You shouldn't have to pay for a powerset that should be free. However, not all powersets should be free. Not all powersets were free in the past either.

Also I seriously doubt 48 characters is anywhere near the average. Even for the types of people who would be buying costume slots. I'm one of those people (I have a character with more than 40 costumes), and I only have 20 characters. I imagine the average number of characters per account is a lot closer to a single digit.
Feedback does help improve the game. It's questionable whether "Costume slots are way too expensive" constitutes useful feedback, especially when anecdotal (forum) evidence exists that people are buying them at the current prices.

As for the number of characters/account, you're probably both right and wrong. In absolute terms the number of characters/account is probably quite low. However, if you look at the population of people that are willing to subscribe and pay over and above the subscription, then the character density is probably quite high.

(Oh, and how come your OCD hasn't made you max out your character slots?)

Spent $5 to bring Justice to the Streets. Seems like a fair deal

Now when will Titan Weapons become available? Gotta start saving now

Now that we have to buy powersets, could we at least see what the powersets do statistically before we buy them?

Crap, i must be quite the outlier. i have 2 servers with approx 35+ and at least two with 15 or more characters. Most of the remaining servers have at least 10 characters. On the other hand less than half of those characters are over level 40 and still have costume slots to unlock in game, so there is that.

Don't feel too bad, I'm even farther out there. 3 accounts, 80 slots. And actually, I added a $1.99 account, so I guess it's now 4/92, although there are some empties in there.

(Pretty soon someone will come along that blows us both out of the water).

http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Street_Justice

Type the power names in brackets in game, like local chat and type [Heavy Blow] to get the numbers for it.

Wiki + doing that for real numbers is the only way I know of to see the statistics. And you don't have to have the powers unlocked to do it.

Just like we can see all the Staff Melee and Titan Weapons attacks using the same method.

After my main got butchered in issue 3 I always searched for another way to fix it but now this maybe what I end up doing.

Oh well, that will teach me for getting an extended sub...
Same boat here. Billing date is the 24th, but then I've only got like 300points atm, so I'd still have to wait till Thanksgiving to get it.

For the first paragraph, if it's useful or not is subjective. And someone would still buy them even if they were $200 each, so I don't think "people are buying them" is ever a valid excuse. The actual questions they should be asking are A) how many people are buying them at the current prices, and B) would more people buy them if the were cheaper (and how many), and C) would that equal greater profit.

The cheaper things are in a microtransaction system, the less people think about buying them. Interesting economic studies on things like that; you can give one person a $50 bill and another person 50 $1 bills, and the one with the 1s is far more inclined to spend the money. That can lead to a larger profit for the company if they capitalize on it. CoH's microtransaction system is actually somewhat strange to me. Usually games will have tons of super cheap things that are a few cents to a dollar so people don't think twice about tossing a few quarters a day at things, until they don't realize they've spent $50. I don't know of any other games that mostly focus on big-ticket items that are generally $10+ each, with no real "candy" items that people blow loads of cash on without realizing it.

And for the last paragraph, I sort and organize my characters and their costumes in various ways. I sort and organize the powers on my tray and the inspirations I use. OCD rarely conforms to the expectations of onlookers. The order and what needs to do what rarely makes sense to anyone but the person doing it.

So from this point on, are we to assume that new powersets will never be free again? I have a hard time convincing myself to pay for something that I never had to before. At the very least, new powersets should be instantly available to VIP players, since we are paying that extra to receive additional content. It seems rather redundant to make the people who are already paying shell out more money to see the things that previously would have been covered under their subscription. How much more money do you need from the loyal subscribers who continue to pay money each month?

Yes, you can make the case that we're given points every month. I spent mine on beam rifle, but had I known street justice was right around the corner I would have held out for that instead. So even with the free points I've been given, I would still have to pay out of pocket to be able to use all the new powers right away. Otherwise, if I want if for free I have to wait two months until I've built up enough "free" points to purchase it. The way I see it, VIP players should not lose anything that they would have gotten under the old business model. I don't feel like a very important person when I still have to pay for things that previously would have been given to us.

No. We got Time for free and the devs have said more free sets are coming.

Dispari, I certainly do not think that you're an outlier for having the opinion that the costume slots are priced too high, even at $7.50.
To each their own, of course, but I don't feel right agreeing to those prices.
So, we'll see what happens.
No big deal either way!
I've lived without them and had tons of fun. I'd like them, but only if it feels right to me.

To be honest, I still think that $10 for the powersets are too high.
It is all relative, of course and I don't blame anyone for buying these things and/or agreeing with the prices!

As Dispari said, we're definitely getting more free sets in the future. For one, I think it's pretty safe to assume that the "new Dominator set(s)" will be free for VIPs.

Very true...i knew something like this was goona happen when they pulled back StJ in beta...for me its a money grab plan and simple...for others maybe not and im happy for you. I'll buy the set in Dec. when i have the points built up...however there will be other things coming out in mid/late Dec. that will be grabbing some of my playing time and Xmas is the other one

A certain space MMO (which shall remain nameless) would have people use the in-game store to buy their avatars a monocle for the equivalent of $70 in real-world money, or a shirt or boots for around $18. They don't have anything cheaper. Not exactly "candy items".
