Discussion: Featured Items at the Paragon Market - 10/4/11
Saw a bit of that already on people who'd purchased Costume Slots prior to the sale that began last week. A sale is a sale; I see no problem with it as long as they don't permanently lower the price a short time after launch.
|
Since I bought those extra costume slots I've loaded in dozens of new costumes and gotten many hours of enjoyment out of that. They've been well worth the price I paid and I expect I'll get plenty more enjoyment from them for the remainder of the lifespan of this game.
So sure sales happen and some people are always going to get caught buying something the day before the price drops. No point in whining about it either way. *shrugs*

It sounds like that for you, the release of Street Justice is one of the most important days of your life.
But for me, it's Tuesday. |
As it is, a mysterious mustachioed man will soon be seen soaring through the skies above Paragon City, striking fear into the hearts of evildoers everywhere with his cries of "Faaaaaace PUNCHER!" What? Why would you say he's Chad Gulzow-Man in disguise? Chad Gulzow-Man could never grow such a glorious mustache, foolish citizen.

I have to say....with this new business model I'm spending even more per month on the game. Good... and bad from my perspective. I suspect I'll let one of my monthly accounts go premium so I can spend that money on the main one.

Yeah, if I'm "supposed" to be able to get the minimum of costumes and powersets with my VIP stipend, then I'll be waiting to see if this drops in price ever. I've only purchased a Beam Rifle and a handful of the barbarian/circle of thorns pieces (no sets) and I sure don't have 800 points lying around.
Every time the Store puts up something I would like that is WAY overpriced for someone already paying for the game, it makes me regret my 6 month sub.

It's a much better "problem" for this game to have in the long run.

Any 50% sale, especially for a hot item like a powerset, is likely a looong way off.

I'm one of those people with 'enough' money but who refuses to buy anything when it's not on sale. Because it will be. Otherwise, they're leaving money on the table for goods that have already been produced.
My patience lasts for years sometimes. And often, when the right sale comes around, I don't even want it anymore. Money saved!
(That said, I was willing to pay more than 400 for Beam Rifles, but it'd have to be a *really* big sale to get me to buy into Titan Weapons. Staff fighting? We'll have to see. I'm inclined to think I'd pay 600-700 or so points for that given the right animations and weapons customization options.)
I can't decide if I fall into both categories or neither. I have the disposable income if I really wanted to go wild on the fluff from the marketplace, but I generally think the non sale prices are a bit OTT. I still have the majority of my 'free' points, which I'll spend when I feel the time is right, or never, whichever comes sooner!
|
I spent my freebies on bits and bobs, but I'm in the same boat with regards to buying points, I've plenty of disposable income but I haven't seen anything I want to spend actual cash on.
I am still leveling a few toons so I can wait until this is on sale. I enjoyed the 3 hours of StJ before it was wiped from beta but I had fun with it. Here's hoping for a decent sale around the holidays.
Then it's time for them to get off the cross, use the wood to build a bridge, and get over it.

You're one of those people who finishes RPGs with 100 Potions of Heal Everything and your Staff of Hideous Agony still fully charged and unused in your inventory, aren't you Cry?

Okay I admit it, I tend to horde uber items for a rainy day in RPGs. Problem being that rainy day tends to exist on the far side of the end credits!
an i wonder why you even have to pay for a power set that should be free? an 800 on top of that? there isn't anything in the game that should be over 50 max, just something to get you to spend more money on, where there isn't anything here http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/about_..._power_set.php that says you have to pay for the power set to begin with .I think the devs are on crack to put anything in there for more than 50 points,
I'm just wondering, how long is the sale for?

There are two player sides to the debate over the Paragon Market prices.
1) Those who think the prices, for the most part, are set too high for the perceived value of the object(s) in question. I myself fall into this camp.* 2) Those with disposable income such that buying anything at the PM that might strike their fancy (or their WANT IT NAO!!! button) is a mere trifle. These folks are likely also accustomed to these types of transactions from other games and accept them as they are. |
3) People who will never pay extra for anything. To them, the Paragon Market is just another currency (ANOTHER FRIGGIN' CURRENCY ) that can be used to access a wider array of goodies than the other currencies. It's a currency acquired through time, not activity. Therefore, the winning attribute is patience.
I'll pick up street justice in a couple of months, maybe; maybe wait until the inevitable round of adjustments that get made to just about every new set. It's not going any where.

Casual_Player (BTW, LOVE your avitar) I'll agree with you on that point, as I'm like that over on a FB Flash game that is waaay more annoying with their game model. Like all these little games on FB, they have ingame game points that can be spent on goodies. However, unlike all these other games, the playerbase is frustrated over the fact that this is the only game where you don not receive bonus points every time you level up. As well, now that the designers of this game are putting out missions that are all timed ('Expires in x days y hours') but can be completed with these ingame points that you have to purchase, I'm sure a lot of the players of that game are ready to quit in utter frustration. (In fact, I've noticed that at least a 1/3, creaping slowly up to 1/2 of my neighbours are no longer active.)
Imagine if Paragon Studios made us buy everything for points and gave us VIP members ZERO stipend every month, do you think they'd survive?
I may not like the prices of some of the things in the store, but that won't stop me from spending cash on extra points now and then. In fact, I think I'll check to see how much I have on my pre-loaded card tonight and maybe buy 1,200 points and get an extra costume slot. I know that Teen would be grateful, as her closet is full of outfits - i.e. I got too many of her costume ideas in saved costume files.

There's nothing keeping you (or anyone) from buying one extra costume slot, and $7.50 is well within 'impulse buy' range for a lot of players. Pretending that you have to buy all five at once is just silly.
|
In other words, I would happily spend $12.50 and get all five slots. I might consider buying all five slots for $25.00. Otherwise I'll be buying zero slots.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.
|
I do have to buy all five at once. Because I'm OCD. Even if I wasn't, $7.50 per slot is overpriced. If it's overpriced for all, it's overpriced for one. I'm not looking at "What can I get for $x?" I'm looking at "What's the value of these items?" The value is too low. I'm not looking to see how many slots I can get for $x. I'm looking to see how much they're asking per slot. Which is still too much.

And just because I'm in a silly mood. 48 slots per server. 16 servers. $7.50 works out to less than a penny per character-slot.
BARGAIN!
Even if it's only one server, 48 characters brings the price down to 16 cents per slot. That's really really cheap. If you buy all the slots, it's still only 77 cents per character. Less than a buck a character for 5 more costume slots.
If that's the case, then you're an extreme outlier and you should get used to things not being the way you'd like...
|
Also I seriously doubt 48 characters is anywhere near the average. Even for the types of people who would be buying costume slots. I'm one of those people (I have a character with more than 40 costumes), and I only have 20 characters. I imagine the average number of characters per account is a lot closer to a single digit.

As far as it not being "free" - with the bells and whistles they gave this set, it would not of been made (for some time yet, at least) without it being something charged for.
I will say they could mention it's available in the Paragon Market.

And if someone is a free or premium player, every VIP should *want* them to pay - it means more stuff for us!
Finally. I been waiting for the this to come for a while now. Now I am dropping all other characters for this.
