Credit for all the downtime
I agree 100% that some form of compensation is reasonable and I am a NA player too.
Lets do some math here. 15/30 = .5. So 2 days is $1. Since 400 paragon points are $5 maybe they could give us all 80 points. Or a cup of coffee or something.
Since we have had so much downtime outside or normal acceptable mainenence, I expect some credit to the month I've paid. If my cable, telephone service or internet service was down for more than 48 hours in a month, you can bet they would be scrambling to compensate me.
I paid for 30 days service, not 28 days. |
While I sympathize- theres no way in hell you'll get it. No MMO is going to open that pandora's box, nor should they. Is it inconvient? Hell yes. But at the end of the day, it's a game. It's not a staple necessary for living. Do you play EVERY day of that 30 month sub? Most don't. You pay for access to the game. However, these are physical mechanical devices and sometimes they need off time for repair/maintenance/upgrades etc. It happens, it's not the norm, so enough already.

To be fair it is only a short amount of time, that being said it is FAR outside of the normal time expected for maintenance.
Now some will flock to defend the Devs saying well what do you expect they are giving us wonderful things! Yes, but you don't have access to the old things either while they are busy making awzum.
So either crediting us with some amount of points or a double XP weekend seems a fair thing. This is not normal and the customer can't be expected to be happy with the unstable servers, lag, downtime or other issues that a wholesale remake to City of Heroes 2 brought.
Again these issues are NOT the customers fault and we are paying for the new shiny stuff and often a great deal of cash is changing hands. I have seen people spend nearly $500 on new stuff just to not be able to play it.
*Edit - this also throws out the whole you only pay this theory - some have paid a LOT more this month.
why does everyone, when you ask for compensation assume to break it down into a dollar figure? I PAID 30 days. give me 30 days. Hell for all the inconvience they should credit everyone with an extra week game time.

They were down for weeks solid, and they let themselves get hacked in a way as to expose plenty of people's info to the hackers!

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
Easy fix: Make something in the Paragon Market free, like an aura or a costume piece, because that's roughly what the math equates to. I'd be happy with that, especially if they shelled out something new for it.

And the people who spent more than $15 this month for extras still got exactly what they paid for.

If you took your car in to have it's oil changed and they were 1mL short from giving you a full oil pan, would you demand they do the entire thing again for free? No. You ask them to top it off, and they'd probably do it for free.
Another example: If you buy a sack of oranges from a fruit stand and pay for 10 oranges but notice upon opening it that there are nine, are you seriously going to go back to the guy and demand not only the tenth orange but another ten?
If you do I'm very sorry for anyone you do business with.

We use dollars because that is the currency you paid in. If any compensation were to occur it would have to be at least equal to the fair market value of what you lost. Thats just the way it works.

^This. And doesn't the EULA basically state that you won't get any money back for necessary maintenance? They're physically moving the servers today. That takes time, and obviously something unexpected happened in that process. You are entitled to nothing.

Easier fix; read the EULA. It isn't cool that the servers are down, but we all agreed to suffer through such downtime without being compensated for it. They owe us nothing for it.
If you want to complain, fine. I don't like it either; sucks that I can't play while I have the time to do so.
But if you want to be compensated, think about what you're really asking for; the company is losing money by paying for repairs as we speak, and losing money in the form of customers not buying any Paragon Points during the outages. Now you want them to compensate you by giving up items intended to bring them revenue, despite agreeing to a EULA in which you gave them permission to take the servers down whenever they need to without being compensated for it.

Don't get it twisted. I don't think any compensation outside of an extra day or two double exp is necessary (due to ALL the extra downtime, not just today). I find the request for any $ or PPs to be a poor idea.
I'd like my account credited the lost time, so that if my subscription were to end on the 13th it would now end on the 14th. Other MMO's do it.

The devs have shown in the past that they go out of their way to make up for any downtime or at least do something in appreciation for us putting up with problems. (Extra Invasions, the Ski Chalet, etc) I doubt they'll stop now. But demanding will get someone Jack-all, Especially demanding game-time or credit.

So just because they put some leagaleze, they can bring the servers down for oh say the whole month and they just keep your $15 bucks? So what is an acceptable amount of not being able to access your account per month?

Most of those complaining are looking for good customer service. Hiding behind a EULA is a poor business practice in this case.

If a bank is being robbed, and I can't gain access to a teller, is that the bank's fault? Do they owe me something for the inconvenience? No, they certainly do not. Even if I pay them a monthly fee for access to the tellers.
Is this inconvenient? Yes, it is. Does NCSoft owe any of us anything? No. If they did give us something, would it be nice? Sure! But I don't expect them to do anything because of an unexpected problem. Anybody who thought that the transition to Freedom could be done without needing some significant upgrades to the hardware was kidding themselves.

And in addition to physically moving servers, they dropped us an Issue and are releasing an all new system within a system (F2P and Premium accounts) which are HUGE and came out strangely smoothly, despite the downtime.
Also? Two days. Really. The OP is arguing about two days? And that's a giant inconvenience? Holy ...wow. The world does not work like perfectly maintained and oiled clockwork. There's a reason Murphy's Law exists. Because unexpected things happen all the time.
