Credit for all the downtime

Well, they *Have* been fairly clear (as far as simple, overall statements - because do you REALLY want technical details on server upgrades? I'm pretty sure they'd make most people fall asleep for eight to twelve hours by page 3...) on what they're doing. Hardware upgrades/replacement. Today involved physically *moving* the servers, among other things.

Now, the one gripe I have seen that I *will* agree with is that they need all this in one place - not a bit here, a bit on Twitter, a bit on Facebook and a bit on Ustream.

It's ridiculous to expect compen...

We should totally get compensation for this downtime! It's highly inconvenient! Not only that it killed my pet turtle! This injustice demands Street Justice!

So some ppl have been saying that it's not a good idea for game companies to start compensating players for down time. There are a few major games that do it already, however.

One company pushes back subscriptions with delays exceeding expected times. So if there are 2 days of really unplayable servers, or a day of unplanned maintenance, they will add that time onto everyone's subscription. (I've had this happen to me in one of their games recently)

No compensation is owed nor should it be expected. Silly people.

Well! Same thing happened when I tried to bring "undies on the outside" to Paragon City.

Am I the only one that read the title and thought the OP was going to be admitting he was responsible for the servers being down?

You would find this extremely frustrating as well.
With another 8 hours tomorrow, I get those feelings.

Time for Paragon to figure something out, especially for the Euro players.

I didn't, but that's all I see now.

Your contention is a slap in the face.

I understand the frustration of being unable to play, because I'm practically in the same boat, but misplaced feelings do not compare.

A contract doesn't make their feelings misplaced.
The way they feel is completely valid.

There's two different things going on here...

frustrated that you can't play

frustrated that you can't play and wanting something out of it and are not entitled to <- misplaced feelings

They can feel whatever they like, but it doesn't mean they are entitled to compensation because they couldn't play a game for a few hours.

For some people it's not a few hours. For some people as everyone is blissfully ignoring this is most if not all of their playing time.

Some people can only play once or twice a week or month.

NCSoft is NOT responsible for people's real life obligations or issues.

And by the way, those 'people' you're referring to? Welcome to my life the majority of the time. Please stop talking about me, I can speak for myself.

As noted in another thread, I've posted a 'frustration' post as this week has hit 'oceanics' (Aus/NZ and associated time zones) hard. Yesterday, it was 6:30pm for 12 hours and tonight it's 8:30pm for 8 hours (iirc). When I work 9-5 and commute home and cook dinner and acknowledge my spouse, this effectively nullifies my ability to play the game for all but two hours in two days.

I'm not after a hand-out, or compensation of any sort (I know I'm not going to get it, so why stress about it?), but my feelings of frustration are valid to me, and my US gaming buddy who gets up early in the morning to team with me (and sometimes others). I don't need others to validate my feelings, and I don't expect the devs to acknowledge the impact on me (and perhaps other in my time zone), as they have to do the 'best for all', which means we get shafted. I accept this reality, but it doesn't make my frustration any less valid or intense (to me).

No I will talk about you all I want!

And no they aren't responsible for it except when people plan around an already established set of rules and they continually change those parameters egregiously for a solid month. Please don't quote the lame EULA 'we can shut down whenever we want' thing either.

I'm merely stating this is how people feel and they're not as out of line as some people are trying to imply. At all even. They paid for a service. They feel that service has faltered. As is frequently the case they want recompense. It's actually all perfectly normal and understandable but forumites have to to turn it into a huge drama.

I'm pretty sure over half of you are only having the argument for giggles too which is just shameful.

I wonder where those established set of rules, which are subject to change, come from.

The only ones who are turning this into drama are those who can't keep there emotions in check. Just to make it clear, so somebody doesn't try to twist my words. I'm talking about both NA and EU players.

it says right there in the EULA that you are not allowed to be disappointed about any extended downtime or lack of ability to play the game so that people who don't pay to play the game can play the game.

I can't believe you didn't read that part.
