One almost thinks the devs did this on purpose just for the reference.
"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill

STEPS TO BEING AN INCARNATE:
1) Do the trials;
2) ?????????;
3) Profit.
Complaining that you're being asked to group in a MMORPG is not what's behind ???????.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
I don't care HOW you play, if it really costs that much to get the next one, that is MORONIC! No matter how fan-boy you are, that is moronic!
Now, if doing a TF/SF nets you double the amount of shards that drop now, then maybe. But DANG!
And the next one BETTER be Demi-God like in the power it gives you!

61866 - A Series of Unfortunate Kidnappings - More than a coincidence?
2260 - The Burning of Hearts - A green-eyed monster holds the match.
379248 - The Spider Without Fangs - NEW - Some lessons learned (more or less.)
So, I'm not actually acutely aware of everything that goes on in this forum. Can you supply a link, or something?

Starcloud really blew the math on this one.

This is all out of context. The Incarnate Threads drop like Shards do when in an Incarnate Trial. Additionally, you earn Incarnate XP (which is how you unlock subsequent incarnate slots)
The Shard to Thread conversion is not the only way (or even the preferred way) to acquire Threads. The new Trials are.
Shards are only for Alpha. Threads are for Judgement, Lore, Destiny and Interface.

For reference, very rare alpha requires 488 shards if you refuse to ever team. So it is more, but that's intentional.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

To me, doing TFs is the equivalent of doing radio missions (which I've stopped doing entirely now that jet packs can be bought, and with Ninja Run I don't often need them anyway). Almost everyone, it seems, wants to speed through TFs for the rewards. I'm not allowed time to find out what's going on, and I'm not going to slow down a team I've joined because what makes the game enjoyable for me is different for them, so a TF is just a series of mostly unconnected "go beat up this group" missions. I've done most of the TFs in the game at this point and I could not tell you what a single one of them was about.
For me, if I'm playing solely to gain rewards, there is no point to the game. Whether I gain the ingredients solo or on TFs, becoming an incarnate is no different than farming. If I wanted to grind for gear, there are many other MMOs I'd enjoy playing. I wouldn't even care about it here if it were being treated as every other niche, and not the focus, and only real substance, of every new issue.
@Doctor Gemini
Arc #271637 - Welcome to M.A.G.I. - An alternative first story arc for magic origin heroes. At Hero Registration you heard the jokes about Azuria always losing things. When she loses the entire M.A.G.I. vault, you are chosen to find it.
@Doc Gemini: So why not form your own team and pace yourselves through the TF/SF? You are missing out on some interesting stories (some of them at least... others are plain boring). Just advertise you're doing a slow run.
On topic: What Master Zaprobo said, to be honest. From the sneak peak last night, EU side, I went from 0% to 30% experience earned to unlock my Interface slot by doing 1 and a half Lambda Sector trial. I also had Incarnate Thread drops pretty much the same way as Shard drops on doing TF/SF. Considering you can only work on one slot at a time by doing the appropriate Inc Trial, it doesn't seem harder than unlocking the Alpha slot and slotting it up. But that's just my opinion, yours may vary.

Personally i find it totally fair *shrugs* After experiencing the trial last night all i can say is that the rate you get the xp/threads is quite high.
For people that dont like to team, the first part of the trial [which is basically just defeat easy mobs on the outside of the trial which is VERY VERY easy] can get you 10-15% along. Think people are forgetting that while the number is high, it is purely there to stop people storming through the system. How many people do you know that say they have X amount of shards already?
They've given people the option for the people that purely like to solo and we all knew the conversion rate would be high because otherwise why would people want to do the trial which is very difficult when a shard farm can get you it much easier. Plus the trial is very short so timeframe for people cant be an issue i see.
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
It is very relevant to people who don't like raids. It demonstrates a "If you don't like the raids, you should do the raids, because we really want you to like the raids" approach on the devs' part that is unprecedented in this game and worrying for its future direction.

Or, you know, just don't do the raids. Yes, you'll miss out on content and it'll take you longer to get the stuff that you want, but the same could be said for pretty much *any* aspect of the game - hell, a lot of MMOs wouldn't give you the alternative route to getting the Incarnate slots & powers.

Hell some of the badges and accolades you have to do specific arcs and take down specific EB level nasties to get them.
^This basically. The exact same principle works for Hami-Os (you can get them relatively quickly running the relevant TFs / Raid or you can grind Inf and/or a-merits to earn them), PvP IOs, Rare Recipes in general and a lot of the temp powers like Shivians and Nukes.

Just saying, accolades used to be considered hardcore. They haven't been for a long, long time.

1) Start a team;
2) Get on a 'shard run' or 'kill most' TF where people are killing most of the mobs for shards. Plenty of time to read the contact info.
3) Have Paragonwiki up in window when you do it. I used to do that for TFs I wasn't the leader so I could get the parts of the story told only to the leader.

So far.
And it looks to be exactly like this for at least the next 6 months, at the pace this team is working.
Apparently, creating task forces is hard and consumes the time of the entire development team.
:/
I know that War Witch said that after incarnates, they would focus on content.
I just didn't realize that meant they'd be skipping regular content until 'after incarnates', and that 'after incarnates' would be approximately when the mayan calendar kills us all.
Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.
WTF? That's not "slower solo" progress that's "glacial don't even bother soloing come and play our raid setups we put so much time into making them" progress.
