Drops are making me sad!

I've been playing since launch and have a handful of 50s. I've gotten a handful of purples. A literal handful, across all my characters, I do not think I've seen more than 5 or perhaps 6 drop.

Then last week, playing my partner's fire brute, my fire corruptor and my husband's ice blaster, we all got multiple purples. None of us are 50 - the brute is 47 - and we had the number of players tweaked up to huge masses of mobs, and we are all AOE specced. I got three, the brute got 2 and my husband got 2, over 1 week of playing that trio two or three times that week. It was pretty crazy.

TL;DR: lol rng

The playerbase has "accumulated no facts," they've accumulated a bunch of unverifiable hearsay which is not one whit more substantiated than my strong suspicion that the RNG is influenced by several if not many qualifiers, and its "random" after that, maybe. Pffft. Please.

By the way thanks for proving my above quote: you just said I was wrong because... you said I was, which is SOP for out here

Except that we are not "Saying you are wrong because you are wrong," as you imply. We are saying "This is inaccurate because we have all this evidence that proves contrary."

An argument of self-knowing is a far cry from an argument based on data.

Oh, and please point out where I said you were wrong. I simply elaborated on your quote, which didn't seem to have much bearing on the direction of the thread.

Update.

If someone thought I was trolling, I wasn't. I was actually frustrated based on my mains never getting anything.

Then out of the blue "Today" running an ITF, my level 41 Dom got a purple on a level 50 team.

Still nothing ever on my Emp/Psi or Grav/FF, but Ill take it where I can.
(Since it's literally been 6 months since I got anything)

Sure it was for pets, but at least it was nice to see a drop for a change.

But I definately was not trolling. If I was, I would not have responded back or responded with some form of snarkyness.

I wouldn't worry. The "trolling" comments were directed not at you, but at another poster spreading misinformation.

No, no, no. The trolling comments were directed at someone else - and all the forum regulars know exactly who.

If you did not believe I was wrong, you would not have attempted to change my quote into the exact opposite of the original. Unless, of course, you are just looking to start trouble for no reason - which would be par for the course in these forums.

You are more than smart enough to understand that one can say "you are wrong" without actually typing the words "you are wrong." Attempting to fire semantic bullets in this fashion is good exercise for you, but isn't getting you anywhere.

There is no evidence except anecdotal player-collected evidence on this issue. It has been proven many times over that anecdotal evidence is worth nothing whatsoever on these forums. If I offered you anecdotal evidence as proof of anything in CoX you would laugh at me. Well, ditto.

Forumite A: Theory!

Forumite B: I don't seem to be seeing that in the game, sorry 'bout that. Hmm...

Forumite A: Haha! You DO seem to be seeing that in the game, FIXT! By the way Im not telling you you're wrong there, just presenting evidence otherwise.

Righto.

My original comment still stands.

And a large collection of anecdotal evidence is worth just as much as one lone person spouting off nonsense? That is what you're saying.

I get tons of purple rewards on trials, but almost never a purple recipe when running TFs. I guess it's random, but sometimes it feels like characters are randomly dropped into pool tiers where some get better drops, while others worse.

A large collection of anecdotal nonsense [dare I shout "FIXT!!"] is worth not one whit more than any one person's anecdotal statement. You don't accept my prior statement. I don't accept a mountain of invisible, hearsay nonsense that you don't even have a link to.

Sorry.

The key to getting purples is killing lots of mobs, so running solo, with bosses on, at +0x8 is the best methodology. ( you can do -1x8 for speed, but then you lose out on level 50 orange recipes )

The comment about Tankers getting all the drops.... definitely deserves a facepalm. I dont think my INV/SS has ever gotten a purple drop.
Just to show that random is very random, my Inv/SS has gotten several. Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, in 30-60 minutes of lazily beating up level 50s in the Portal Corp. parking lot and adjacent area, looking for a few random shards to finish off my T4 Alpha, I got 2, an Unbreakable Constraint and an Armageddon. I broke off from that and joined a team for a LGTF/ITF double-header, figuring I could get enough shards there to finish it up, which I did with breaking down the component from the LGTF, and got another as we were going up lag valley in mission 4 of the ITF. That one was a Fortunata Hypnosis, which is certainly not as useful/valuable as the 2 that I had gotten solo earlier.

This one, like all 3 of my characters that I have taken through the Incarnate Trials, has gotten a few on those, too. With the way that those trials work, I'd suspect that purple recipes are a lot more rare for the individual members of the league (average size being about 16) than they are even on a full team doing a TF.

Sorry.
If the evidence is "I saw this a few days ago" or "I go that one time" it is an anecdotal and has little to no value. If the evidence is "I've got the log here for 15k x over x time" it is measured proof and can be recreated by anyone who wants, therefore it is not anecdotal.

Also, random number generator is random.

About a year or so ago some players knew something wasn't right with the purple drops. Of course the dev team said nothing was wrong and the players that usually back the devs blindly agreed. Some of us collected hundreds of hours of game logs for analysis which were complied and given to the devs. Lo and behold they finally admitted there was an issue with purple drops.

There is nothing anecdotal about that, just cold hard facts gathered by the playerbase then confirmed by the devs.

Edited: Okay it was more than a little over a year ago it was back in late 2009 when the new mission difficulty settings were introduced

QFT
/thread.

I see folks still like to bury their head in the sand and pretend there's some magic to how one gets drops. Luckily folks who have experience can show how it works and stop the idiotic spread of misinformation.

Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)

im pretty sure since Purps were introduced into the game, I have recieved between 5-10. Im think 6 but I cant be sure.

Now VR incarnate salvage? Woohoo! if i could sell these id be a rich ****!

For the OP, if you want purples just for selling them for inf, then buying Luck of the Gambler: Recharge Speed with Alignment Merits is a more certain way. Can get about 100 to 200 million every 4 days. Just run tip missions at the maximum difficulty you can handle. If you can handle +0/x8, then go for it, but +0/x4 would increase your chances as well. There are other methods to generate inf.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

I have found in the past that complaining about not getting a purple in ages usually results in me getting a purple drop fairly soon after.

In an effort to test my theory...

I haven't had a purple drop in ages and have never received one whilst on a trial. In fact the last time I got a purple drop was before trials existed!

*looks forward to getting one or two purples during next play session...*

You've got a partner and a husband? Lucky girl

Hopefully resident has been driven off by people with a clue. I've had purples while afk on the phone nowhere near the badguys so it definitely can happen. A friend on a level 1 (SKd to 49) who was staying out the way got a purple as his first IO drop.

I'm sad that I missed this thread the first time around.

It had some of the wrongest wrong wrongness that wrongness had ever wrongly wronged. Hilarious.

Any serious purpler, regardless of AT, will be getting most them from the market. Crafting and selling IO drops, I can generate a couple billion in just a few weeks. Couple weeks ago I decided I wanted to get Mu Ball Lightning (Targeted AoE) and I wanted a 5-piece Ragnarok set in it. Did I start farming for that set? Nope, I used a few billion I'd earned in a few weeks and instantly bought a full set.

btw, I'm not a serious marketeer nor do I run 5 tips every day for A-Merits. I spend just few minutes at the market each play session, I just craft and sell IOs that I've randomly gotten during normal play and that are going for over a million, and the Inf flows in. Gravy.

I take it you're not a 'serious purpler' then
