Credit for all the downtime
What you are seeing is Gallagher 2 attempting his hardest to be Gallagher 1, but he put on too much weight and never really got the hang of swinging the Sledge-o-matic the right way.

The crowd boos as they walk out wearing their homemade Hefty trashbag-based ponchos.

I'm an oceanic player and I can barely play the game this month with this much maintenance going on.
I'm aware of that and I don't expect some form of compensation but from a customer service perspective, it sure would be nice for them to do so.
At the end of the day, it depends on how each player feels about service that they are paying for. If they feel they aren't getting what they want or the treatment they deserve they will vote with their money.
Brandishing the EULA in their face is simply counterproductive. People may grudgingly accept it but they may not be happy about how its handled.
I will miss you City of Heroes..
Wow, this whiny entitlement thread grew a lot faster than the last one.

That was sarcasm, just to be extra clear.

More downtime tomorrow.. I'm not sure why but that news made me laugh pretty hard. Guess I'll have to play something else :P
Edit: Also to all of you who expect compensation, get a grip. who's to say that they may or may not have planned on something or nothing at all. But keep the tears comming im enjoying this thread way too much

Yes maintenance has to happen and is isn't actionable.
However, the Devs are doing at a time which is either done with malice or done with extreme stupidity.
This is the second week in a row Friday night has been out for Oceanics, Friday night is as prime as primetime gets. How about instead of Thursday morning, the Devs do their thing Wednesday morning, or Tuesday morning, or Monday morning, or any morning that doesn't equate to the prime of all prime times. It isn't unreasonable to expect courtesy.
I don't expect compensation.
That said... I sorta think it reflects well on an MMO when they give some compensation, even if it's just a bonus day here and there. Or maybe Paragon Points.
The only form of compensation they need to offer is to stop screwing over Oceanic players.

They are a business, they are going to do what's good for business and effects the least people. Sorry if you expected a MMO to be exempt from reality.
I think, for each 12 hours per month that they go over the scheduled downtime, they should pick a paragraph at random from their story bible and post it in the forums!
Always remember, we were Heroes.
I don't expect compensation.

But realistically, and this is not so fantastic example and not personal to anyone here at all but it will get the point across, would you rather reward the nice child? rather than the one that's throwing a fit and a tantrum with candy?
It only takes a few to ruin it for the majority (And i have been in that situation many a time :/ ), not saying that is the case here but who knows? I don't.
I'd expect someone to review their post when accusing someone of malice or stupidity. Don't expect courtesy when you accuse anyone of ill content or insulting their intelligence.

It may be an oversight but I think that when it comes to business, oversight and stupidity are synonymous.
While I sympathize- theres no way in hell you'll get it. No MMO is going to open that pandora's box, nor should they. Is it inconvient? Hell yes. But at the end of the day, it's a game. It's not a staple necessary for living. Do you play EVERY day of that 30 month sub? Most don't. You pay for access to the game. However, these are physical mechanical devices and sometimes they need off time for repair/maintenance/upgrades etc. It happens, it's not the norm, so enough already.

PS: Please don't turn this into a conversation about World of Warcraft. I'm just saying that other MMORPGs absolutely compensate for unreasonable downtime. It isn't 'opening pandora's box' or some forbidden thing no one does.
I'm not going to be upset if they don't, but it is annoying. I get up early in the morning so when the game is down so much I'm hit by the majority of it. This isn't much fun.
I totally agree with you. Yea, if they did something cool on them.

Other MMO companies regularly add time to people's accounts to make up for excessive interruptions to service; heck, even this company has compensated players for interruptions to service in the past (the Union DXP event that all-but killed Defiant springs to mind).
Maybe people shouldn't expect it, but it's good public relations and most MMO companies (including this one!) understand this.
@Giant
You're fooling yourself if you honestly think those are the only answers. They have to work based on a schedule. They had to wait for the new servers before announcing the mandatory server update. I don't know about you, but I'm sure they'd rather spend their time actually working on the game instead of being up in the dead of night, possibly spending 20+ hours working on the servers during Thursday and Friday. Could they have waited till Monday? if their schedule allowed it, sure. In this case, it more than likely didn't and couldn't afford to wait past the weekend when the official release is near.
Don't think that it's just you guys being affected, when it's people on all sides.
And now we're back in this blah blah blah quagmire.
