Who's the Jerk...
What's in a name, anyway? If it's your global name then I can see wanting to lock it down fast as possible on any server much less Exalted. In any case, until the come up with a new system it's first come first served. Unless you can get some serious evidence of name griefage they are likely to not strip them of the name.
If someone has a name that you want, just use /getglobalname followed by the name you seek and see who has it then send them a polite in game email/private message and ask them for it. If they politely decline, then that's that. If they are rude about it or charge in game funds or especially RL funds, then you might be able to speak to support. Not everyone took a name to spite someone, not everyone is a "name griefer" As to global names, it would be nice if our global names were automatically reserved for us to use on all servers. For example: someone's global is "King of Hearts", that means the toon name King of Hearts is reserved for them and only them to use on the servers if they choose to use it as a toon name. If they don't it stays in reserve status so no one can claim it. If the person changes their global name, then they lose reserve status for King of Hearts on all servers and whatever they change to such as King of Diamonds becomes reserved for them on all servers. If they made a toon with the name King of Hearts they still keep the name, but lose reserve status on it for any server that they didn't make the name on. Problem with this is that the game has been around for so long that if they decide to make global names reserved on all servers, some other people may already have toons with that name, so what to do? Let them keep the name or should the support staff run a script that puts a number one at the end of their name and issue them a free rename token for that toon? Some people may not like their name being stripped from them just because it isn't their global name. |

Not to mention the greifing that would insue, as someone continues to change their global name to force others to rename all their characters.

In any event, can't please everyone. No matter what they do, or invariably NOT do, someone is going to feel burned somehow.
I suppose they could change it so that your global name cannot be changed unless it is reported as being offensive or of course trademark infringement.
just be glad i couldn't log in for most of this week, ya got lucky to take that one

Now if they take the name, and then the person who think they should have the name send them a tell, they're more than in their right to say "Sure pay me 10billion influence" and that isn't harassing.
So I guess the question will be, will they be smart enough to do that?

If they just took the name so others couldn't use it, and don't harass anyone about it, then, they're not harassing, and nothing can be done about it.

I wondered about that when I started to read it. I know I recognized the joke even without the title.

@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.
You mean like what NT described?....
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that griefing is an actionable offense. It could easily be proven that the person(s) that did this were targeting specific "well known" and "high profile" names. If their accounts are full of such names, that is proof of griefing, and it should be addressed by the GMs/Devs. . |
Disagreed. Perhaps they just always liked those names they saw. And had a chance to get them. Maybe not very original, but hardly griefing. (unless they sent tell as mentioned with neener neeners)
Believe it or not, no one, including "high profile" and "well known" people, again no one....owns the rights to their coh character names.
Again, not very imaginative, but not griefing....at least not proof of it....as stated above. (unless they perform the ole neener, neener, neener)
Just my opinion.
P.S. if someone took all my names for Exhalted, I could care less. Will never play there. I may lapse to free from time to time...want my characters all available. (without paying for server transfers.)

I lost one of my global names when the servers merged. It was the name of my first level 50 character, a name I had been using as global for years, that actual people knew me by, and which I had on all four EU servers. Then we merged and I lost it to an American player, because they got priority on global names simply by virtue of playing on the American servers. And yes, I'm still sore about that. By your suggestion I would then lose all the remaining versions of that character that I still have! How would that be fair at all?
But I got the name on Exalted, so at least there's a bright spot for me there.

The person who had mine was very nice and released it for me yesterday without any issues at all after a brief conversation (a time-lagged one because we were never on at the same times). So now I have Carnifax on Exalted.
Thank you again Sir or Madam. Tis greatly appreciated.

What's really odd is when I try to use /getglobalname to find out who has it, it never returns the correct name with the global.

Well if you're on (and bearing in mind how terribad we are at actually being on at the same time) I'm currently playing a Traps/Beam defender on Exalted if ye fancy a get together. Also playing Carnifax as an Illusion/Time but I may reroll, Time annoys me at the mo
