bills, and the one with the 1s is far more inclined to spend the money. That can lead to a larger profit for the company if they capitalize on it. CoH's microtransaction system is actually somewhat strange to me. Usually games will have tons of super cheap things that are a few cents to a dollar so people don't think twice about tossing a few quarters a day at things, until they don't realize they've spent $50. I don't know of any other games that mostly focus on big-ticket items that are generally $10+ each, with no real "candy" items that people blow loads of cash on without realizing it.
And for the last paragraph, I sort and organize my characters and their costumes in various ways. I sort and organize the powers on my tray and the inspirations I use. OCD rarely conforms to the expectations of onlookers. The order and what needs to do what rarely makes sense to anyone but the person doing it.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

So from this point on, are we to assume that new powersets will never be free again? I have a hard time convincing myself to pay for something that I never had to before. At the very least, new powersets should be instantly available to VIP players, since we are paying that extra to receive additional content. It seems rather redundant to make the people who are already paying shell out more money to see the things that previously would have been covered under their subscription. How much more money do you need from the loyal subscribers who continue to pay money each month?
Yes, you can make the case that we're given points every month. I spent mine on beam rifle, but had I known street justice was right around the corner I would have held out for that instead. So even with the free points I've been given, I would still have to pay out of pocket to be able to use all the new powers right away. Otherwise, if I want if for free I have to wait two months until I've built up enough "free" points to purchase it. The way I see it, VIP players should not lose anything that they would have gotten under the old business model. I don't feel like a very important person when I still have to pay for things that previously would have been given to us.

Dispari, I certainly do not think that you're an outlier for having the opinion that the costume slots are priced too high, even at $7.50.
To each their own, of course, but I don't feel right agreeing to those prices.
So, we'll see what happens.
No big deal either way!
I've lived without them and had tons of fun. I'd like them, but only if it feels right to me.
To be honest, I still think that $10 for the powersets are too high.
It is all relative, of course and I don't blame anyone for buying these things and/or agreeing with the prices!

None, they are already penalizing themselves plenty by missing all the fun.
