I have a Dark/Storm/Leviathan myself. Since I am a dedicated soloist, the early days were excruciating. Nothing ever seemed to die except for me. But by the time I got into my 30s and started to get IO'd out, things became much easier and actually fun. Right now, I'm (I think) 39 and I can't remember the last time I died.
I'm soft capped on ranged def and if anything gets close all I have to do is toggle on a Hurricane and I'm golden. I also picked up some expensive IOs as soon as I could manage, the two endurance procs that go in Health and Stamina and a kismet, and make sure things have appropriate end reduction.
With all the DOT, mobs tend to melt away like an ice cube under warm water as opposed to a kaboom and they're gone. Good fun. -
The biggest difference psychologically for me since Freedom has been how I now feel like I have to guard my money from the people running this game.
Before, I had a recurring sub and if I wanted a pack I bought it. Now, everything seems to costs extra, and if I don't stay on top of things, I won't get the stuff that I should be getting with my sub.
There is no way to track ANYTHING that has to do with money. If I was a newcomer to this game, that alone would make me not bother giving you my card number. -
Shouldn't the title of the thread be "Overpay to win"?
-
Quote:The OP seems to have had their question answered though. What do you think they are asking that isn't addressed? Is it more likely that everyone else is confused and you are the only sane person or the other way round?Yes, that's a common question. Which is why I'm not surprised that people would latch onto it despite the fact that it's only a minor statement in the original post, probably arrived at while dealing with the main issue stated in the thread title and first sentence which everyone else apparently overlooked. I'm not blaming them for overlooking the main issue, as that commonly happens when a common problem is brought up alongside another issue or issues.

Quote:Wait, who was complaining? You see the problem here? When you sell stuff cheap, it's to help crafters get cheap salvage. (Although if there are 10,000 for sale for under 500 inf each, I don't think the problem you're trying to solve actually exists, but whatever.)
The thing is, when I sell stuff cheap, it's to help low level characters make some money by vendoring trash. It's exactly the same reason why I put aluminum cans next to trash cans. If someone is so desperate for money that they'll pick through the trash and haul it to a recycler/vendor, then I say good luck and God bless.
If someone actually bought that junk and crafted stuff with it, I wouldn't really mind, but that's not what I had in mind when I listed it.
On the other hand, I do have one character where I'm trying to get lots of badges. On that character, I list stuff cheap because I want the next sales badge. I don't care who buys it or why as long as it sells quickly because I have a lot more stuff to sell and not enough slots on the market.
So the problem is that Spacenut can't tell WHY people listed things for the price they did. He can't even tell who listed it. He doesn't know if he's buying it from people who want a badge and he's doing them a favor, or if he's buying it from someone who wanted to help crafters and he's annoying them. Some of both are out there and he can't pick and choose when buying.
And you don't know who bought it or why. So you can assume that he bought it and vendored it, and you can be annoyed, or you can assume that some poor lowbie crafter bought it and crafted with it and be happy. But you'll never know which it was.
The bottom line, as far as I'm concerned, is that if you sell something for 100 inf and someone buys it for 100 inf, then you don't get to complain, period.
I mean, who was complaining, period.? -
Quote:I dunno, everyone else seemed to figure it out. It's possible. If so, the original post is poorly worded. I find it equally likely that everyone else overlooked a simpler issue - that the OP was unaware of being able to change costumes anywhere other than a tailor interface. The initial post makes more sense if that is the issue.
It's a pretty common question: why can't I still use my crab gloves in my 2nd costume slot? (for instance) The fact that there isn't an answer beyond "just because" means people rarely figure out the reasoning on their own. -
Quote:I don't think anything has ever sold for 1 inf, and even if it did, if the next thing sells for a hundred I can afford to sell the next 10 things for 1 inf. It just means that whomever buys it, will pay what they feel it is worth at the time, and not chase the price around. Thanks, good to know.
Like you perhaps (unless you're a villain), I'd rather be out busting super villains. But when you sell for 1 inf, ya'know, you're paying market fees on top of that. You're paying people to take your salvage. I put my trash up for 11 inf each to offset that cost. It'll be treasure for someone else, and at 11 inf it's still a steal.
It also means that I free up my auction slots quicker than if I'm worried about market fees. -
I dislike the "market PVP" thing, because it is one person pvp'ing mostly against people who just want to craft an enhancement and get back to the game. But I have come to just dump my extra salvage on the market for 1 inf and imagine it is going to someone who needs it.
-
Wait, so is there any reason to do this other than make salvage more expensive for other people?
-
Quote:You are just misunderstanding the question of the OP.Indeed, but that is a different issue from having your original VEAT costume returned/getting it back. It would be nice to have the pieces available, though. Heck, I'd be happy to be able to colour more than just the lights on the Special Helmets version of the Arachnos helmets.
-
I think the very, very high prices at the market go a long way to negate the feeling of "free vip points". After at least a year of subscribers complaining that we weren't getting the costume sets and whatnot that people came to expect with the issues, suddenly we have a giant stockpile of sets, costumes, bells and whistles that they are willing to sell to us, and only the most anemic of which (circle of thorns bundle, the 3 mish signature story) are priced the same as the monthly stipend.
Anything, any one thing, whether it be a powerset or costume slot or a travel board means sitting around for a month waiting for points to accumulate (while you also pay your sub), a system designed to make those who feel part of the "community" to feel left out while they wait.
The game used to be about keeping us playing and paying. Now it is about keeping us playing and paying, and also paying.
