It kinda sounds like something Lady Gaga would sing about herself.
Goodbye, I guess.

Might be kinda fun if Gaga herself actually came out on stage to perform this alongside Al during one of his concerts. Supposedly she got a huge kick out of the song when she finally got to hear it.
This one reminds me of "Smells Like Nirvana," in a way...

I still find it funny she bothered to be "against" Weird Al redoing one of her songs in the first place. She's such a silly little twit in the first place that the idea that she was "too good" to be subjected to Weird Al's treatment struck me as totally laughable. For her sake I hope she was never seriously against this and just pretended to be as a joke...

I would think it'd be an honor to be parodied by Weird Al.

Actually, if it was blocked by Gaga or her rep and still released to the public...I'd be suing that guy, both from Weird Al's and Gaga's camp as that type of **** can mess up Weird Al's reputation of being respectful and always seeking out the original performer's authorization which has more or less allowed him to have access to more songs and not be considered in a bad light or get sued.
rapper chammillionaire also loved when al did "white and nerdy" and put it up on his site. I'd think any musician that grew up with weird al would appreciate what him parodying you means. "the key of awesome" also has done some clever gaga parodies.

Yeah that's what I've heard a few people say, it's the musical equivilent of being on the Simpsons, you know you're big if Weird Al has parodied one of your songs. From what I've heard Weird Al is one of the nicest people in the business.
Yeah the song does sound like something Lady Gaga would actually say, "it's an act, a performance and it gets me money, so why should I care what you thinK?"
Getting 'permission' or 'authorization' for a parody performance is a nicety, not a legal requirement.
Parody is protected First Amendment speech which the Supreme Court has protected over and over again.
Performing someone else's musical work doesn't require permission. You just do it and send the author a mechanical reprint fee (last I checked it was 8 cents a copy). Of course, if you get permission, the author can waive the fee, which is the best reason to get 'authorization' in the first place.
Putting it up on YouTube is what's illegal without permission. Who's going to pay the 8 cents mechanical license fee each time it is viewed?

Reminds me of Coolio and Amish Paradise...
I would think it'd be an honor to be parodied by Weird Al. |
Something similar happened with his parody of James Blunt's "You're Beautiful", in that Blunt loved the idea and said go ahead, but Blunt's record company leaned on Weird Al's to make them take it off the album (which just led to him releasing it for free instead...) because they apparently didn't want him to be seen as a "one hit wonder".

Weird Al impersonating Lady Gaga Impersonating Madonna..?
I don't think Lady Gaga herself ever objected, it was her agent, acting on his own. Similarly, the Coolio problem was caused also by an agent acting on their own without consulting the artist (though in the opposite direction).

According to the comments it wasn't Gaga that originally opposed it, but her rep/agent. Once she heard it she thought it was great and gave approval...the agent got a ripping.
