Backpack pieces, akin to Rocket Boots, that fire up when flying/hover.

Also, I imagine that they are waiting for the full release of the Paragon Store and will drop the boom with such things.

Honestly, while I like the idea of the rocket/hoverboard thing and can appreciate the work that went into making the model and getting the functionality of the power down, I would have liked to have seen something a bit more flexible as far as a theme. A flying energy disk or elipse could have a tech, magic, or meta origin. If we could customize the tint of it, even better.

Eventually though, what I'd like to see are 'vehicle' toggle powers that essentially transform your character model and give you a new set of powers/attacks that you can use in that form. This could function in a similar fashion to the Kheldan Nova form, but with unslottable attacks, and perhaps on a longer recharge. Possibilites could include an armored motorcycle (perhaps something like a cross between a Light Cycle and the Batpod), or small aircraft like the Sky Raider Skiffs or the Longbow Chasers.

This right here! I sure want to use that Rocket Board. I'm fine with it disabling my attacks, but if it cuts off all my toggles every time I summon it I'll probably just stick to Ninja Run (interpretation: my money won't be spent on it)

Yeah, if there is no customization with the rocket board, it goes form something I was excited about to something I won't be getting.

I do not offer that as snarky negativity, just as (hopefully helpful) feedback!
I think it is great and I am sure plenty of people will use it as is, but character themes, conceptually and visually, are paramount to me (which is why this game is so great for me).

Truth be told, I think you guys are on the edge of a revolutionary amount of options, if you can just get Pool Power Customization worked out. Path Auras are really cool, and with a few tricks I'm nearly certain our artists have in their stable, Players can get a lot of the Travel options they've always been clamoring for.

Here are some examples:

Digging- I've seen the screens of the Seismic Path aura from SDCC. Major props to TR's husband on that. If they made a version of the aura that stopped rendering the character when in motion, it would be damn near good enough for most people. Maybe add some Rocky Crumbles and some transition animations when starting and stopping and jumping, but I think it's there.

Rolling/Bouncing- we have transparent bubbles of all sorts ingame. Path auras that create different nontransparent objects (Giant Red Rubber Ball!) would be a neat way to cheat some of the vehicle limitations.

Like I said, we're on the edge of it. Key thing is being able to turn off the things we don't want, and turn on the things we do.

Just a quick word of caution: They tried Ice Slides in that other Heroes Online game. The problem with it was to make the "slides" they had to create 3D geometry follow the player around. And that led to griefing, or at least the concern, where players with Ice Slide could block off parts of the game, trap other players, prevent access to contacts and trainers, etc.

So the other game took out Ice Slides. Now they just have an Ice Rock you glide around on. Not as cool.

I think you might be able to make Ice Slides if the extra geometry was intangible or didn't affect player or pet pathing in any way. People could just run through it. There'll be a little issue with obscuring NPCs and what not, but as long as you can still click on the target then there won't be any incentive to grief, and I doubt any one will bother to try.

I have one character in particular that, while a motorcycle travel power would work well, what she *particularly* wants is the ability to arrive in *exactly* the over-the-top motorcycle laydown that the Thugs bruiser summoning uses. I'd be OK even if it were an emote. Dreaming further, I would pay respectable amounts of real money for a Shield Charge-like "temp" power using that animation, or for a Mission Teleporter-like power using it.

(She's a Dual Pistols / Energy Manipulation Blaster, to represent an 80's style Hong Kong crazy guns & martial arts action movie star.)

Ok, real quick, for DN's sake and ours, is it ok if I add a poll to this thread?

Simple question, really, with two parts.

1- How many here would like to see Rocket Board as a Power Pool with 5 powers, befitting a Travel Power Pool?

2- How many here would prefer the board to be customizable, ie, coloration and form?


(Ok, three parts, I lied.)
3- How many here would prefer that Rocket Board didn't disallow attacks and detoggle you, or would you be happy enough to keep the toggles?

Sorry Noble Savage, if I'm hijacking the thread I apologize, but it seems we need to have these questions answered, and answered clearly. They seem to keep coming up over and over.

Have at. For my part:

Q1 - YES. I've already mentioned that a board-blade melee attack and rocket / energy beam ranged attack would be cool as hell, but it bears repeating one last time.

Q2 - YES. Coloration big YES, form also, I love some or all of the ideas mentioned upthread so far. If just coloration, that's fine, as long as it's two colors for both board and propulsion.

Q3 - Prefer ability to attack but will settle for keeping toggles. REALLY PREFER to be able to attack from the board though.

Would a motorcycle pseudo-superspeed power be reasonable to achieve? I dunno if the assets which exist for the thugs summon make it a lower hanging fruit or not.