I am personally not spending more, but it is because I resent strongarm marketing tactics. It might even result in my paying less, since I used to buy the boosters, but now feel that paying for extra points is like giving the dog a treat when it gets mud on the couch.
The pricing strategy for the Paragon Market is eroding my goodwill as a long time player. I no longer feel happy to throw an extra ten bucks to help fill the coffers of that game I like.
But I'm sure I'm in the minority, so no harm done, right? -
-
Yeah, if I'm "supposed" to be able to get the minimum of costumes and powersets with my VIP stipend, then I'll be waiting to see if this drops in price ever. I've only purchased a Beam Rifle and a handful of the barbarian/circle of thorns pieces (no sets) and I sure don't have 800 points lying around.
Every time the Store puts up something I would like that is WAY overpriced for someone already paying for the game, it makes me regret my 6 month sub. -
-
I think at best this is disingenuous and at worst it is a lie.
I'm losing a lot of respect for Paragon these last couple weeks, between these weasel words and what appears to be a steadfast desire to price gouge as much as possible from the Paragon Market, without giving clear examples of what are are and aren't buying. -
Quote:Personally, I died because I had my difficulty cranked up from running around at 50. I can always turn it down and I'm sure it would be fine, difficulty wise. I just don't see what is fun about that.I completely sympathize with them. While some characters (depending on powers) can easily solo this story arc--which I found awesome--some characters, even at level 50, will fail completely. Add to that the exempt to level 20 and lose of so many powers and, yeah, I can see why some would be irratated.
This is supposed to the best that COH has to offer. SO good people will be clamoring to pay extra for it. I'll be the first to admit that I threw my toys down in a huff and went and did something else when confronted with the difference between the reality and the hype.
I mean, I was really looking forward having something new to run on my 50 that wasn't a tedious, lagging slog of 40 strangers that I know only well enough to dislike playing with. They should make a point to tell people this is lvl 20 only. -
Quote:Thanks for the correction, I appreciate it.Quit with the hyperbole, really.
At 50 you have 24 powers.
When exemplared down to 20, you have access to all the powers you gained through 25, with is 14 powers.
14/24 = 58.33%
The powers you lose access to are the tier 8 and 9 from the primary and tier 7-9 from the secondary.
If you feel that this is crippling and unplayable, it just proves that leveling in the game has been made too damn easy.
That means everything else about what I disliked is valid then? -
Quote:I can only speak for myself, but I am far from min/maxer. I can run 30 to 35 through oro easily enough. For those of you who are complaining that your level 50 toon is built to optimal at 50 only, how about using the second build feature and creating a build that is optimal when exempt at any level.
You don't always have to min/max at every level you play. You might want to exemp down to do other TF's/SF's and being built for 50 might be a problem then too.
But at 20, I'm missing, what, 40% of my powers and nothing is slotted.
Again, this isn't being SOLD as a new low level arc for lvl 20. This is PREMIUM content. This should be worth paying for. This should not be less technically sophisticated than an AE arc.
I'm so glad I didn't have to buy this, but I can't imagine how someone would feel if they did. It isn't like I've seen any mention of this being a level 20 only until I was actually on the map.
It is fine, it got my dander up to quit playing COH for the day and pop in my new Jean Vigo blu rays. So that is worth it, I guess, since I didn't have to pay for it. -
I haven't read any of this thread, since I didn't want to be spoiled on anything.
But 20?
You expect people to PAY for this and you can't even design a story that scales???
I just started on my 50, at the settings I solo at 50 because I didn't think this premium content wouldn't be less fun than anything else. But somehow I'm not built to exemp to 20.
I'm sure this must have been brought up a hundred times, but, yeah, 20.
If I paid for this, I would demand a refund. This, so far, is the biggest disappointment since 21 dropped.
Bad job, game designers. Very, very bad job. -
To celebrate the first time I've been able to actually log into the forum in two weeks, I figure I'd actually post a question.
I have a Plant/Trick Arrow controller who has just unlocked Patron powers. Soul would work best thematically, but the Psy app looks pretty good, too. (not counting the pink)
Any advice? I also always solo, and wouldn't mind picking up some extra damage and armor.
Thanks very much. -
Hmm, after preparing myself for a day of uppity rightiousness, I updated and logged on same as usual with no problems. (other than those that everyone seems to have: no points, no store etc)
The game still crashes when it has decided I have played it enough, but I have come to think that is normal behavior.
I'm on the most recent Snow Leopard. -
Quote:Can I ask where that post was? I might be helpful if I have start asking for credit/refund.No Kitsune. There was a post from Zwill. He said that it'll be approximately a WEEK before they patch the mac fixes. They aren't rolling it out live. As of right now, there are NO fixes. zip. Zero. Nada. That is to say.. there are no fixes that are rolling out with the LIVE version. They say they have fixes and are fairly confident that they work.. but won't be rolling THAT patch out for a week.
Thanks. -
For someone who isn't affected in any way by any of this you sure seem to find all the reasons why other people shouldn't be unhappy about not getting what they paid for.
Also, it isn't my job (or Cuppa's [THANKS CUPPA, by the way]) to get the Mac client that Paragon sold to work.
If things don't work on Tuesday, I will be expecting a refund for the time I am unable to play. That seems the most fair thing that could be expected. -
Yeah, if the Mac issues are as bad as the Mac board would lead one to believe, I actually think I might be asking for my sub refunded.
-
Good lord, that is ridiculous. I think I might be regretting the fact that I just re-subbed yesterday.