*ahem* Sorry. Old desire manifesting itself in a kneejerk reaction. That aside...

I'd love to see an "Elemental" slide option. Water, Ice, Fire, Dark, Earth (almost like making an earth wave maybe?) Electricity, an all purpose "Energy" one, and maybe a few more esoteric ones like a Cloud, Rainbow, and/or a Flying Carpet slide.

All of them would use the same animation, the difference would lay in the 'slide' effect they're using.

And yes, I'd like those before other platforms or even mounts (unless the tech for mounts would allow for a Motorcycle as a Super Speed animation option...)

Aside from Cryptic having it in Champions, Disney/Pixar already did it as well with Frozone in the Incredibles. He had a small disc that helped him slide around on whatever path he created. I would think with Disney's free use precedent (I haven't noticed any "ice slide concept used by permission from Marvel/Universal Studios" in the credits) there isn't any "IP" with ice slide.

So there's the "nothing" from Marvel, the "disc" from Disney, and ..."some awkward looking board of ice" from Cryptic. Paragon Studios could do something like a snowboard and the purple run/slide stance with a blue snow trail and get something quick. Though I'm sure the art team can do better than my hacky idea.

3 is highly unlikely (very highly unlikely) - allowing attacks would require a new animation for every power in the game, much as flight did when they made the game. It's just not practical to re-animate every power in the game. Even an "only effects self" style change would still mean new animations, as you can still activate powers.

So while it would be very cool to swoop in on a rocket board attacking, it's not happening anytime soon - and probably just plain isn't happening. Because of that, it's also unlikely that Rocketboard (or other vehicular powers) will become another travel pool, or an option to customize existing travel pools.

a few thoughts here.

First; do NOT make this a temp power that limits regular game play (attacks, toggles, etc)

second; try to make the power akin to either sprint powers or costume code powers as both only change the aesthetics and NOT game play. you already have the tech in place or at least most of it with sprints, they emit a path aura already and there is the prestige power slide which has the animation of sliding INCLUDING all the animations of attacks while sliding. the only thing you would need to work out is the placement of the object to be surfing on and the vertical movement.

third; by using the costume code powers you can simply turn on and off vehicles and to prevent major issues of attacking while on/in a vehicle you could simply have the power toggle off automatically when an attack is clicked (though I would disregard toggle auras since most players like to keep those on).

forth; given the amount of prestige sprints and more travel powers such as the rocket board and what ever else you decide to make I would suggest building in some sort of drop down menu in the enhancements slotting screen so we don't have this ridiculously long list of temp travel powers. this would be the perfect time to do so given the redesign of the UI for character creation.

bottom line, if the new travel options detoggle powers or turn off attacks then I will NOT be purchasing it and I know I am not be the only one with this mind set. that's just my two cents on this topic.

First thing I'd want is FIXED wings... or (tech) wings that retract into a backpack, but are fixed in flight... or Goldbricker/Sky Raider flight packs... Flapping Tech wings bugs the hijeebees out of me.

After that, I want helicopter hats/beanies. Just cause you asked.

Then after that flying platforms, mounts, and slides. But fixed wings and beanies first.

An ice slide is definitely the Top Request for me. Others I'm "dying" to see:
  • Fixed wing flight i.e. you are gliding with wings rather than flapping.
  • Permanently present rocket packs that activate when "Fly" is engaged (like Rocket Boots)
  • A myriad of "surfing" flight options including (but not limited to) a boulder/concrete slab or a simple metal disk. I had some other ideas (fire, cloud) but those may be solved with current/upcoming path auras.

Well, that seems to me to be a great deal of wasted potential. A Rocket Board powerset perhaps?

And yes, I do feel strongly about this. I wanted Dual Pistols since day one, give or take, that I've been playing and the set does NOT dissapoint me in any way. Rocket Boards are something I never thought I'd see but thought would be pretty cool if treated seriously enough.

So now they're on the way, and it sounds to me like all it will be is yet another throw-away, one-off power with a great deal of potential that will forever remain untapped because everyone has an excuse for not tapping it. There is a great deal of awesome to be had from this, and it doesn't sound to me that it will be. I'll have it on one or two characters but I won't like it as much as if it had been treated, to my eye, properly.

Am I the final arbiter on this? No. Will I pick it up? Hell yes. Will it forever be as disappointing as it is cool? Yes. Is that preventable, or could that be changed in the future? Yes.

Will it? No. Because we have people making excuses for it before it's even released... Sorry for my strong feelings on this but if something won't be done to it's fullest potential, why do it at all?
